With that everything was decided. Eight people including three of the five jonin on the mission, Shunsui, and the remaining four who would be Nara chunin would be going out to first deal with the returning Kumo group and then infiltrate the city hospital before casting chaos there.
The rest of the platoon stayed behind to hold the southern wall and prepare for their own part of the plan which was to attack the supply warehouses.
As the group got ready to leave, Shunsui's genin team got closer and spoke to him one last time.
Genma looked at his teammate with concern in his eyes and said, "Shunsui be careful out there."
Shunsui gave him a nod of thanks and a small smile. Choza then stepped forward and gave him a strong bear hug that almost lifted him off the ground.
The large man spoke in a serious voice, "You might be a chunin now but you are still my responsibility. So do not in any circumstances die out there."
"Sensei, you might start losing weight if you worry about me this much. You should learn from Guy who has so much confidence in me." Shunsui said.
Guy flashed him a bright smile and a clear thumbs up while saying ,"Youth!!"
Shunsui gave him a return thumbs up to accept the encouragement. Mukai spoke last and simply said, "We still have a lot to drink about."
Shunsui answered with a quiet chuckle. "Well cheers to that."
The chosen group then left through the walls. With the entire side of the wall now occupied by Konoha shinobi they had the liberty to just scale up the walls to leave the city.
They moved a few kilometres away from the city in the direction from which the Kumo shinobi were going to come. The forest grew thicker as they walked and the trees gave them many places to hide.
Hiori released her special kikaichu so that the insects could hide their chakra from any sensors that might be part of the approaching Cloud squad.
The tiny bugs spread across the group and drank the small leaks of chakra that normally rose from a shinobi's body. Once the veil was in place the eight Konoha fighters settled into positions among the roots and bushes and waited without making a sound.
Chizo used his sensing skill and soon spoke, "They are here. They would reach in about two minutes. There are five of them. Three of them are jonin. But they are also carrying five injured Kumo shinobi among them. They have made up makeshift trolleys to carry them."
Shinto, who served as the leader of this smaller team, gave the next orders. "The jonin would fight the jonin. Rest of you clear the rest of them before moving in to help us. Shunsui activate Kageoni."
Shunsui nodded as he activated the Shadow Demon game. All of them became participants of the game but they did not make a move yet because they knew that the Kumo shinobi might still escape if the attack began from too far away.
They waited with weapons until the Cloud group walked fully inside the circle of Shunsui's shikai.
As soon as the enemy entered the thirty metre range everyone acted at once. Shinto rose from the shadow of one jonin and the other Naras did the same with the remaining targets.
Dark shapes lifted from the ground and locked onto arms and legs before the Cloud shinobi could react. One of the surprised Kumo fighters shouted in alarm, "Ambush!" The single word was the only warning they managed to give before the battle started between the two groups.
Kumo found itself the outnumbered side and also at a very big disadvantage because the shadows held their movements and the element of surprise belonged completely to Konoha.
Shunsui decided to join the fight against a chunin. He performed a short series of hand signs.
'Water Release: Water Forge Jutsu.' Water erupted around one of his swords and began to rotate along the blade like a living coat of liquid. He stepped forward and met the Kumo shinobi's blade.
The enemy was a swordsman and a middle aged man who clearly had much more experience than Shunsui. The two blades clashed with a sharp ring of metal. Shunsui smiled through the contact and spoke in a light tone that still carried a hint of mockery. "You smell man, well you can thank me later for the bath."
The water surrounding his sword suddenly erupted in a strong wave that swallowed the chunin and swept him off his feet. The force of the water slammed the man into a nearby tree with a heavy impact.
Before the stunned chunin could recover, Shunsui was already upon him. He used Kageoni to teleport through the man's own shadow and appeared at his side long enough to slice his neck in one clean motion. The fight ended in seconds and Shunsui turned away without looking back at the fallen enemy.
He then moved to help another Nara chunin who was keeping a second Kumo chunin busy.
The other Naras had already joined the fights to support the jonin and to prevent any of the Cloud jonin from escaping because if even one of them escaped all of their plans to recapture the city would be ruined.
Shunsui rushed at the remaining chunin and met the man's kunai with his first blade. He raised his other sword at the same time and the Kumo fighter decided to block that one with his second kunai as well.
Shunsui smiled at the choice. At the last second, like a samurai, he coated his sword with a sharp layer of chakra.
The added power made his blade cut straight through the kunai and leave the enemy's hand with only the handle.
The Kumo shinobi's eyes widened in shock as he continued to dodge Shunsui's following strikes.
But he seemed to have forgotten about the Nara that he was fighting earlier. That Nara rose from the ground behind the Cloud chunin and stabbed him cleanly through the back. The Nara then gave Shunsui a quick high five of thanks.
The two young fighters turned together to check the rest of the battle.
They saw that the Konoha jonin, while carrying a few wounds of their own, had managed to take down the three Kumo jonin.
The injured Kumo shinobi had also been killed by the other two Nara chunin.
The ambush had ended in complete success for the Shadow Platoon team. The eight Konoha shinobi stood among the quiet trees and prepared to take the new disguises they needed before returning to the city and beginning the next stage of the mission at the city hospital.
