Chapter 3 - Chapter 3: Audition 1

Riley Perry hung up and smiled at the person who had just taken her picture. "Could I see that photo you just took?"

Tristan Lee smiled sheepishly and held his phone out to her. "If you don't like it, I can delete it."

Riley Perry blinked her big, sparkling eyes at him. "That's not what I meant. I just want to see if you took a bad picture of me. I'm an actress, you know. If you post an ugly photo of me, I'll lose fans."

Soon, she was holding the phone and pointing at the screen. "Look, this angle is all wrong. It makes my face look big, and it gives me short, stubby legs. Let me tell you, if you take pictures of your girlfriend like this, you're going to get hit. Come on, I'll teach you. You do it like this..."

Tristan Lee: 'Where did this Little Fairy come from? She's so adorable!'

In the end, Riley Perry struck a pose and let him take another picture. She even had him follow her on Weibo before she stepped out of the elevator, only to get into another one going down to find Nana.

That's right. She'd gotten so caught up in teaching someone how to take a good picture of her that she'd missed her floor!

Riley Perry soon appeared on the eighth floor. Joanna had been staring at the elevator doors the whole time, and the moment Riley appeared, her eyes went wide. 'Oh my god, did my actress go out and suck the life force out of someone? It's only been one night, how did she get this beautiful?'

"Nana~"

Joanna was dazed for another moment, her gaze fixed on her client. 'Beautiful. Just too beautiful! Can anyone tell me how a person can change so much overnight?'

A change in appearance could be explained by different makeup, but what about her voice? Her aura? How could those have changed?

She even started to suspect that it wasn't that Riley Perry's voice and aura had changed, but that she had been replaced by a different person entirely!

'Well, that's obviously impossible.' She figured the girl had probably just had an awakening and figured out how to properly showcase her best features.

"Riley Perry, talk normally! Stop being so coquettish!"

'After thirty-odd years of life, I'm only just now realizing I have a thing for voices!'

'This is going to be the death of me!'

Afraid she would say something else, Joanna simply shoved a script into Riley Perry's hands. "Read this, quickly. Memorize as much as you can. I just heard that Director Quinn said the audition scripts were sent out a week ago. Anyone who put in a little effort should have it memorized, so they won't give you another chance to look at it. Don't you dare mess this up for me."

With that, she pulled Riley Perry to a corner, sat her down, and watched her read the script.

Riley Perry wanted to look over the script again, too. After all, the memories she had received were from what the imposter had seen. The imposter had thought the role was too small and hadn't paid it any mind, so the memories were fuzzy.

In truth, the audition script they received was only a small portion of the whole thing. With a little focus, anyone could memorize it after reading through it a couple of times.

The male and female leads for the show were supposedly already cast. Hundreds of people were here to audition for the remaining supporting male and female roles.

After finishing the script, Riley Perry began sizing up the other actors in the hall. Thanks to the original owner's memories, she could recognize most of them. Even four or five A-list stars had shown up, which just went to show how sought-after a role in one of Director Quinn's productions was.

"Riley Perry, I didn't expect to see you at Director Quinn's audition! He's notoriously strict. If he yells at you, don't just storm off like you did last time."

Riley Perry turned her head to look at the speaker. It was Chloe Sterling, a young actress who had debuted around the same time she did. Unfortunately, the girl had a round face, which wasn't very popular in the entertainment industry these days. Her company had even tried to force her to get plastic surgery before she switched agencies and managed to save her natural face.

'Well, her family is rich. Breaking a contract is nothing to them.'

Hearing Chloe Sterling's words, a few people nearby thought the girl had a grudge against Riley Perry and was being deliberately sarcastic. But Riley Perry didn't sense any malice from her at all.

When the imposter first debuted, she'd gained a bit of fame thanks to her outstanding looks and had always had a high opinion of herself. So, when Joanna landed her a supporting role in a web series, she felt it was beneath her. On top of that, the director of the series had a short temper. After he yelled at her a couple of times, she just ran off, leaving the entire production in the lurch.

The incident was leaked online by someone with an agenda, and it naturally became one of the scandals attached to her name.

Riley Perry simply sat in her chair and smiled, a slight curve to her lips. "Miss Sterling, are you concerned about me? In that case, thank you for the reminder."

After speaking, she even gave Chloe Sterling a wink. Her beautiful, almond-shaped eyes seemed to have the power to steal one's very soul. Chloe Sterling's face turned bright red from her gaze!

'Riley Perry is so beautiful! She's even more stunning up close, and her voice is so lovely. No wonder everyone online says you can criticize her for anything, but you can't find a single flaw with her face!'

But Chloe Sterling felt that it wasn't just her looks; her voice was top-tier, too. Good enough to be a voice actress. There was nothing to criticize there, either.

The onlookers waiting for a show nearly had their jaws drop to the floor. Wasn't Riley Perry supposed to be sharp-tongued, abrasive, and completely lacking in social skills?

Seeing her today, it wasn't like that at all.

"I... I... Who's concerned about you?!"

Her manager, Ms. Shaw, pulled Chloe Sterling back in exasperation. "Chloe is just very direct. She doesn't mean any harm by it. Riley Perry, please don't be angry. I'm sorry."

Riley Perry's lips curved into a light smile. "I'm not angry, Ms. Shaw. I know."

Ms. Shaw: 'Good lord, is she some kind of siren? Even I can't withstand this assault of pure beauty!'

To keep from losing her composure, Ms. Shaw just said, "That's good, that's good," and quickly pulled her charge away, deliberately choosing a seat far from Riley Perry's group.

Ms. Shaw had been assigned to Chloe Sterling by the Sterling Family. She wasn't earning a commission based on her artist's work; to put it bluntly, she was the little princess's attendant. As long as the little princess was happy, she'd have everything she needed.

But Chloe Sterling was so blunt that Ms. Shaw frequently had to clean up her messes. Apologizing had become a regular occurrence. Ms. Shaw was quite helpless about it, but thankfully, the Sterling Family was large and powerful. The young miss was just in the entertainment industry for fun, so no one could really bully her.

After they left, Joanna nudged Riley Perry's arm. "Not bad. Did you really go get some special training? If you'd had this kind of emotional intelligence before, I wouldn't have stressed myself sick trying to find resources for you."

Riley: '...You call this emotional intelligence?'

'I'm just exceptionally gifted, okay? With this face, this body, this voice, who wouldn't be dazed if I smiled at them?'

"Nana~ From now on, I'll definitely act well and earn lots of money to make you proud. So can we please stop talking about the past?"

'It's all that imposter's fault. I, Riley Perry, am the number one beauty in the world—a sweet, gentle, adorable little thing. Even when I was living in a village as a child, I was the most popular person there. When have I ever been disliked by anyone?'

Joanna quickly pressed a hand to her wildly beating heart. 'Oh god, what kind of vixen-training class did my actress attend? When she acts all cute and coy like this, I really can't handle it!'

Previously, Riley Perry had always hated it when people said she looked too bewitching, believing it didn't fit the public's current aesthetic standards. So, she usually tried to dress herself in the style of a "Little Fairy," most often wearing light-colored clothes that didn't match her natural aura at all.
