BWDC:SDDK Chapter 59: As Everyone Knows, Robin's Defining Trait is Disobeying Orders

The outskirts, an abandoned warehouse.

Inspector Megure arrived at the scene with a contingent of officers, only to be left speechless by the sight before them.

The Inspector looked down at Satoshi Miyahara, who was sprawled on the stairs in a faint, looking like someone who had tried to bolt but failed miserably. Then, he looked up at the other kidnapper, who was sleeping as peacefully as a slaughtered pig.

At that moment, Megure gained a profound understanding of what Ren Ichimonji had mentioned over the phone.

Ren was a man of his word—when he said he'd handle criminals, he really handled them.

However, the handiwork seemed a bit heavy-handed. If these two were sent to a hospital, their injuries would likely be classified as at least third-degree minor assault, if not worse.

Inspector Megure had thoughts on the matter, but ultimately, he kept them to himself. He patted Ren Ichimonji on the shoulder and said earnestly, "Brother Ren, well done! When dealing with these cunning villains, one simply cannot afford to be soft-hearted!"

"If it weren't for you, I wouldn't have known how to wrap this up! Sigh, I really don't know how to repay you. How about I apply for a reward from the Metropolitan Police Department for you..."

Ren didn't even have the heart for pleasantries. He merely shook his head, his face as grim as still water.

"Inspector Megure, there's no need for that. I've neutralized the criminals and brought the victims out. I need you to take me back to the Tokyo Budokan immediately. I suspect there is still danger inside!"

Inspector Megure blinked. "?"

"Are you serious? Danger inside the Budokan? Really?"

"But I had officers check the place inside and out before the audience even started entering! There shouldn't be anything remotely dangerous in there."

However, Megure didn't press further. Previously, he hadn't fully trusted Ren's authority, but after seeing him charge into a kidnappers' den single-handedly, take down the thugs, and rescue the victims unharmed, he felt Ren was quite the authority indeed.

With the lives of 14,000 people at the Tokyo Budokan on the line, Megure didn't hesitate. "Understood. I'll take my men and get you all back to the Budokan right now!"

The two members of TWO-MIX, who were still shaken and had only just begun to feel safe upon seeing the police, were suddenly startled.

Minami Takayama and Shiina Nagano exchanged looks. "?"

Was this a joke? Out of the dragon's den and back into the tiger's mouth? There was danger at the Budokan too?

Conan's heart also sank. He trusted Ren; he believed Ren wouldn't be wrong about this. He immediately sped up his speech, explaining the situation regarding Satoshi Miyahara, the Enshoji Temple, and the demo tape lyrics to Inspector Megure.

Hearing this, Megure was stunned once more. So the man really was a repeat offender. No wonder he had deliberately disguised his appearance and voice to mislead the police.

But to cover up a past murder, he intended to kill even more? And he went out of his way to demand the demo tape to silence them? Wouldn't that just make the demo tape even more conspicuous and leave the crime with nowhere to hide?

Inspector Megure shook his head and stopped asking. He ordered a few nearby officers to take the suspects back to the Metropolitan Police Department first. Then, he personally stepped up, taking the driver's seat for the first time in a while.

Minami Takayama and Shiina Nagano hesitated for a moment but followed into the car. The 14,000 fans inside the Tokyo Budokan were there because of their concert; they felt an inescapable responsibility for their safety and could not run away!

As idols, they had a duty to their fans.

Conan sat between the two singers, equally tense. He looked at Ren Ichimonji sitting in the passenger seat. He had been wondering how Ren managed to find their location, but now his mind was entirely focused on the potential crisis at the Budokan.

Whatever the case, lives were at stake; everything else could wait.

As the police car sped toward the Budokan with its lights flashing, Inspector Megure suddenly asked out of curiosity, "I say, Conan, how did you know all these things?"

Conan froze. "?"

Is now really the time for that? I hate veteran officers like you who are sharp but use it in the wrong places!

Conan felt the gazes of Minami and Shiina fall on him as well. In a panic, he flailed his arms and explained loudly, "T-That... Ren-niichan told me!"

"Because... I'm Ren-niichan's Robin... haha..."

Oh no, I let it slip!

Conan's smile froze on his face.

Inspector Megure, focusing mainly on the road, added a follow-up question. "Robin? Oh, I recall. That's the superhero who always follows Batman in the comics, right?"

"Though, it seems to me you never actually listen to Brother Ren's orders. I've seen you wandering around crime scenes on your own several times."

Conan's heart skipped a beat. Wait, you noticed that? Why didn't you ever mention it before?

As Conan's mind raced for an excuse, Ren spoke in a low voice. "As everyone knows, Robin's defining trait is disobeying orders."

"As long as Conan doesn't try to 'break the Bat' to take over the mantle or start his own franchise like other Robins, I consider him the most obedient type of Robin there is."

Ren didn't even want to think about what the Batman comics had turned into. A bunch of Robins causing trouble every day—either saying Bruce wasn't fit to be Batman or trying to go solo. If he were the Batman of Gotham, he would have kicked those "miracle workers" out long ago. Or at least sent them to the Teen Titans to eat at the kids' table.

Hearing this, Inspector Megure stopped questioning. Conan breathed a sigh of relief. He hadn't expected Ren to actively cover for him in such a situation. A sense of gratitude welled up in his heart.

Even though Ren is a weirdo, he really is a good friend to have.

Outside the window, the city scenery blurred past like flickering shadows. The Tokyo Budokan was already visible in the distance.

Ren Ichimonji narrowed his eyes, a look of disapproval on his face. He planned to personally inspect the stage for any dangerous traps.

To ensure he didn't miss anything due to a lack of "Batman experience," Ren hadn't used a single minute of his "Batman State" while dealing with Miyahara and the other kidnapper. He had relied entirely on the gadgets from the utility belt.

If he had used that one minute of Batman State, he would have finished those two in a single heartbeat. There wouldn't have been any need for elaborate psychological tactics.

"I want to see what this final 1% is all about!" Ren whispered to himself.

He refused to believe that he, the Little Batman of Beika, couldn't complete this high-difficulty security mission!
