Chapter 3 - ☄️ SELITH ☄️

I looked at my smiling sister, so young yet burdened with great responsibilities. Her fears and worries sipped into our bond even if her face was a mask of smiles.

Selera knew that being a white flame, she wouldn't have much time to live. I hoped to make her life worth while. With that thought, another smile blossomed on my face.

Selera was a sight to behold especially now as we walked under the receiding light of the evening sun. Her long flowing white hair swayed with the evening breeze. Her bronze coloured skin, marked with white runes, the evidence of being born of a white flame. She tucked her hair behind her pointy ear, a source of pride to our people. I once read an earthling article while I was younger and curious about the species of other planets across the veil. The article talked about their mythological creatures called mermen or was it merfolks? I cannot remember. But our ears has a resemblance to those mythological creatures. Although, these creatures were born and lived in the aquatic, we are born of flames. Our ears helps us receive sounds from hundreds of metres away, above and below. Among all our people, Selera and I had the most pointy ears, even in the history of priestesses and their soul twins.

Although my appearance mirrored Selera's, I was slightly shorter than her. While she was curvy in the right places, she moved with a certain aloofness and grace. I on the other hand, decided to throw away our nobel training on aloofness and choose to be the bubbly one.

"What are you smiling about?" Selera asked, breaking me from my chain of thoughts.

"Oh nothing" I replied and beamed when she narrowed her blue eyes which also mirrored mine, at me.

"You seemed to have being thinking of something quite seriously that you did not even notice that we are right outside Elion's compound" She pointed out and only then, did I realize that we were standing in front of my mate's compound gate.

"Oh right" I replied while Selera shook her head with an amused smile.

I reach for my tech beads on my wrist and tapped a few of them. The gate opened and we stepped in.

"Elion!!" I called out in a sing song manner and a couple of seconds later, my mate comes dashing out the front door. His brown hair looked messy like he had been running his hands through it. His Bronze skin, like any other person on Ashalyr, was marked with blue runes indicating his birth from a blue flame, Second only to the legendary white flame.

He wore a big boyish smile that never failed to do funny things to me. The moment he was close enough, he scooped me into his arms and twirled, making me burst into a feat of giggling.

By the time he let me back to my feet, I turned to see Selera smiling at us in an almost motherly way.

"Greetings Priestess" Elion bowed after Releasing me and placed his left hand on the right side of his chest above where our hearts are located. It was the greeting of our people and it spoke of our love and loyalty to one another. Selera returned the greeting with another warm smile.

"I almost thought you didn't see me here Elion" She teased while Elion tugged gently on his ear in embarrassment.

"Selera" I called out, coming to my mate's rescue.

"Ah, you really cannot let him suffer a tiny bit" She teased with a small chuckle.

"Of course not. He is mine to protect" I declared with puffed out chest.

"Right? Elion love?" I asked my mate before winking at him.

"I...uh..yes" he shutters in embarrassment and I was so sure that if our people didn't have brown skin, he would have been blushing red by now.

"Well, are we just going to stand outside? I mean, the weather is quite nice today" Selera commented while pretending to admire the weather.

"Oh right. This way my ladies if you would please?" Elion said.

"Why thank you my fine gentleman" I replied and linked my hand with Selera's who was chuckling in amusement.

The night was eventful and filled with laughter which was caused by my usual brickering with Elion. Even Elion's younger brother stopped by. He was a few inches taller than Elion and was Nineteen sun cycles old, Only six sun cycles younger than his brother Elion and five sun cycles younger than I and Selera. His runes were a lighter blue shade than Elion's and he was already bulky due to his training as a young soldier.

"You cannot keep coming over uninvited like this Toren" Elion said.

"Why not? Coming over uninvited like this usually brings me the benefit of free food" Toren replied with a playful grin.

"Greetings Priestess, my lady" Toren bowed with his hand to his chest.

"You seem to have brought quite a lot with you Toren" I commented, gesturing at his bag.

"Indeed my lady..." He began but I cut him off.

"What did I say about calling me with my title?" I asked

"My apologies Sister" He replied.

"Go on with your words" I urged.

"Right. I have a few sun rotations leave and I plan on freeloading off my big brother Elion" Toren replied, his playful grin back on his face.

"Go to our parents home you muscle head" Elion counters with a small frown.

"Not a chance or Liora will bug me none stop about putting in a good word to the priestess to let her be her personal aide. For some reason, she believes I can help her instead of asking you, who is joining with lady Selith" Toren said, sounding dreadful as if his eighteen sun cycles old Sister was a menance.

Liora was a lovely growing female with great ambition. Elion always spoke fondly of her. He said she had alway, from a young age, wanted to be Selera's aide and that dream grew together with her age.

"Well, you better hope she doesn't catch words of you being at my place. I wouldn't want you two turning my house upside down" Elion replied.

"Oh come on you two, you make Liora sound like a troublemaker" I said.

"That's exactly what she is" Elion and Toren replied at the same time for I and Selera to chuckle.

"Tell Liora that I would not mind having an aide. But, she has to impress me" Selera said with a warm smile.

"Really?" Toren asked in surprise to which, Selera nodded calmly in response.

"Thank you priestess" Toren said and bowed, followed by Elion.

"Can we get back to eating now?" I asked and everyone bursts into laughter.

"Good idea sister" Toren added.

And so, the evening continued with laughter and teasing and I was glad that Selera had relaxed a bit under the atmosphere.
