Wanyun followed Lu Jingxing for nearly an hour, and her legs were aching by the time they arrived outside a courtyard.
Lu Jingxing glanced at Wanyun. "Tired?"
Wanyun nodded. "Yes."
She had grown up in a village. In the past, forget walking for two hours—she wouldn't even feel tired walking the four hours from her village into town.
But ever since coming to Chang'an, she rarely went out. Even when she did, it was always by sedan chair or carriage.
Lu Jingxing crouched down in front of her. "Hop on."
Wanyun climbed onto Lu Jingxing's back, wrapping her arms tightly around his neck. Lu Jingxing pushed the gate open and stepped inside, where a lean man came forward to greet him. "Master."
Lu Jingxing said, "Have the hot spring prepared."
"Yes."
Wanyun looked around. The garden was brightly lit with lanterns. "Where are we?" she asked curiously.
