Chapter 41 - Chapter 41: The Clown’s Night

Firefighters were putting out the fire.

Hoses sprayed water over the remains of the destroyed club.

Ambulances came and went.

Paramedics treated the injured.

The police had cordoned off the entire area with yellow tape.

Red and blue lights illuminated the night.

Agent Reyes observed the destroyed building.

Smoke was still coming out of the broken windows.

"Damn clown… is he crazy?" she muttered.

Nearby, two police officers were talking to each other.

"Will this be considered terrorism?"

The other officer hesitated.

"I don't know…"

"But it's definitely a disaster."

Agent Carter walked over to Reyes.

He looked at the ruined club.

"Yeah… it's a disaster," Carter said. "It seems this clown is completely insane."

Reyes didn't respond.

Carter continued speaking.

"According to the witnesses, the clown appeared in the club's bathroom."

Reyes slightly turned her head to listen.

"Then he used balloons to kill someone."

Carter shook his head.

"They say the balloons swallowed a man… that they all fused into a bigger one… and then it exploded with the person inside."

He sighed.

"It's hard to believe."

Reyes kept looking at the scene.

Carter continued.

"And that's not even the strangest part."

"The witnesses also say the clown went into the bathroom… then came out wearing a white tuxedo stained with paint."

Reyes raised an eyebrow.

"A tuxedo?"

"Yeah."

Carter gestured with his hands.

"Then he said that outfit wasn't the right one."

"He went back into the bathroom…"

"And came out dressed like a rapper."

Reyes looked at him.

Carter imitated the clown's voice.

"Yo, yo… what do you think about the clown rapping something for you?"

Carter let out a sigh.

"This makes no sense."

"I'm sure that clown escaped from a psychiatric hospital."

Then he added seriously:

"Mentally, that guy is a psychopath."

Reyes had listened calmly to everything.

For her, none of that was the important part.

The clown had left something else.

A message.

The fireworks that exploded above the club had formed words in the sky.

Reyes finally spoke.

"The clown left a message."

Carter looked at her.

Reyes slowly repeated the words.

"These are only the preparations… for the real fireworks."

Carter frowned.

Reyes looked at him.

"Carter, I understand."

"But now we have to catch him."

She pointed at the scene.

"Today there were two attacks."

"One at the warehouse."

"And now this one at the club."

"The same clown in both."

Carter crossed his arms.

"Yeah…"

"That's clear."

But Reyes shook her head.

"I think this clown isn't alone."

Carter looked at her.

"Why do you say that?"

Reyes pointed at a map an officer was holding.

"The crime scenes are very far apart."

"The warehouse and the club."

"It's not easy to move between those two places in such a short time."

Reyes spoke firmly.

"I think there are more people involved."

Carter thought for a few seconds.

Then he slowly nodded.

"You're right."

He looked again at the destroyed club.

"There are more people involved."

But something was still bothering Reyes.

She looked up at the dark sky.

"But that message…"

Carter raised his gaze.

"For who was it?"

---

Somewhere else in the city…

Loren was at his house.

He was having fun with a very beautiful woman.

Both of them were lying in bed.

Sweaty.

Breathing heavily.

At that moment…

Loren's phone rang.

Loren frowned.

He grabbed the phone and answered.

"What is it?"

The voice on the other side sounded nervous.

"Loren… this is serious."

"The warehouse was attacked."

Loren slowly sat up.

"What?"

The voice continued.

"And the club too."

Loren's eyes widened.

"What did you say?"

"And also… the boss has called everyone."

"He wants us to gather right now."

Loren swallowed.

Just thinking about the boss made his stomach tighten.

"I understand," he said with a tense voice. "I'll go there."

"Come quickly," the voice replied. "The boss is very angry."

"I know."

"I'll go as fast as I can."

Loren hung up.

He got out of bed and began putting on his pants.

The woman in the bed looked at him in confusion.

"Baby… where are you going?"

Loren looked at her for a second.

To him, that woman meant nothing.

He could find another one whenever he wanted.

He ignored her.

He finished dressing and left the room.

As he walked, he thought.

Who the hell had done this?

Then an answer appeared in his mind.

The clown.

Loren clenched his jaw.

"That damn clown…"

He had killed his brother.

He had threatened him.

And now he was attacking the entire organization.

Suddenly…

Loren's face turned pale.

The boss.

The boss would already know about the clown.

Loren began to tremble.

"Shit…"

He clenched his fists tightly.

He left the house and walked toward his car.

One of his men was waiting outside.

"Quick," Loren ordered.

"We have to meet with the boss."

"Now!"

He got into the car.

"Move!" Loren shouted.

The vehicle sped off.

---

In Morris County.

Vivian and Brittany were still awake.

They had been talking in Vivian's room.

But neither of them felt sleepy.

They decided to go down to the living room.

Brittany grabbed the remote and turned on the television.

News.

The presenter spoke with a serious tone.

"Two attacks occurred tonight involving a mysterious individual dressed as a clown."

Images of the destroyed club appeared on the screen.

"A warehouse and a club were attacked."

"Authorities are asking the public not to panic."

"The police and the FBI are already working to capture this criminal."

The reporter continued.

"Witnesses claim that when the club's roof exploded, fireworks shot into the sky forming a message."

The words appeared on the screen.

"These are only the preparations…

for the real fireworks."

Brittany fell silent.

Vivian too.

Both of them watched the television.

Brittany spoke first.

"Vivian…"

"It looks like that clown really is going to eliminate Loren and his entire organization."

Vivian crossed her arms.

"We gave him the green light to do it."

Then she sighed.

"Although it looks like he was going to do it anyway."

The two of them continued watching the news.
