Chapter 3 - Three

WREN

It hurt, but I dismissed my sad thoughts, and stepped out of his way

immediately. There were maids here, what was I thinking looking at him, smiling at

him?

Goddess, I was an idiot.

Resisting the urge to look back at him, I rushed out of the room, down the

hallway and straight to my room.

Thankfully, the door opened easily and I rushed to my bed. Not all the maids

slept in the Castle, but I was born and brought up here. This small space with two

beds crammed together, two closets and a table was my home.

I must not be caught at the Staff Quarters at this time, but I needed a fucking

break.

I opened the paper again and reread the words, reminding myself that he

could be kind, that he cared for me, that he was mine.

Today was one of the bad days, I supposed.

The room door swung open, and I tensed up.

But then Fiona walked in and I breathed.

"Goddess, you too? I'm so exhausted." She kicked her sandals off, and jumped

on her bed. A foul smell hit my nose and I scrunched it.

"You fucking stink."

She scoffed. "Why, thank you, bestie. You look gorgeous, too."

We both snorted. And I looked down at myself. I was certain there were a few

stains on my face and half of my uniform was painted with dust.

Ugh. I'd be embarrassed to be seen talking to me, too. I must have looked like

a dustpan.

"Where did you get assigned to today?" I asked, still scrunching my nose,

because she actually stunk so fucking bad.

"The Sewers, if you cannot tell."

Fiona was caught kissing a guard on the Castle grounds, and they're being

punished with odd jobs for a year. It's ridiculous, really. The rule that Castle staff

must not be romantically involved with each other on the grounds.

"I truly hope that kiss was worth it," I muttered, laying on my bed, too.

She scoffed, because we both knew it wasn't.

"I'm never even going to look at a man ever again."

"Fucking lie."

"For someone who grew up in the Castle, you swear so much, Wren."

Her eyes were covered by her arm. Otherwise, she would have seen the look I

gave her. "As you've been saying for the past Seven years."

She smiled softly, and the room remained silent after that. Seconds later, her

soft snores filled the space. She must have been really tired.

I folded the piece of paper, and tucked it into my pillowcase, wishing 11:00pm

could come fast enough.

...

When I knocked on his door, he pulled me into his room, slamming the door,

me against it. His lips crashed on mine, hot and soft and heavy.

I giggled into the kiss, but he didn't let up, hands all over my body as he took

what he wanted. I tried to get lost in the kiss, but he was so rough I shoved him away

with a smile.

"One would think you're fucking starved," I muttered, but he didn't smile.

His finger traced my now-clean face as his eyes soften.

"You are so beautiful," he whispered, and my cheeks heat as he stares at me

like I was something so precious, too precious.

And I wasn't.

So I trailed my hand down his shirt, biting my bottom lip when I got to his

pants, traced my fingers along his impressive length and listened to his breath

hitched.

His eyes fluttered closed.

"I'm yours," I whispered. "Yours, Prince Caius."

He growled, that wolf-y sound that was my undoing. Absolutely undid me

every fucking time. It was his favourite words to hear, I knew. Alphas were known to

be possessive. To seek to own, to devour.

I took his hand, and led him to sit on his large bed, before sinking to my knees

in front of him. His scent fills my nostrils; cedar and wine, and I breathe in, feeling

the mate pull.

If I'd had my wolf, I knew she'd be feral right then.

An Alpha and an Omega. Who would have guessed? I let myself wonder why

the Moon goddess did this. Most of the time she kept to the ranks. But I was so

grateful to her, she didn't know the extent of it.

Hooded eyes stared down at me, and I relished in the hungry, feral look in his

eyes. He was so expressive, so fucking mine.

"You missed me?" I hummed as I unhooked his belt slowly.

"So much," he said. "It was torture."

I clicked my tongue. "I don't think it was, my prince. I saw you playing" —I

pulled out his belt— "laughing with Myron and Rhett" —undid his button— "and then

Jesina put her hands on you, and you smiled at her so prettily."

There was no envy in my tone, I hoped, as I released his already throbbing

erection, wrapping my hands around the smooth skin. Jesina can touch him all she

wants, but she'll never have him.

His hungry gaze dropped to me. I was dressed as one of the personal maids

from the Royal Inn, making sure no one spared me an extra glance as I walked here.

It was a revealing dress, and I hated it. But it was night-time. I'd walked by

only two maids and four guards to get here. Hardly bothering.

"I can be happy and still miss you, Wren," he replied with a wry smile. My

heart fluttered, and then there was that negative feeling. Just at the bottom of my

stomach, crawling up with fear, to remind me that it was so good with him.

Too good to be true.

"True," I said, pushing the feeling down, before leaning forward to kiss the tip.

He sucked in a sharp breath, and I smiled, lapping at his precum before taking

him into my mouth, deep.

I might not have been able to give him my body, but I could give him so many

other things.

And it was going to be such a long, long night.
