BWDC:SDDK Chapter 68: Why Did Your Argument Follow You Home?

Professor Agasa's Research Laboratory.

Ren Ichimonji leaned against the wall, casually tossing a tracker in his hand.

He hadn't followed Mouri Kogoro and the others to the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department. Although Ren was one of the key witnesses in this case, detectives undeniably enjoyed a collective set of privileges in this world.

Specifically, after solving a case, they only needed to provide a brief statement to the officers responsible for recording at the scene before heading home, rather than accompanying the police back to the station for formal paperwork.

While Ren was genuinely interested in the love-hate drama between Eri Kisaki and Mouri Kogoro at the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department, he had more important things to do.

Taking advantage of the fact that the Poirot Coffee Shop was closed and the Mouri Detective Agency was empty, Ren had conveniently added a small measure of "concern" to Conan's clothes.

By the time Conan changed out of his current outfit tomorrow, he would possess a wardrobe full of small blue suits, each sewn with a waterproof locator!

It was only what Conan deserved. After all, the boy wore the exact same style of clothing through all four seasons, to the point where he didn't even own a thin summer outfit. If it were a summer outfit, Ren would have had a much harder time sewing anything into such thin fabric.

"The time is now 10:23 PM."

"One hour and thirty-seven minutes until the new day," Ren muttered, tucking the tracker back into his pocket.

His gaze fell upon the computer in Professor Agasa's room—the one specifically used for programming Noah's Ark. He considered using his five-minute "Oracle" time tonight to increase the intensity of Noah's Ark's development.

Little strokes fell great oaks; perhaps by the time the Cocoon game launched, Noah's Ark would be more loyal to his name than Hiroki Sawada's.

Speaking of which, he had previously planned to have a chat with Kuroba Kaito. Whether it was Kaito's disguise techniques or his instant costume-change tricks, Ren was very interested. It just so happened that Ren held a "little" bit of information regarding Kaito's father.

He believed that the devoted son Kaito would be willing to share those techniques in exchange.

"Ren, take a look at this gadget. Do you think it'll work?"

Professor Agasa poked his head out from the research room, holding out a hang glider.

Honestly, Ren could tell at a glance that it was just a recolored version of Kaitou Kid's hang glider. The last time he had followed Agasa into the room to see the bat-themed gadgets, he had noticed the Kid-style glider and expected an explanation.

Instead, Agasa chose a palette swap over a confession. It was a move worthy of Bandai!

"As long as it works, I'm not picky," Ren replied, before asking, "Professor, how is your progress with Ms. Fusae?"

"I remember you mentioned that the person you contacted was going to arrange a 'chance' encounter for you. When is it set for? Do you need me to go along and play wingman?"

Although Ren didn't have much personal experience in romance, he had plenty of experience acting as a "bad advisor" for his "sons" back in his university dormitory.

Agasa rubbed his balding head sheepishly and replied, "I think I'll pass on that... Mr. Jack told me it would be in about a week?"

"I wonder how Mr. Jack is going to arrange it..."

As Agasa and Ren talked, the laboratory door was pushed open.

Conan entered, staring at Ren with a look of extreme disapproval. He approached aggressively and demanded, "Ren, I heard from Ms. Kuriyama that you went on a date with Ran?"

"How come I didn't know about this?"

Ren: ?

Does your IQ really drop by a hundred points the moment a romantic topic comes up?

Ren returned the look of disapproval and said, "Is it possible she was referring to today's concert at the Tokyo Budokan?"

Conan: ?

Is... is that so?

Conan froze, rubbing his chin as he thought it over.

It seemed that was indeed the case. He remembered hearing Ran mention yesterday that Ren would meet up with her first, and then they would go find Sonoko together... Dammit, the moment this topic came up, his blood rushed to his head and his intelligence just plummeted...

"Anyway, never mind that. What's the situation at the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department?"

"Did Eri Kisaki and Mouri Kogoro have a showdown in the interrogation room and then decide to take the battle back to Uncle Mouri's house?"

Ren smoothly changed the subject, asking out of curiosity.

At the mention of gossip, Professor Agasa's eyes lit up immediately. "What happened? Why would Eri and Mouri have a showdown? Did some big event happen that I don't know about?"

Seeing that even Agasa was in "gossip mode," Conan twitched his lips but ultimately succumbed to their thirst for knowledge. He sighed and recounted the events that had just unfolded at the police station.

Initially, Inspector Megure followed the standard procedure of taking the criminal in for a statement. He then asked Mouri Kogoro to wait in the interrogation room, saying he could leave once Eri Kisaki arrived to bail him out.

Shortly after, Eri arrived with Midori Kuriyama, looking formidable. She stormed into the interrogation room and immediately began a fierce critique of Mouri Kogoro regarding Ran's education.

Mouri was well-behaved at first, but eventually, he lost his temper too.

While the two were arguing, Ran came in to try and make peace. However, Eri brought up what Midori had seen at the Poirot Coffee Shop that morning, leaving Ran completely bewildered.

The chaos lasted for half an hour. Eventually, Eri felt that arguing in such a public place was losing them too much face. She told Ran and Midori to wait at the station while she dragged Mouri Kogoro back to the agency to continue the fight.

It was then that Conan heard the description from Midori. Suspecting that Ren would be at Professor Agasa's lab—just like yesterday—he headed over.

"And that's why I'm here," Conan concluded.

As for why Eri and Mouri went back to the agency to argue without taking Ran or Midori, Ren just rubbed his chin and didn't pry. He was just glad he had moved fast; it would have been incredibly awkward if Mouri and Eri had opened the door to find him just hanging out in the agency.

However, Conan then moved on to a strange sight he had seen at the police department.

"By the way, I saw a guy at the station dressed in a Sherlock Holmes cosplay."

"The way he talked reminded me a lot of how I used to be as Kudo Shinichi."

Conan said with clear annoyance, "That guy claimed to be one of the world's leading detectives. He said he turned down a request from London's Metropolitan Police to travel all the way back to Tokyo to 'save the confused officers' of our department... If I hadn't shrunk, I'd definitely have to compete with him!"
