The deeper Ethan and Elara travelled, the more signs they found of the gremlins' unusual behaviour. Crude barricades blocked smaller passages, while platforms had been reinforced with bone and stone. Discarded weapons littered the ground, and crude paintings covered the walls.
Ethan stopped beside one.
It depicted a towering creature surrounded by dozens of smaller figures. The proportions were terrible, but the resemblance to whatever had roared through the tunnels was unmistakable.
"Looks like they worship something."
Elara examined the markings beneath it.
"Or fear it."
"Probably both."
He leaned closer, but the symbols meant nothing to him.
'They even have their own language.'
It brought back the dilemma Elara had while clearing that Orc Gate and many others since.
BOOM!
A sudden crash interrupted their thoughts.
Kaela burst through a wooden barricade, sending splinters flying. She had a gremlin tucked beneath each arm and threw them in opposite directions.
