Chapter 3 - Chapter 3: NPC Authorities

Ludwig's eyes nearly popped out of his head when he saw this!

He looked at the small window deeply before turning to his game panel, mentally pressing on the [NPC] tab.

When he opened it, he saw the normal overview.

[NPC Rank: Intermediate][Authority: Inspect Player, Issue Side Quest, Punish Players (I), Reward Players (I)]

[Issue Side Quest] is the lowest authority among the "Issue Quest" series, it allows one to issue small quests that are usually used to help the players gain levels and items, sometimes even a few skills.

[Inspect Player] is the ability to digitalize the stats of a player into a stats panel.

The remaining two are simple, based on the quest he may reward these players or punish them.

Without this authority, he would be a signboard that just issues quests, and he couldn't reward them with things such as "Experience Points".

As for punishment, generally it was to give players a penalty, such as buying things at a higher price, being banned from a certain place, mark these players red and making them "free to kill" or other things.

The (I) behind the two authorities is the level of his power – for example, Reward Players (I) means that he can at most reward 10.000 experience points per mission. The same was for punishment, essentially he could only inconvenience the players.

There was no more he could do as an NPC – in fact, he hadn't even tested the functions he had.

He finally stopped hesitating and pressed [Yes].

In an instant, Bran seemed to glow in a blue light, but looking at his unchanged face, it seemed like he didn't see it. A moment later, the glow disappeared and all that remained was a little blue light around him, as if to clearly show Ludwig that this was a player and not a random NPC.

He used his [Inspect Player] authority and inspected Bran!

[Stats][Wisdom: 78][Constitution: 90][Vitality: 73][Dexterity: 82]

When Ludwig looked at these stats, he finally realised why this old man was overworking day and night yet didn't feel tired at all.

Looking at his dexterity and constitution stats, he knew where a major part of his free points ended up!

In the game, every profession direction would get a certain amount of bonus stats with each level while higher professions would have various stat bonuses.

In addition to the normal stats, one would also get a number of free stats – players knew this stat very well – you could spend these stats across your own stats as you wished.

On the other hand, Ludwig knew that NPCs also got free stats, but he never understood how the stats were distributed.

Now it seems the stats would be distributed according to the needs or inner wish of the person itself.

Bran for example was a typical butler, he had a knight profession because that is the most useful early profession for families that didn't have many guards.

Having a butler who worked part time as guard was a good fit. Bran who grew up by Ludwig's grandfather's side understood this and followed suit.

With each higher stage, you could choose to change your profession to something else.

There are countless professions based on the four basic professions.

For example, the first profession level is called "Trainee", whether priest, ranger, mage or warrior. One would have to choose the path at this stage already and slowly level up.

This zeroth level is level 0 to 10, level zero is the start of everyone, common people mostly remained at this stage for their whole life.

The first real stage starts from level 11.

The stages from then on are called Bronze lvl11-20, Silver, lvl21-30, Gold lvl31-40, Platinum lvl41-50 and Diamond lvl51-60!

After there, there is a major change of power, often called "transcended" because all professions at this stage awaken a superior power that transcends human power.

The first transcendent stage was Epic lvl61-70!

There were higher stages, but no player reached them in the game…

The first version of the game only opened up level up to the gold stage, and with every 'Disaster', an additional rank was released.

In version four, the epic rank was opened, and this was the maximum of Ludwig's experience.

Ludwig's thoughts drifted around before returning back to Bran's panel – he saw that Bran had the talent Manager. Although not a rare talent, just the chance of having a talent was rare!

Most NPCs are born with fixed talent, only the most talented among them can break through and get more talents.

On the other hand, for players, gaining a talent was rather easy, as basically every hidden mission had a talent reward.

Not to mention that all players could roll talents at the start of the game.

NPCs had a difficult time to awaken talents, but they also had their unique ways of doing so – inheriting a talent was one of the most common origins of talent. You couldn't have children as a player, so naturally, you couldn't pass on your talent…

NPCs might not have a character panel like Ludwig, but they had their own way of screening for talents. People with manager talent are the most liked servants of nobles.

Thinking of talents and looking at Bran's panel, Ludwig had the urge to look at his own panel again.
