Chapter 3 - Chapter 2. Five years later

Fen Xiaojin and her master Yu Wuyan lived in the Youming mountain for five years together. She learnt many techniques and medicine from Yu Wuyan and reached the highest level of cultivation.

After the Six sigil fire line was destroyed, the city was full of rumours, different types of them. One says, Six sigil fire line was so dangerous that even plants refused to grow there and another said, that place is surrounded by soul trapping monsters, who'll kill you and will steal your soul. After these rumours got spread into different cities, people thought they were real and now, the place where once those peaceful families resided, has now become a fear in every person's heart. A fear, which cannot be vanished overnight.

During her training on Youming mountain, Fen Xiaojin learnt to control the Six sigil birth mark on her hand. Now, she can hide her birth mark and her aura because as a Six sigil fire line member, her identity can be the biggest threat to her life.

The world believed she had died with her clan.

Only the mountain and her master knew she was still alive.

And in that lonely, wind-scarred place, a girl who had buried her entire world began to become something far more dangerous than a survivor.

Outside of their stay in the Youming mountain, Fen Xiaojin was practicing martial arts with her Wuji staff. She wore plain black robes, the only colour she ever let touch her. Her hair fell down her back in an unbound river, dark as ink. No ornament, no clan sigil, no sign that she had ever belonged anywhere.

Her eyes were not the eyes of a child anymore.

They were deep, steady, and filled with a stillness that frightened even the spirits who passed through the mountain. In those five years, she had climbed what most cultivators could not in five lifetimes.

The Eternal Dao Phase.

Beneath her right sleeve, hidden against her skin, six faint lights rotated in silence, fire, water, wind, earth, sky, and something older than all of them, Void. The Six-Element Chakra. The mark the heaven had carved into her flesh the moment she was born.

The mark, she must never show anyone.

Her breathing was even, controlled, but her heart was not.

Yu Wuyan came out from the inside and smiled, "You're doing great in your martial arts."

Fen Xiaojin stopped and looked at him, "Thanks to your guidance, master."

Yu Wuyan took steps down the stairs and Fen Xiaojin asked him, "Master, have I totally recovered now?"

Yu Wuyan looked at her and said, "Yes, you've totally recovered. Which is actually good, if you pay attention to what is coming next."

She smiled, "Yes, I remember."

Yu Wuyan turned, sighed and faced the forest, "I think, this is where we part our ways."

Fen Xiaojin looked up at their stay, where she had been living for five years, after the massacre. "Seems like some things are not meant to last forever."

Yu Wuyan turned to look at her and smiled, "Yes, some things don't, materialistic things never last forever. But if it's a bond, friendship, companionship or a relationship, if they once meant something for you, that bond will always have a special place in your heart, and that will be something neither you'll be able to let go nor you want to let it go."

Fen Xiaojin smiled and knelt in front of him to bow, "Master, I'll always be grateful to you for saving me in every possible way."

Yu Wuyan chuckled, "Silly little girl, where am I going huh? I'll be here, whenever you need. Rise."

Fen Xiaojin stood up and huffed, "Master, I am not little anymore, I am 17."

Yu Wuyan laughed, "You are my disciple, of course you are little to me."

Fen Xiaojin rolled her eyes, unable to hide the smile and said, "Let's have lunch together."

Yu Wuyan laughed and both of them went inside.

Yu Wuyan sat for dinner and Fen Xiaojin served food for both of them and sat down herself as well.

Yu Wuyan picked up the chopsticks and took a bite and looked at Fen Xiaojin, "It is good."

Fen Xiaojin smiled and started eating herself as well.

While they were eating, Yu Wuyan put down her bowl and chopsticks and looked at her, "Xiaojin..."

Fen Xiaojin looked up and said, "What is it, Master?"

Yu Wuyan said, "You know....time for the phoenix selection for the celestial academy's disciple is coming soon."

Fen Xiaojin nodded, "Yes, I remember."

Yu Wuyan nodded and said, "Then you must also know, you will be selected for sure."

Fen Xiaojin nodded, "Yes."

Yu Wuyan continued, "You cannot tell anyone about me. If anyone asks you who your master is, just say he is not well known or make a fake identity."

Fen Xiaojin smiled and nodded, "Okay, I'll keep that in mind."

Yu Wuyan smiled, "Let's continue to eat before it cools down."

Fen Xiaojin nodded and they started eating.

The sunlight was filtering through the window and both of them smiled and laughed while enjoying their meal.

Both of them knew, that these peaceful and happy moments won't last long. Fen Xiaojin needs to leave that place for the sake of the world and that was actually hurting them inside, they were just not showing it.
