Chapter 40 – The Shadow's Realization
Zhu Zhuqing's eyes snapped open. Her body recoiled instinctively, her fingers curling into claws as she lunged at the figure sitting by the fire.
"Don't move," a calm, resonant voice commanded.
Before her claws could even bridge the gap, she felt a slight pressure on her forehead. Lakan had stopped her entire momentum with a single finger. She gasped, realizing her soul power was being suppressed by a sheer, radiant presence.
Lakan looked at her, and for a moment, he remembered the "Future" he had read about in his past life—how this cold, obsidian beauty eventually became a God, only to turn into a "NEET Gamer" who preferred the quiet solace of virtual worlds. A faint, witty smirk touched his lips. We're going to get along just fine, he thought.
In the light of the fire, her appearance was breathtaking. Zhu Zhuqing was the definition of "lethal elegance." Her long, jet-black hair flowed like silk over her shoulders, contrasting with her pale, porcelain skin. Despite her young age, she possessed a figure that was dangerously mature—curves that were accentuated by her shredded black leather suit. Her eyes, cold and cat-like, held a depth of loneliness that mirrored the dark forests she had run through. She was a masterpiece of shadow, now being bathed in Lakan's golden light.
"My sister..." she rasped, her voice trembling.
"Your sister is currently leading those assassins back to Star Luo," Lakan said, tossing a piece of wood into the fire. "She played her part well. If she didn't 'hunt' you with such ferocity, the First Prince would have sent someone who actually intended to kill you. She pushed you to the border because she wanted you to live, Zhuqing."
Zhu Zhuqing froze. The realization hit her like a physical blow. The years of hatred, the cold stares, the scars—they were all a shield. She looked down at her healed hands, the weight of the truth sinking in.
"As for your fiancé," Lakan continued, his silver sun-eyes narrowing. "Dai Mubai is in Suotuo City. If you wish to find him, I will take you there. But I warn you... the man you remember is not the man you will find."

Two days later, they arrived at the Rose Hotel in Suotuo City. Lakan didn't say a word; he simply gestured toward the lobby.
Zhu Zhuqing stood in the shadows, her heart hammering. There he was. Dai Mubai. The "Evil-Eyed White Tiger." He was laughing, his arms wrapped around two twin girls, his face flushed with the pride of a man who had spent his years in "debauchery" rather than training. He looked soft, pampered, and utterly indifferent to the life he had left behind.
The disgust that rose in Zhu Zhuqing's throat was visceral. She had crossed empires, bled, and nearly died to find him, thinking they would fight their fate together. Instead, she found a coward hiding in a bottle and the beds of common girls.
She turned back to Lakan, her eyes no longer cold, but filled with a new, burning determination. She knelt, bowing her head toward the Sovereign.
"My path with the Star Luo ends here," she whispered. "My life, my shadow... they belong to you, Sovereign."
Lakan smiled, reaching out to lift her chin. "Then let us show this world that a Shadow doesn't need a Tiger to hunt. Welcome to the Flow, Zhuqing."
