Ming Wei flipped through the books, unable to quite wrap her head around it. Looking at the final volume, it described how snow and ice disasters had swept the realm during a winter in the Daqi Xianwen Period. A great many people had frozen to death that year.
Empress Ning had just been conferred her title, and some Concubines in the palace schemed against her, calling her a harbinger of disaster.
But Empress Ning had brought back a large quantity of cotton from the outer border.
Ming Wei didn't know what cotton was, but according to the book, it could ward off the cold, was extremely easy to grow, and its fibers could be woven into cloth for making clothes.
Ming Wei was truly unwilling to accept her current fate. She still had a sliver of hope!
