Mirabelle was already sliding from Kaelith's back before the hyena seemed to realize what she was doing.
He gave a startled sound and immediately lowered himself, folding his front legs beneath him just in time to prevent his female from attempting what would otherwise have been a rather ambitious drop to the courtyard stones.
Mirabelle barely noticed. Her feet touched the ground. A heartbeat later, Lysandra crashed into her.
Both females wrapped their arms around each other, laughing as they bounced on their toes like little girls who hadn't seen each other in years rather than two noblewomen surrounded by soldiers, servants, and half the household of Rotwald.
Mirabelle didn't care.
Apparently, neither did Lysandra.
Around them, several people smiled. Even some of the soldiers who had been standing rigidly near the entrance visibly relaxed at the sight.
