Chapter 34 - Chapter 34 — The Breach

The morning mist had barely lifted when the first sounds of chaos rang through Shadowfang territory. Wolves were howling, a mixture of alarm and battle cries, echoing through the trees. Nyra's heart thudded violently — she knew immediately: the territory had been breached.

Kael's golden eyes were sharp as he sprinted toward the sounds, Nyra at his side. "Stay close!" he shouted. His Alpha presence radiated outward, steadying the pack, but Nyra could sense the tension simmering beneath him. Something about this attack felt… deliberate.

They arrived at the western ridge to find the breach. Trees had been torn down, claw marks gouged deep into the earth, and smoke rose from small fires set near the perimeter. The rogue pack from before had returned — but not alone. A darker presence moved among them, almost invisible, like shadows crawling over the forest floor.

Nyra's veins flared with silver light. The energy surged inside her, hot and raw, threatening to spill. "Kael… I can feel it. Someone else is here… something stronger."

Kael's jaw tightened. "Then we find it."

Before he could move, a spear of darkness shot through the air, narrowly missing him. A shriek echoed, chilling in its unnaturalness. The rogue pack faltered, unsure how to respond to the new force.

Nyra stepped forward, letting her powers manifest fully. Her hands glowed bright silver, forming ethereal wolf shapes that lunged toward the attackers. The rogue wolves screamed and scattered under the force of her magic, but the dark presence advanced with terrifying precision.

Kael leapt into battle beside her, claws flashing, wolf form partially emerging in controlled bursts. "Nyra, stay focused! Don't let it overwhelm you!"

Nyra's heart pounded, but she could feel Kael's steadying presence through their bond. Every attack they made was synchronized, their movements complementing each other like twin shadows beneath the rising Blood Moon.

Suddenly, the dark figure revealed itself fully. A massive wolf, larger than any Nyra had ever seen, cloaked in shadows that seemed to absorb the moonlight itself. Its eyes glowed red, malevolent, and intelligent — not a simple rogue wolf, but something far more dangerous.

Kael growled low, muscles tensing. "This isn't just a rogue pack. This is a hunter… and it's testing us."

The shadow wolf lunged. Nyra's silver energy collided with the creature, sparks of light and darkness erupting in a violent explosion. The ground shook beneath them, and Nyra was thrown back, landing hard against a tree. Pain shot through her body, but she forced herself up, summoning every ounce of her Blood Moon power.

Kael fought fiercely beside her, fangs sinking into the rogue wolves that tried to flank them. His wolf instincts roared, nearly taking full control, but Nyra's presence kept him anchored. Together, they moved as one, a perfect storm of Alpha strength and heir power.

The shadow wolf paused, circling Nyra, eyes locked on her glowing veins. It snarled — a sound that vibrated in her chest and rattled her vision.

"You're the heir," it growled in a voice that was almost human. "Your power belongs to us. Your pack… will fall."

Nyra's veins blazed. "No," she spat, voice echoing with authority. "This is my home! My pack! And I will defend it — with everything I am!"

Her silver energy surged outward in a massive wave, throwing the shadow wolf backward and scattering the rogue pack. Smoke and light mingled in the air, and for a moment, the forest was silent — save for Nyra's ragged breathing.

Kael staggered to her side, face smeared with blood from minor wounds, but his eyes burned with pride. "That's my mate," he whispered, his voice rough but full of emotion.

Nyra steadied herself, energy still pulsing, aware that the shadow wolf had retreated… but not vanished. The true threat had revealed itself tonight, and it had tasted the power of the Blood Moon heir.

Kael wrapped an arm around her waist, holding her close. "We survived this," he murmured. "But we'll need every ounce of strength for what's coming."

Nyra nodded, determination blazing in her eyes. The prophecy, the visions, the pack's doubts — nothing would break her. Not now. Not ever.

The Blood Moon hung high above, casting silver light over Shadowfang territory, signaling that the war was only beginning.
