Chapter 89 - Chapter 89 — Preparing for the Unseen

The sun had barely risen, casting pale light over Shadowfang territory. The ridge where Nyra and Kael had faced the shadow leader the previous night was now quiet, but tension lingered like a heavy fog.

Nyra stood in the central clearing, addressing the assembled pack. Silver energy flickered faintly around her, a subtle reminder of the Blood Moon's power.

"Shadowfang," she began, voice strong and unwavering, "we have faced the northern packs, and we have survived. But now… a greater force approaches — one born from the First Blood Moon itself. This is not a battle we can fight recklessly. We must train, prepare, and act with precision."

Kael stepped beside her, golden energy flaring. "The shadow leader is only one of many. If we do not understand it, we cannot protect our pack. Every warrior, scout, and elder has a role to play. We sharpen our claws, strengthen our skills, and prepare our minds for what is coming."

Fenrir approached, his red eyes scanning the horizon. "We've traced unusual movements in the northern forests. Shadows, corruption, unnatural energy flows… They are gathering. We need intelligence if we are to strike preemptively."

Nyra nodded. "Then we will send a small team to scout. Find their source, and learn their strengths. I will lead it — alongside Kael and a select few warriors."

By dusk, the reconnaissance team was ready. Nyra, Kael, Fenrir, and a handful of Shadowfang's elite warriors moved silently through the northern forests. The trees were twisted, scarred by ancient energy, and the air seemed heavy with malevolence.

"Stay alert," Nyra whispered. "This is not like fighting packs. These shadows are intelligent, adaptive… and dangerous."

Kael's golden eyes glowed faintly, scanning every shadow. "We move carefully, strike decisively, and return with knowledge. No unnecessary risks."

The forest ahead shimmered unnaturally. Shadows darted between trees, faster than any wolf could run, leaving traces of black energy that seemed to pulse like a heartbeat.

Suddenly, the ground trembled, and from the darkness, smaller shadow creatures emerged — scouts of the shadow leader. They hissed and lunged, testing the team's defenses.

Nyra's silver chains lashed out, immobilizing the scouts, while Kael's Alpha flames struck the rest. Fenrir's warriors flanked, cutting off escape routes. The battle was short but intense, a clear reminder of the danger ahead.

After the fight, Nyra knelt, tracing the black energy residue with her fingertips. "They're feeding off the First Blood Moon's energy… and it's growing stronger. Whoever commands them… is preparing for something massive."

Kael's jaw tightened. "Then Shadowfang must be ready. We strengthen the pack, train harder, and uncover every secret before the storm hits."

Fenrir nodded. "Agreed. We will not be caught unprepared."

As night fell, the team returned to Shadowfang territory, their minds racing with the knowledge of what they had faced. The Blood Moon hung bright above, illuminating the pack's home with silver light.

Nyra's silver eyes scanned the horizon, thoughts heavy but determined. "This is only the beginning. Shadowfang will not falter. And we will meet the darkness head-on."
