Chapter 38 - Chapter 38: The Depressed Kakashi

Chapter 38: The Depressed Kakashi

Not long after the war began, the pressure on Konoha's side increased sharply.

Before long, even the students of the Ninja Academy were conscripted and sent to the battlefield.

By this point, even though Minamikawa Yuu was a Medical Ninja working under Konoha Hospital, he could not remain untouched by the tide of war. He accepted the draft and headed to the front lines.

He was not particularly surprised. He had expected this a long time ago.

The risks were still generally controllable.

After all, even on the front lines, as long as he remained medical personnel, he would basically stay within the camp. He would not need to rush out to fight and kill the enemy.

There was still a reasonable guarantee of safety.

It was not completely safe, of course, but it was far better than what ordinary ninja faced.

The day before he left, Yuu made a special trip to the orphanage to say goodbye to Nono.

Unfortunately, within the spacious orphanage, Nono was nowhere to be seen, and there was no telling where she had gone.

At first, Yuu was disappointed, but he quickly felt relieved.

The war between nations was only growing more intense. In this situation, as an Anbu elite, Nono would naturally not be idle. Her missions were probably heavy, and her movements uncertain.

More importantly, within Anbu, that elder known as the Darkness of Konoha, Danzō, was likely watching her closely right now.

Since Nono was missing, Yuu did not force the matter. He abandoned his original plan and chose to leave.

The next day, he arrived at the front lines between the Land of Fire and the Land of Earth, officially becoming a field doctor.

"Are you Minamikawa Yuu?"

Inside the field medical division, a middle aged man in a white robe stared at Yuu with a serious expression, his eyes filled with skepticism.

It was not discrimination. It was simply age.

Even with his age increasing, the eight year old Yuu still did not look reliable at first glance.

Even though the ninja world produced young geniuses, this kind of doubt was unavoidable.

"Yes. I am Minamikawa Yuu."

Facing the man's suspicion, Yuu only smiled, polite and gentle from start to finish. "Is there anything you need me to do?"

"Come with me first."

The man sighed. "The workload here is heavy."

At this point, regardless of Yuu's actual skill, they had to use him.

Once he stepped into the medical division, grief and pain filled the air.

Wounded soldiers lay everywhere, including many missing limbs. All of them had suffered severe injuries on the battlefield.

Yuu entered with a calm expression and immediately shifted into work mode.

For someone who had already spent time working in Konoha Hospital, this environment was not shocking. He had long since adapted.

While busy treating the wounded, he also carried out his own quiet maneuvers.

"Relax."

A wounded man lay in front of him, eyes wide open, trembling as if the pain might tear him apart.

Yuu's expression remained steady. He placed a hand on the man's body, and with a light stroke, he calmed him down with ease.

"What did you do?"

Someone nearby asked, curiosity written all over their face.

"A small trick I developed myself. It helps people fall asleep more easily."

Yuu spoke softly. "In a short time, he can forget the pain and enter a dream."

"As long as no one shakes him too violently, he won't wake up."

Hearing that, the eyes of those around him lit up.

A technique that could easily put someone to sleep had real value.

Not only could it ease the pain of the wounded by letting them sink into deep sleep, it also made it much easier for the medical staff. Patients who slept did not struggle, scream, or resist treatment.

Taking advantage of a moment when no one was paying attention, Yuu reached out and pressed a hand against the wounded man's chest.

As he did, the chakra inside the man's body began to drain slowly, absorbed into Yuu and stored within him.

Chakra Absorption Technique.

Purely in terms of Medical Ninjutsu, the Land of Ancestors might not have matched later generations, but in other fields, its development far surpassed them.

Especially in methods related to absorbing and storing chakra.

To nourish the God Tree and meet countless demands, the Land of Ancestors had advanced at an astonishing pace in these two areas.

As the Daimyo of the Land of Ancestors, Yuu naturally understood those methods deeply.

This Chakra Absorption Technique was something he had developed using the full power of the Land of Ancestors.

Using it, he could extract chakra from others without harming their health and store it as a reserve.

That reserve could then be used for Ninjutsu or for other needs.

Back in Konoha Hospital, the number of ninja was small, and most had very limited chakra. Yuu had not acted much there.

But now was different.

Here, wounded soldiers were everywhere, and most of them were ninja.

As long as he used his method to put them to sleep, he could absorb chakra openly from their bodies without being discovered at all.

For Yuu, it was the perfect environment.

Day after day, life repeated itself in the same brutal rhythm.

Until one day, a wounded soldier was delivered from the front lines, and Yuu's attention shifted.

That wounded soldier's name was Kakashi.

Inside a quiet tent, Kakashi jolted awake from a nightmare.

He stared at his hands in horror, as if he could still see blood stains clinging to his skin. Fear and unease flickered in his eyes.

"You're awake."

A voice came from the side.

Kakashi looked up and saw a young boy walking in from outside, staring at him calmly.

"I wasn't completely sure when I first saw your name earlier. Now it's confirmed."

"We meet again, Kakashi senpai."

"You are…"

Kakashi stared at Yuu for a long time before his memory caught up. "You're the one who fought Obito that day…"

He said it subconsciously, but the moment Obito's name left his mouth, he fell silent.

The memories surged up, one after another, and he could not calm down.

"I heard about what happened to Obito senpai and Rin senpai."

Yuu sighed softly. "That is how it is on the battlefield. Someone alive one moment can become a cold corpse the next."

"Maybe that really is the fate of a ninja."

His voice remained gentle. "But I think that if Obito senpai and the others were still alive, they probably wouldn't want you to grieve like this."

Yuu's tone was soft, like a light breeze passing through the tent, carrying a faint warmth with it.

At the bedside, Kakashi said nothing. He only sat there in silence.

In his left eye, a crimson Sharingan was quietly visible, and a strange chakra was diffusing from it.
