Chapter 2 - chapter two

When I opened my eyes, I found myself lying in a broken-down, rickety carriage. As ridiculous as it sounds, that was the reality.I had transmigrated.

This must be the "field mission location" that the immortal mentioned.

Wait— the uniform of the soldier driving the carriage looked familiar…Wasn't that an Imperial soldier's outfit?

I looked around: towering pine trees, half-melted snow on the ground, exposed rocks…Fuck! How the hell did I end up here?!

"Hey! You're finally awake. What did you say?"

I raised my head and saw a man around thirty talking to me.He was handsome, with sparse stubble on his face.Strands of flax-colored hair lay messily on his head—clearly unwashed for quite some time.

"Are you talking to me?"

I tried to point at myself, but realized my hands were tightly bound behind my back.I struggled to break free. The man across from me laughed.

"Don't bother. Those Imperial bastards tied us up good and tight."

"And you are?"

"Almost forgot to introduce myself. Bolg, from Riverwood. And you?"

"Wait… aren't you supposed to be Ralof?"

The man looked surprised.

"Ralof? You know that kid too? Hahaha! He's my childhood friend. When the fighting started, he protected the High King and fled with him. No idea how the two are doing now."

Things had gotten serious. This guy wasn't Ralof. Which meant…

I quickly looked around. The carriage only held Bolg and me.Shit! I was just a random extra! If nothing changed, I'd be sent straight to Helgen to be executed. Damn my luck.

Bolg smiled kindly."How did you get captured? Judging by your clothes, you're not one of us."

I sighed."Ended up here without knowing how."

"Don't worry, friend. Those who die bravely go to Sovngarde and gain eternal life. May we meet again in Sovngarde."

"Do I look like someone who dies bravely? You have your Sovngarde, I have my own destination."

"And where's that?"

"To meet an infuriating, completely unreliable bastard."

"Sounds like you're not happy with your god. How about starting to believe in Talos instead?"

Honestly, I started admiring this guy. He was about to die and still preaching.Didn't he know there was such a thing as materialism?

"Talos is the true god. The only human among the Nine Divines. He ascended in the flesh, and his breath became wind and snow."

He continued passionately:

"The elves fear even his name, which is why they banned our faith. But Talos's divine power remains mighty. One day, he'll use harsh winter to sweep away all the elves and the Imperial dogs they raise—just like Ysgramor once drove the elves from this land."

I couldn't help laughing. I didn't expect him to know so much—he even mentioned Ysgramor.

Seeing me laugh, he asked:"What? Did I say something wrong?"

"Shut your mouths back there!" the Imperial soldier driving the carriage shouted.

"What you said is wrong. Those Imperials who serve the elves don't even deserve to be called dogs!"

Bolg froze, then burst out laughing."Good brother! You're hilarious."

After earning the goodwill of a Nordic brother for free, our journey ended—Helgen.

It was my first time seeing the real Helgen: towering walls, tall watchtowers, fully armed Imperial soldiers on patrol. It felt completely different from the game.

We were led to an open space between two towers.Several heavily armed Imperial soldiers stood there, including many orcs.

But none of that left a strong impression on me.What I couldn't forget was the blood-soaked wooden block in the center. It was a makeshift execution platform. The original color of the wood was gone—everything was deep red.The block was completely saturated with blood.

A burly executioner stood nearby, gripping a massive axe.

"The last one—Bolg of Riverwood!"

A clerk holding a list shouted the name. Without a doubt, this was Hadvar, the blacksmith's nephew.

Bolg stepped forward bravely."Throw away that damn list, Imperial! I'm Bolg!"

"Take him away!"

A stern female voice commanded. At that moment, Hadvar noticed me hiding at the back.

"Captain, there's one extra."

"Doesn't matter. Execute him too."

Hadvar looked at me apologetically."I'm sorry, friend. May you gain eternal life in Sovngarde."

"Wait!"

I shouted desperately."If I say I'm not with the rebels, will you believe me?"

The Imperial captain smiled mockingly and barked:"Take him away!"

I was shoved forward toward the execution ground. As soon as I arrived, I saw the executioner raise his axe and cleanly sever a rebel's head. The sight was horrifying—I never knew blood could spray that high.

I figured my dinner was canceled—if there even was going to be one.

"Next!"

A Nord stepped forward with righteous resolve and walked toward the block. The priest of Arkay began reciting the prayer:

"Great Arkay, forgive the sinner's soul and—"

"Shut up! Talos forever!"

Thunk. The axe fell.

"Next—the scavenger!"

"Scavenger my ass! That's you and your whole damn family!"

Since I was about to die anyway, I cursed without restraint.Still yelling, I was pressed onto the execution block. The stench of blood was so thick it felt like it pierced my brain.

Only then did I realize—I was really going to die.Overwhelming fear and the metallic smell made my entire body tremble.

Every movement of the executioner felt like slow motion.I saw him slowly lift the axe…

"MOM!!!"

I screamed—and lost consciousness.

When I woke up again, I was sitting in a familiar office.Zhang Lin sat across from me, laughing uncontrollably.

I grabbed his hand."I quit! I'm not doing this field mission anymore!"

He tried to suppress his laughter."That won't do. We signed a contract."

"Brother! Please! Forget the contract! Send me home! I'll introduce another savior to you!"

Zhang Lin shook his head."The contract isn't a joke…"

I snapped."This is fraud! Contract fraud! What kind of transmigration puts someone straight into a death row inmate?!I got beheaded the moment I arrived! That's worse than getting shot!"

"You want to get shot?"

I hardened my resolve."Trying to scare me? I'm not afraid! Worst case, I become a ghost and complain to the King of Hell!If you don't send me back, I'll fight you to the end!"

Zhang Lin looked intimidated, then smiled."Calm down, brother. This was our mistake. How about continuing the test and I give you some compensation?"

"What compensation? Less than two billion dollars, don't bother."

"Brother, let's talk properly. Don't you want cheats, like in novels?"

"Don't bullshit me! You promised cheats before!"

"But it wasn't written in the contract, right?"

"I don't care. I'm not going."

"Hey, recruiting people isn't easy. Cheats are strictly forbidden. The last employee with cheats caused chaos in another world. That's why they're taboo."

"Doesn't matter! Find someone else to die. I resign!"

"Then we'll follow procedure. But you'll have to wait."

"How long?"

"Twenty days. In human time, twenty years. During that time, we'll stop controlling the flow of time in your body."

"You bastard!"

No wonder he's an immortal—normal people can't be this cruel.

Zhang Lin smiled professionally again."See? Much better now. Don't worry—I'll secretly enable cheats for you."

"Fine… by the way, what were you laughing at earlier?"

He slid a small monitor toward me.On the screen, I was pinned to the execution block, screaming "Mom!"The executioner panicked, slipped, and buried the axe into his own foot…

When the chaos ended and a new executioner stepped in, they discovered I was already dead.

Fuck… I died of fright. How embarrassing.

And worse—this bastard was looping the video.

"Relax. No third person will ever see it."

A wave of dizziness hit me, and I slowly woke up again. This time, when I opened my eyes, everything was pitch black.

Fuck… did I scare myself blind?
