Chapter 4 - Chapter 4: Unending Currents

Leaving the small house, Tomioka Giyu looked back three times with each step. He knew that once he left this time, it would be difficult to return.

Next, he would spend a year becoming a Hashira. He had no choice; he had calculated that killing fifty demons would take at least a year.

This didn't mean his speed in killing demons was slow, but rather that demons wouldn't stand there waiting for him to kill them.

Nor would they come to his doorstep every night to offer themselves up.

However, if he was lucky enough to encounter a Lower Rank, it wouldn't take a year.

If you ask why not an Upper Rank? Haha, please don't make such Hellish jokes!

After he became a Hashira, he would have even less time. One must know that currently there are only two Hashira, Stone and Sound.

The Demon Slayer Corps was in urgent need of high-end combat power.

Calculating this way, the earliest he could return would be five years later, on the day he met Tanjiro. Perhaps he could use that opportunity to visit his master.

Once the plot got on track, he would be even busier, constantly rushing around.

He was organizing his thoughts the whole way. By the time Tomioka Giyu came to his senses, he had already arrived at the foot of the mountain.

Just then, his Kasugai Crow, Kanzaburo, circled above his head, squawking loudly.

"Tomioka Giyu, I shall relay an order!"

"Please proceed to the bamboo forest in the southeast direction. Everyone who entered there has vanished! Not a trace!"

Tomioka Giyu stretched, feeling a faint excitement in his heart. "My first demon, huh..."

Half an hour later, all that excitement turned into helplessness. He then remembered what kind of Kasugai Crow Kanzaburo was.

Tomioka Giyu rubbed his forehead, his tone full of helplessness, but he didn't blame Kanzaburo; after all, his age was a factor.

"Please, old man, think again, which direction exactly?"

"From our current location, besides the village ahead, everything around us is trees."

But clearly, Kanzaburo's senility had acted up again, and he directly went into a frozen state, seemingly trying his best to recall.

Having no choice, Tomioka Giyu could only choose to go into the village and ask if anyone knew where a bamboo forest was nearby.

But as soon as he entered the village, Tomioka Giyu sensed that something was wrong.

Although his nose wasn't as keen as Tanjiro's, he still smelled the strong scent of blood in the air.

And it was very fresh, likely having just appeared in the air, perhaps not even half an hour ago.

Just then, a tender voice came from far to near.

"Help, help! Don't come any closer!!!"

Soon, a blood-soaked boy, who looked only thirteen or fourteen, appeared in Tomioka Giyu's line of sight.

Tomioka Giyu's pupils constricted slightly. Just as he took his first step, wanting to save the boy, a black figure instantly bit off the boy's head.

Immediately after, the black figure showed no hesitation, dragging the boy's body and flashing into a nearby bungalow.

"Tsk, my luck can't be that good, can it? The first demon I encounter is one of the Twelve Kizuki?!"

Thinking this, Tomioka Giyu quickly pursued into the bungalow. The moment he opened the door, the black figure lunged directly, clearly prepared.

But unfortunately, this small move had already been anticipated by Tomioka Giyu.

Tomioka Giyu lowered his center of gravity, held his sword horizontally across his chest with his right arm, and said calmly: "Water Breathing, First Form: Dead Water Surface Slash!"

A blue light flashed horizontally, and the head of the black figure fell to the ground at that moment!

Tomioka Giyu finally saw what this guy looked like.

Although it had a nose and a mouth, it only had one eye, and two pointed horns grew on its cheeks.

He would believe it if someone said this appearance was Gyokko's relative.

"It only has this one eye on its body, I wonder if another one grew somewhere else..."

After careful observation, Tomioka Giyu shook his head in disappointment. "Tsk, no numbers, not one of the Twelve Kizuki..."

Suddenly, a sense of danger surged into his heart. Tomioka Giyu made a decisive move, gripping his sword with both hands and striking down heavily.

"Water Breathing, Eighth Form: Waterfall Basin."

Bang----

The Water Hashira struck the ground from top to bottom. At the same time, two demons crashed through the window and pounced.

It was just a pity that they all collided with the Waterfall Basin technique, and their heads were directly smashed together.

"The same attire..." Tomioka Giyu suddenly had a guess, "Could this be some kind of Blood Demon Art?!"

Clap clap clap----

"Footsteps? Sure enough, there are more!"

Rushing out of the house, he looked up to see dozens of demons, identical to the three he had just seen, running towards him at high speed.

Tomioka Giyu took a deep breath and actively met them.

"Water Breathing, Third Form: Flowing Dance!"

At this moment, Tomioka Giyu was completely integrated with the water, his figure flowing like water. While dodging the attacks of a dozen demons, he continuously cut off their heads!

Within just a few minutes, more than ten demons were all cut down, yet Tomioka Giyu himself didn't even have a corner of his clothes torn.

But he wasn't happy, because from the surrounding houses, more identical demons emerged, as if there was a monster spawner inside.

"Tsk, where is the main body exactly? Could it be one of them...?" Tomioka Giyu's brows furrowed as he retreated, pondering in his mind.

Although these demons weren't very strong, if they could really keep appearing, his stamina would eventually be depleted.

He must find the guy hiding in the shadows as soon as possible!

As for leaving, he dismissed the thought without even considering it. If he ran away every time he encountered a difficulty, what kind of Water Hashira would he be?!

"There must be something different! Calm down and find it!"

Tomioka Giyu constantly changed direction, fending off the demons' attacks while quickly scanning each demon with his eyes.

But after more than ten minutes, no matter how he looked, he couldn't see any difference.

No fleeing demons, no demons standing still, no demons intentionally avoiding him; these guys even had the same expressions!

After killing three more demons, Tomioka Giyu flipped over and jumped directly onto the roof of a bungalow.

He adjusted his breathing, clearly feeling his condition starting to decline.

"Why is this happening? Is the demon's main body hiding somewhere even further away?!"

"Hmm? Wait a minute, why are those few demons circling around the back of the house?"

Bang----

Before Tomioka Giyu could figure it out, more than a dozen demons had already climbed onto the roof one after another, some even breaking through the roof to force their way up.

Tomioka Giyu did not kill them, but instead leaped sharply to the roof on the other side. Leaping high, his vision became even wider.

"Hmph, so that's how it is!"

Landing steadily, Tomioka Giyu's eyes flickered. He had been fighting on the ground earlier, coupled with the main body of that demon deliberately doing so.

That's why he hadn't noticed that the endless stream of demons weren't coming from all directions, but were all running out of one particular courtyard!
