Chapter 76 - Chapter 76: Why Won’t You Listen

On the top floor business hall of the Empire Building, people screamed and shouted like restless beasts.

These well dressed social elites, these noble figures of the federal upper class, now had red eyes one by one, shouting all kinds of demands.

Only a small portion remained restrained and calm, and relying on their rich experience, they deliberately kept their distance from those who had already lost their minds.

Alex looked down. These people were panicking like ants on a hot pan.

They had already thrown away their so called manners, grace, and reason.

The scene made Alex feel amused.

Then he burst out laughing.

The huge laughter drowned out the other sounds.

Alex held his stomach as he laughed and pointed at the people below, "Protect you?"

"The moment you walked into this hall, you were already outside my protection."

"After all, you chose to support Olga Company. On what grounds do you still demand that I protect you?"

"And besides, have you forgotten who's inside those armors?"

"They're soldiers."

"They're the ones who were supposed to protect you."

"They're hostages too, just like you."

"And you actually want me to kill them."

Joel from Homeland Security was red in the face, but he still shouted, "We don't want to do this either."

"But right now, this is the most rational choice!"

"Our status and position are ten thousand times more noble and important than soldiers!"

"You can't just stand there and watch us die here."

"So kill them!"

At once, many people echoed, shouting, "Kill them!"

"Kill them!"

Right then, two golden beams shot down from above, sweeping across Joel.

Then they swept across those who had been shouting the loudest.

When the beams disappeared, those people stood still as if petrified.

But their eyeballs could still move, and terror showed in their eyes.

Then the man named Joel's head slid off at an angle. The cut was smooth, the surface charred black, the blood vessels and tissue across the entire cut had already been burned shut.

In the next second, a large number of people in the crowd fell down, all mutilated corpses.

"AHHHH!"

Screams erupted.

The noise nearly lifted the dome of the hall.

Alex looked at the corpses on the ground with indifference and said calmly, "I already said it. Don't order me."

"Why won't you listen?"

"Don't think that having power and status makes you superior. In my eyes, how are you any different from ants?"

Near the stage, a female reporter curled into a ball, tears welling in her eyes as she looked at Homelander in black above.

She whispered, "Why would Homelander do this?"

"Doesn't he care about his career?"

A male reporter beside her shook his head, "Maybe he never cared."

At that moment, Jeff's voice sounded from inside the Titan armor, ["I think I missed something."]

Alex chuckled, made a fist, rested his chin on it, and looked down at the stage below. Golden light flickered in his eyes.

"You'd better have something new."

"I'm starting to get bored."

From inside the Titan armor, Jeff's voice sounded again, ["Soon. The real show is about to begin."]

———

At the same time, above Manhattan, a bright full moon hung high in the sky.

Beneath the huge silver disc, a figure floated in the air.

A black cape fluttered behind him. Inside the black faceplate, two bright lights glowed.

Jeff, now wearing the Black Overlord armor, looked toward the Empire Building, maintaining a connection with the Titan armor while watching the Raptor armors place the vault in Times Square, known as the Crossroads of the World.

At that moment, the screens on the surrounding buildings in Times Square were broadcasting news about several bridges connecting Manhattan Island to the outside world being blown up.

Suddenly the ground shook, and many people fell to the ground.

Then they saw several silver armors carrying a huge vault land in the center of Times Square.

After that, several armors spread out, positioning themselves in the air and on the ground, standing guard.

One of them raised its wrist and fired a dazzling beam from its wrist armor.

As the beam moved, the vault was cut open.

At that moment, police sirens wailed through the square. Several police cars arrived nearby. The doors flew open, and officers rushed out.

"Hands up! Get out of the armor! Let me see your faces!"

A police captain shouted with his gun raised.

The response was a laser beam.

The captain's chest was instantly pierced by the beam. He opened his mouth and fell backward.

Immediately, the other officers opened fire on the silver armors.

The intense gunfire sent people in Times Square screaming and scattering.

Facing the attack, the Raptor armors reacted quickly.

Some fired lasers. Others flew at high speed, smashing into police officers and their cars, sending them flying a hundred meters.

Soon explosions erupted in Times Square, flames rose, and thick smoke billowed up.

A moment later, the huge vault had been completely cut open.

Inside was a device that looked like a radio transmission tower, along with several silver metal cylinders.

After dealing with the police, several Raptor armors flew into the vault.

Two silver armors worked together to lift the transmission tower device. The others divided up the silver metal cylinders.

Then flames burst from their backs, and they flew off in different directions.

Soon, the transmission tower was installed on the rooftop of the tallest building in Times Square.

Jeff, wearing the Black Overlord armor, descended from the sky and landed beside the transmission tower.

He powered it up, turned on the computer, and began operating it.

The other silver armors, carrying the metal cylinders, flew to different parts of Manhattan Island.

Some went near the arch. Some went to the port. Some headed toward Wall Street.

Then the armors placed the metal cylinders on the ground or on rooftops.

After that, they activated the cylinders, which unfolded support brackets and fixed themselves firmly in place.

While Jeff controlled the various armors and busily arranged the mysterious devices, the phone lines at the New York Police Headquarters were nearly blown up.

The relatives of the social elites and high ranking officials attending the Empire Building event, upon discovering their loved ones had been taken hostage, frantically called 911 or used their own connections and influence to pressure the police department, demanding that the hostages inside the Empire Building be rescued as soon as possible.

Police Commissioner Rowe Ford was overwhelmed with work. His roars kept echoing in his office.

But bad news kept coming one after another, driving the fifty something commissioner's blood pressure higher and higher. His face turned bright red.

"Can someone tell me what the situation is at the Empire Building right now?"

"Land routes are destroyed, so can't we use water routes?"

"And what the hell is going on in Times Square?"

"What about Homeland Security? What are they saying? This has already gone beyond what our police department can handle!"
