Niu Family Village was a remote little village that once had over a thousand residents. Now, the young people had long since left, leaving only the old and the weak—a few elderly folks and some left-behind children. Erya was one of them.
After she was born, her parents were in a car accident while on their way to find work in the city.
From then on, Erya was left to depend on her grandparents for survival.
But as her grandparents grew older, her grandfather passed away, leaving only her 80-year-old grandmother and 9-year-old Erya in the house.
Given the circumstances, the village had arranged for Erya to complete her nine years of compulsory education. But how could Erya, who had been raised by her grandparents, possibly feel at ease leaving her 80-year-old grandmother home alone?
