Chapter 36 - 36

Several days had passed since the North Galaxy had been restored by the Dragon Balls.

At last, Tundra's eyes opened.

He slowly sat up, rubbing the sleep from them as he looked around the room. It was cramped—clearly not designed for someone of his size. The ceiling felt low, the bed small.

Where the hell was he?

And what happened to Buu?

Tundra rolled out of the bed carefully. The moment his feet touched the ground his head spun violently, a throbbing pain pulsing through his skull. He steadied himself and crouched toward the door.

Opening it, he twisted his body sideways to squeeze through the narrow frame.

Beyond it was a long staircase ascending up.

Tundra sat at the bottom of the stairs and closed his eyes, spreading his ki sense.

Immediately he noticed something strange.

His sensing range had shrunk dramatically.

Still, he didn't worry much. During the battle he had consciously sensed ki for hours without stopping—of course that would strain his senses.

After a few moments he locked onto the planet's surface and teleported.

He appeared beside a calm lake.

Standing there, Tundra silently watched the water ripple.

He had no idea where he was… but he knew one thing clearly.

He couldn't sense the place he came from anymore.

Then suddenly—

His eyes widened.

Two voids.

Directly behind him.

"Is that you, Supreme Kai?"

Behind him stood Beerus and Whis.

Beerus looked sideways at Whis in surprise.

This mortal could sense them?

With everything the mortal had done, perhaps it wasn't so impossible. In fact… one could almost call him godly.

Godly…

Beerus paused.

Hadn't the Oracle Fish once spoken about a godly rival?

Beerus shook his head. There was no proof this was the prophesied one.

Clearing his throat, Beerus spoke.

"No. I am not Shin. My name is Beerus."

He narrowed his eyes.

"How did you sense us, mortal?"

Tundra turned around, finally seeing them.

One was a tall man with pale blue skin and long white hair pointing upward. The other…

A humanoid purple cat.

That was new.

"I didn't sense you," Tundra said calmly. "Voids are noticeable. The same way one notices a black hole."

Beerus glanced at Whis, silently asking if that explanation made sense.

He had never encountered a mortal with senses that sharp—especially one without God Ki.

Whis nodded gently.

"It is possible, Lord Beerus. God Ki has far greater density than mortal ki. The two cannot mix. To someone with sufficiently sharp senses, we would indeed appear as voids."

Beerus hummed thoughtfully before turning back to Tundra.

"I'm sure you have many questions. Ask them now—or remain silent forever."

Tundra had been listening carefully. He had already deduced that normal ki and God Ki couldn't mix, but the explanation about density clarified things further.

He began thinking immediately.

"Is there a way for a mortal to gain this God Ki?"

Beerus looked at him… then at Whis… then back again.

"Not unless you undergo a ritual like the one I completed to become a God of Destruction. And even then, it wouldn't be pure God Ki."

Tundra wasn't surprised that God Ki required a ritual.

But something else caught his attention.

Beerus was a God of Destruction?

And his God Ki was impure?

That was interesting.

"What exactly does a God of Destruction do? And what do you mean by your God Ki not being pure?"

Beerus stared blankly at him.

What exactly did this mortal think a God of Destruction did?

"I destroy planets that fail to meet my standards," Beerus replied flatly. "And regarding God Ki… no mortal can possess pure God Ki."

Whis added thoughtfully,

"In theory it is possible. You would need to remove all of your existing ki and replace it entirely with God Ki."

He paused.

"That process would almost certainly kill you before you even made contact with God Ki."

Tundra nodded.

He understood.

True gods possessed pure God Ki. Mortals could only obtain diluted versions.

He had one final question.

"What happened to Buu?"

Beerus answered quickly, clearly annoyed by the topic.

"I destroyed the pest."

Tundra nodded slowly, processing the answer.

Then another thought surfaced.

"…Was Shin once a mortal?"

Beerus raised an eyebrow.

"And what makes you think that?"

Tundra replied calmly.

"He didn't seem particularly strong. Not even as strong as I was before my training. And you spoke of destroying Buu as if he were an insect."

Beerus thought about that for a moment.

In hindsight… he had made Shin sound rather unimpressive.

"Well… Shin is not particularly talented in battle," Beerus admitted. "And he hasn't even completed his training. Compared to the other Supreme Kais, he's below average."

Tundra considered that.

If an incompetent Supreme Kai was still that strong… then God Ki truly was something miraculous.

But something else lingered in his memory.

Shin had once said he was the Supreme Kai of this universe.

Tundra looked up.

"How many universes are there?"

Beerus' eyebrows rose.

A mortal aware of other universes?

Now that was unusual.

"There are twelve universes now," Beerus replied. "Six were destroyed."

Beerus suddenly looked around.

"…Where did I leave that pizza box?"

He tapped his chin, distracted.

Then he waved Tundra off dismissively.

"I'm not answering any more questions."

With that, Beerus lifted into the air and flew away, privately amused at withholding the rest of the explanation.

Tundra remained by the lake.

Alone.

He stared quietly into the water.

Six universes destroyed.

What could possibly wipe out entire universes?
