Chapter 1 - Awakening

Strange, I can't see any light, only darkness. As if my eyes are closed. But I remember I was busy... with what, exactly?

Why can't I remember what I did today? I'll have to open my eyes anyway. Damn, why is it so hard.

He opens his eyes and sees a white, sterile room lit by lamps of the same color. Turning his head, he notices hospital beds standing nearby.

"But how did I get here? I was in my laboratory."

And then he realizes he's looking at everything from a strange angle. He seems... so small? He freezes.

Trying to understand what's happening, he attempts to turn his head, but it feels incredibly heavy. Suddenly, he begins to suspect something, looks down, and understands.

"Was I reborn?! And as a child, no less?! Is this some kind of joke? How did this even happen?"

Suddenly, someone starts hugging him, picks him up, and presses him to their chest.

"Who is this?"

— Looks like it's time for little Kuzan to eat, — a gentle maternal voice suddenly says. And immediately, he feels something being put into his mouth.

"What? But my name is different. Stranger and stranger. And this body is hungry too, I can already feel it. Looks like I'll have to go with the flow for a while and try to figure out how I ended up in this body."

Looking at the woman feeding him, he saw her face. She appeared to be 20-25 years old, with soft, pleasant features, loose black hair, light green eyes, and a kind smile.

"So, I guess this is my mother. Damn, nothing makes sense. I should probably check this body's magical abilities." And as soon as he tried, a terrible discovery was made: he didn't feel a single drop of magic.

"******"

Words can't describe how much he wanted to swear. To end up in someone else's body, with living parents, without a drop of magic, in a non-magical body. HIM, the Monarch of Darkness. Just a terrible situation. Not the worst, but utterly disgusting.

Thinking it over, he remembered the woman's words—they were spoken in Japanese.

"*****, and in another country to boot. Just great. Alright, I'll have to find a way out somehow. But first, I need to fully understand where I am and who my parents are. Maybe they're Japanese but live in Britain? The chance is small, of course, but I need to hope for the best. Damn, I'm so sleepy..."

His eyes close, and he falls into sleep.

Three months passed.

In three months, I figured out a few things. First, this is definitely Japan—Japanese news was on TV, and when I was taken out for a walk in the stroller, everyone around spoke Japanese.

Second, during the walks, I saw many strange people: with long necks, long fingers, gray ones, yellow ones, cat-girls, lizard-boys, and so on. From which I can conclude that I'm not in my own world.

No, of course, mages can be strange too, but not to this degree. We just had architecture in an older style, and robes with hats. But here, it's a veritable riot of diversity.

I also learned that my mother's name is Kageyama Hitomi, and my father's is Kageyama Akira. My father is a slightly plump but handsome man with unruly black hair and brown eyes.

My name is Kageyama Kuzan. I wonder how I'll look: the same as in my past world, or closer to my parents in this world?

Why did I so easily accept these people as my parents? Well, when you've only seen your real parents in photographs, and here are people who seem to love you, you can't help but start considering them family.

For now, I don't understand much about this world, but that's understandable. After all, transitioning from a grown man with a family to a three-month-old child is rather tough.

The strange thing is that my father can turn off the light bulbs in my nursery from a distance. At first, I thought there was a switch in the hallway, but then he turned off the light right as he was leaving the room. It was similar to the Nox charm, but it definitely wasn't that—otherwise, I would have felt the movement of magic, even a tiny bit. It looked as if he simply took the light from those bulbs.

So, I was reborn in another fantasy world with a bunch of different races, where people have superpowers similar to our magic.

How do I get back to my world?
