Vaelith approached the court entrance in disguise. She had her hair tied back in a bun to hide her ears and was wearing an inspector's uniform.
She still had the cloak from earlier to hide her weapons and poison vials from onlookers.
She approached the entrance where two guards stood. "Halt," the one guard said, "What is the purpose of your visit to the courthouse?"
Vaelith looked at the guard. "Can't you see by my uniform, I'm here to inspect this courthouse under order of the crown," she said.
The two guards looked at each other confused, "We haven't received any orders of anyone coming to inspect today. I need you to show me some identification to prove what you say," the one guard said.
He reached out his hand to Vaelith. Vaelith looked around to see if there were any witnesses. "Of course. Let me grab it for you."
Guess I don't feel like talking today.
She reached into her cloak pocket and then abruptly threw a purple powder into the two guards' faces.
The guards tried to react and get their hands up to block it, but it was too late. They started to cough and began to feel weak in their legs.
"Ah. Wrong pocket," Vaelith said in a sarcastic tone before beginning to chuckle. She clapped her hands and two people appeared out of nowhere.
They grabbed the guards as they fell unconscious and took them into an alley beside the court. They then returned, in the guards' uniforms, and stood where they had been.
"Please enter ma'am," the one unnamed man said. Vaelith smiled and then proceeded to walk confidently into the courthouse.
Vaelith turned back and pulled her tongue out, in the direction of Kael, before entering. Nyssara pulled a face of disgust, but Kael remained focused on the task at hand.
"Nyssara," Kael said, "Look over there." Kael pointed to the top of the courthouse. Positioned on top were sentries to watch the surrounding area below.
"Get rid of them," Kael ordered. Nyssara nodded before slowly descending down from the roof.
She walked across the road to the courthouse and then just as she got into the blind spot of the sentry above her, she leapt into the air.
Nyssara may have been quiet and to herself when in a normal situation, but when it came to combat, her true self bared its fangs.
As the sentry on that side of the building decided to look over the edge, he saw a feline beast appear in front of him.
Before he could call out to anyone, five long sharp claws pierced his chest. They went through the metal chest plate and pierced his heart and lungs.
His mouth started to fill with blood and he couldn't breathe. All he remembered as he died were ferocious yellow eyes staring into his soul.
Nyssara pulled out of the sentry and turned her attention to the five remaining sentries. As the body of the first hit the ground Nyssara was already behind the second.
She scratched across his back, breaking his spine and leaving him paralyzed. As the other sentries turned to see what the noise was Nyssara was already a meter away from them.
She stabbed the third in the chest and ripped the head off the fourth before he could let out a scream.
She charged directly at the two remaining sentries, who were trying to run and call for help from the monster behind them.
Nyssara leapt onto the nearest sentry and ripped his throat out. As she turned to look for the last sentry, she saw him about to get to the stairs.
She tried to turn and leap as fast as possible but realised he was going to be able to alert the guards.
As she contemplated what to do, a throwing knife landed in the back of the guard's head. Nyssara turned to see where it came from.
Kael stood on the opposite roof, lowering his arm before settling back into stillness. Nyssara let out a sigh of relief before pulling the throwing knife from the guard's skull.
She stabbed the guard in the back and ruptured his heart to ensure his death. "You almost got me in trouble," she said to the dead sentry.
She then moved all the bodies out of sight and into the gutters along the edge of the courthouse.
There wasn't much Nyssara could do about the bloody mess that she had made, so she ripped off two of the sentries' shirts and started wiping up what she could.
"Humans are so weak," she said to herself and she twisted the blood-soaked shirts out into the gutters.
Kael watched from the rooftop and once he saw the sentries were down, he refocused on the court entrance.
Kael looked up into the sky to see the sun slowly dropping and getting closer to sunset.
Helmont would usually return to the courthouse in the late afternoon and at night, to discuss the slave trade with the black-market owners.
That was why Kael had decided to attack at this hour. Helmont would be alone and when the black-market owners arrived, it would be getting two birds with one stone.
As the sun lowered further Helmont arrived at the courthouse and proceeded inside, "Don't let anyone enter," he said to the guards.
Inside the courthouse Vaelith had scouted out all the entrances and exits and had even found secret passages that Helmont had most likely put in.
She analyzed everyone in the courthouse and was able to pick out the ones that were trained soldiers in disguise compared to the normal workers.
She made mental notes of every official guard as well and their posts. She snuck into the guard's weapon room, which was filled with swords, crossbows, arrows, and armour.
She smiled as she saw the pieces of equipment. She rustled through it all to see if there was anything of value.
"Tch. You would think his guards would have something special hidden here but nothing," she said to herself.
All that power, and still afraid of dirtying his own hands.
She took a vial from her waist and looked at it. The vial was filled with a green liquid that had a small black orb floating inside.
"This should work," she said to herself. She piled the armour and weaponry together before pouring the liquid over it.
The metal started to sizzle before it started to corrode, and holes started appearing on all of the equipment.
The liquid was a corrosive potion that Vaelith made herself. It would corrode and break down metals like iron and platinum, which was what soldiers mainly used in the human kingdom.
She smiled at her work, before leaving the pile of equipment to sizzle away on its own. As she left the guard's equipment room, Helmont entered the courthouse.
She glided past Helmont undetected and made her way to the exit. A guard stepped forward from his post.
"Attention everyone, the court is closing for the day. Everyone must leave now. If you still require assistance, then come back tomorrow," he announced.
Everyone started to exit, including the employees. Some were disgruntled that they had to return the next day but did not want to end up like Edravel, so they left quietly.
Vaelith walked out of the courthouse and looked in Kael's direction. She swung a key around her finger as she left and had a big smirk on her face.
Kael looked at the roof and saw Nyssara sitting on the edge waiting for a signal from Kael.
He looked down the road and saw a wagon approaching, with Brokk as the coachman and Alric in the back.
They stopped just opposite the back below Kael and waited. "It's time to eliminate the rot," Kael said to himself as he looked on at the courthouse.
