BWDC:SDDK Chapter 54: What? The One Who Kidnapped Conan is Mouri Kogoro?

"Yes... Mr. Shiina is missing. No one has seen him since last night."

"...Are there any other distinguishing features?"

Conan looked up at Takayama Minami and handed her the phone.

"Miss Takayama, could you explain the situation more clearly?"

"Eh, well..."

Although she felt it was making a mountain out of a molehill, seeing as the call was already connected, Takayama Minami chose to take the phone and discuss the unusual circumstances she and her partner were facing.

---Originally, the career and life of the duo TWO-MIX could have been described as smooth sailing.

That was until recently, during the lead-up to their upcoming concert at the Tokyo Budokan.

TWO-MIX had participated in a television program where they revealed some of the lyrics for a new song they intended to debut at the concert.

After that, the duo began to experience mysterious harassment.

Takayama Minami sighed.

"There were signs of someone picking the lock at the apartment where Shiina and I live. The drawers had been rummaged through; it was a mess."

"But nothing was missing. After reporting it, the officers investigated and didn't think it was a big deal, so they closed the case. However, I think those people are after my song, right?"

"Because just two days ago, someone made a threatening phone call telling us not to sing it."

After the song?

Far away at the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department, Inspector Megure, sitting at his workstation, was stunned.

He knew the "talents" of Beika Town covered every possible niche, but this was the first time he'd heard of someone causing trouble over an idol group's new song.

If it weren't for the fact that Takayama Minami's partner, Nagano Shiina, was indeed missing, Inspector Megure might have thought this was just a fan's prank rather than a criminal case.

He rubbed his temples and continued, "I understand. Now, let me ask—do you truly have no way of contacting Mr. Nagano Shiina at the moment?"

"If that is the case, please leave your current location. I will bring some men over to look into the situation."

"Until we arrive at the scene, please do not leave the building, Miss Takayama, to avoid any other accidents."

"If you manage to contact Mr. Nagano in the meantime, please inform the police so we don't waste extra manpower."

The call ended quickly.

After reporting her current location, Takayama Minami leaned back on the sofa and said somewhat helplessly, "Really, the concert is about to start, and now there's all this commotion."

"I hope the police investigation ends quickly..."

"Otherwise, the concert will definitely have to be postponed."

At a time like this, don't worry about the performance, okay?

Conan twitched his lips, rendered speechless.

Meanwhile, the members of the Junior Detective League asked curiously, "Are you being threatened because of the new song? What is the song like?"

Looking at the expectant eyes of Ayumi, Genta, and Mitsuhiko, Takayama Minami helplessly opened her bag, rummaged through it, and then giggled as she pulled out a tape.

She handed the tape to the Junior Detective League and said with a smile, "Why don't you listen for yourselves and find out?"

"This is a one-of-a-kind original soundtrack in the world, you know?"

The Junior Detective League gave a small cheer and immediately took out earphones from their pockets to listen.

Seeing this, Conan also plugged earphones into the player to listen to the new TWO-MIX song.

As a great detective with absolute pitch, he could easily hear the lyrics clearly.

However, Conan's attention was not on the lyrics.

He felt as though something was wrong in the restaurant—someone was watching them.

Before Conan could look around to search, the restaurant waiter called out loudly, "Is Miss Takayama in the shop? A Mr. Nagano is looking for you!"

Nagano? Isn't that Nagano Shiina?

Takayama Minami stood up and took the phone somewhat crossly, asking, "I say, why are you disappearing at a time like this?"

"Where are you? If we don't get to the Budokan soon, it'll be too late. We haven't even done the harmony rehearsal before the concert!"

On the other end of the line, Nagano Shiina's voice seemed a bit unstable as he said, "I'm in the car right outside the door. Come over with your bag now, and let's hurry back to the Budokan to practice."

"So I'm saying... don't come over. Wait, Minami, don't come over!"

Nagano Shiina hung up the phone.

His words felt like his left brain was fighting his right brain.

Takayama Minami turned her head and saw the car parked at the restaurant entrance.

If she hadn't heard wrong, Nagano Shiina should have been calling from that car.

She muttered, "At such a close distance, nothing should happen..."

Takayama Minami returned to her previous seat and said goodbye to the Junior Detective League.

She hurriedly packed her bag and immediately walked toward the car across the street.

Seeing this, Conan slowly felt a question mark pop up in his mind.

Conan: ?

When I have a question mark, it's not that I have a problem; it's that I think YOU have a problem.

Inspector Megure told you to wait in the restaurant, so why are you leaving now?

Watching Takayama Minami prepare to push the door open, Conan immediately jumped off his chair and followed her.

However, at the same moment Conan stood up, a mysterious figure wrapped tightly in a corner of the restaurant also stood up.

He followed Conan out of the restaurant.

At this moment, in the back window of the car across from the restaurant, Nagano Shiina was sitting in his seat with his eyes closed.

He looked as if he were sleeping quite peacefully.

Seeing this, Takayama Minami grew even angrier.

She pulled open the rear door, intending to scold him, only to see a handgun pointed straight at her.

"Miss Takayama, get in the car," the gunman inside said in a low voice.

At the sight of this, Takayama Minami felt a chill run down her spine.

She had thought the situation wasn't that serious and that the children were just overreacting.

But now it seemed... it was even more serious than what that kid who sounded just like her had said!

Following closely behind, Conan immediately spotted the thug in the back seat pointing a gun at Takayama Minami.

A cold glint flashed across the lenses of his glasses.

---Kidnapping someone right in front of him? Did they think his title as the Sherlock Holmes of the Heisei Era was a joke?

Conan's hand immediately pressed on his Stun-Gun Wristwatch, aiming the scope at the thug inside.

The next moment, his vision went black, and he lost all sense of his surroundings.

"Drive," a somewhat familiar voice rang out.

"Are you saying you saw someone who looked and sounded exactly like Brother Mouri knock Conan unconscious, then push him and the idol Takayama Minami into a car and drive away?"

Inspector Megure stood in the restaurant, listening to the Junior Detective League's description, looking completely bewildered.

He didn't understand.

So, Inspector Megure called the Mouri Detective Agency to confirm the situation.

This caused Mouri Kogoro, who had been drinking until he lost touch with the world, to answer the phone in a daze. In the next second, he was frightened into complete sobriety.

"Ah? I kidnapped Conan and Takayama Minami?"

"How come I didn't know about this?"

Sitting at home, and a disaster falls from the sky!

I was sleeping soundly at home; how did I become a kidnapper?

This is bad—this time I don't even have a witness for an alibi. I've really become a criminal suspect now!
