Chapter 304 - Welt: Children, You Really Asked, I Actually Strengthened It!! (Bonus Chapter)

In the heart of Arc City, the Anti-Entropy Entertainment headquarters tower.

In the president's office on the top floor, the blinds had been angled just so — blocking the direct sun without obstructing the view.

Cool air circulated silently through the spacious room.

Welt sat behind the broad mahogany desk, a fountain pen in hand.

His eyes were fixed on the final test report for Wotan's mech energy interface module lying on the desk. He tapped the edge of the page twice with his fingers, then signed his name at the bottom.

The pen clicked softly as he set it back in its holder.

Welt leaned back in his chair and pushed his glasses up the bridge of his nose.

His gaze drifted to the Star of Eden staff leaning against the edge of the desk, its dark crimson orb set into the tip.

Ever since that day in the holographic simulation pod, when the memory extraction had pushed him to the very brink of collapse, his world had changed completely.

All the pain, fear, and bitter regret buried deep in his memories had been crushed, in that purgatorial reconstruction, beneath the will of a Herrscher of Reason.

In the instant his mind broke through, he had not only unlocked the shackle on the human body known as the Genetic Lock, but had also, in a world with no Aeon watching over it, forcibly reawakened the power that belonged to a Pathstrider.

And then there was the Reversed Awakening of the Tarot card, The World.

But he understood his current condition all too well.

This body of an ordinary man was simply too frail.

The physical enhancement granted by a first-stage Genetic Lock fell nowhere near enough to support the kind of power he once wielded — reshaping terrain on a whim, conjuring armies of mechs from thin air.

If he used that power without regard for the cost, this body would disintegrate in an instant.

So for now, the Imaginary energy core that had autonomously formed through his Reversed Awakening lay quietly dormant inside the dark crimson orb of the Star of Eden staff.

This staff was, for the moment, the terminal through which his power flowed.

Welt's fingers traced along the staff's shaft.

The cold touch of metal sharpened his thoughts.

However hard the road had been, he finally had, once again, the standing to walk onto a battlefield.

He was no longer just a spectator sitting behind a screen, directing others into the fight with mere words.

Growing stronger was simply walking that same thorn-choked road all over again.

Nearly a century's worth of accumulated combat experience — that was Welt Yang's deadliest weapon.

He rose, picked up the staff, and walked out of the office.

Three floors underground: the Anti-Entropy core laboratory.

Behind the glass curtain wall, the holographic simulation device — shaped like some kind of hibernation pod — glowed a faint, ghostly blue.

Tesla stood before the control console, arms crossed.

Einstein sat beside her at the monitoring screens, a transparent recording tablet in hand.

"Too slow, Joachim!"

The moment Welt walked into the lab, Tesla let loose an exasperated shout, her red twin-tails whipping wildly with the motion.

"Ai's already finished composing everything she pulled out of your head! The simulation pod's algorithm has been running nonstop for three nights straight. What we need now is a live body in there to test the waters, and here you are dawdling!"

Welt walked up to the simulation pod and stopped.

"I was handling some paperwork that had to be signed today," he said evenly. "And besides, I'm the sole test subject for this device right now — you have to let a man prepare himself mentally."

"What's there to prepare for? It's a monster shaped out of your own memories!"

Tesla marched over and jabbed the pod's activation button herself.

"Get in already! This time we've set every parameter to the extreme — including those thick-hided Honkai Beasts from your memories!"

"You need to fight them using your current body's data, so we can precisely gather compatibility data between your Genetic Lock and this device!"

Welt didn't argue. He tightened his grip on the Star of Eden staff and lay down inside the pod, sinking into its cushion of gel.

Sensor patches were quickly attached to his temples, his carotid artery, and the major muscle groups of his limbs.

"Neural link standing by," Einstein's voice came from the console. "Heart rate normal, brainwave activity normal. Preparing to enter immersion mode."

The pod's hatch slid shut slowly, sealing away every trace of outside light.

Welt closed his eyes.

A sense of weightlessness struck him at once, followed by a faint tingle of current threading through his cerebral cortex.

"Welcome back, Mr. Welt."

Ai, Hyperion's central intelligence, spoke in her unmistakable synthetic voice, echoing beside his ear.

"Loading Data space. Target coordinates: the Siberian snowfields. Generating hostile target: the Lava Emperor."

When Welt opened his eyes again, a bone-deep wind, thick with icy flecks of snow, slammed hard into his face.

The technology reproduced even the sting of the wind scraping across skin with perfect fidelity. Had he not known for certain that he was lying inside a simulation pod, he would have sworn he'd been dropped straight back onto that battlefield of despair which had once buried countless lives.

BOOM!

Ahead of him, the snowfield erupted without warning, blasting open a crater dozens of meters across.

The snow vaporized instantly into a column of white steam that shot skyward.

Within that scalding white mist, a deep crimson shape — as vast as a mobile fortress — slowly rose to its feet.

Its outer shell looked assembled from cooling volcanic rock, seams glowing with rivers of blinding orange-red high-energy fluid.

The Lava Honkai Emperor.

Welt pushed his glasses up.

His wrist flicked.

The base of the Star of Eden staff struck the snow with a heavy thud, gouging out a deep pit.

The dark crimson orb atop the staff flared to life, radiating a light that set the nerves on edge.

In this Data space, unbound by any physical constraint, he could finally unleash — without the slightest restraint — the power that had only just reawakened within him.

No need for probing first.

"Let's use this one — call it a warm-up."

Welt raised the staff.

The gravitational field within a radius of several hundred meters twisted completely out of shape in that instant.

The snowflakes drifting down froze mid-air, as if time itself had been paused, then abruptly reversed course and shot back up toward the sky.

Amplified by the Star of Eden, Imaginary energy surged along the direction the staff pointed, transforming into several brilliant golden beams as thick as buckets, weaving together into a vast net that dropped straight down over the head of the roaring Lava Emperor as it charged.

[Edge of the Void].

The signature killing move of Welt the Nameless, from his days sailing the sea of stars.

This wasn't a simple beam-cutting technique — it exploited extreme gravitational differentials to force a spatial fault line directly through the target.

The instant the golden beams touched the Honkai Emperor's lava armor — armor that even missiles could barely pierce — there was no explosion.

A shrieking tearing sound rang out across the snowfield.

That seemingly indestructible carapace of dark crimson stone split open into gaping cracks under the absolute pull of gravity, crumbling like a fragile cracker.

Orange-red fluid gushed out from within, splattering across the snow with a furious hiss.

The Honkai Emperor let out a pained roar, its massive body thrashing violently within the gravity net.

Veins bulged along the arm Welt used to grip the staff.

He glanced at the status bar Ai had thoughtfully generated in the upper left of his vision.

The blue and red bars representing his spiritual power and stamina were plummeting at a rate terrifying enough to watch happen in real time.

"A pity. An attack of this magnitude — with a body that hasn't even fully adapted to a first-stage Genetic Lock — I can manage at most two consecutive uses."

Welt ran the numbers silently in his head.

[Edge of the Void] placed far too great a strain on the nervous system and muscle fibers.

To grow strong enough for a world about to be swallowed by apocalypse, this fragmentary power of a Path alone would never be enough.

He would have to dig far deeper into the power called [Genetic Lock].

Welt's gaze pierced through the ice and snow ahead.

Across a life so long that time itself had nearly lost meaning, he had witnessed countless systems of power.

But this [Genetic Lock] — power without ceiling, gained by shattering the genetic shackles of the human body itself — was something he had never seen nor heard of before.

"This is probably some special [meme] that got carried into this world because of Su Yu."

A flicker of understanding crossed Welt's eyes.

"It's because of his existence that this outrageous mode of evolution was able to take root and sprout on this soil."

He recalled something Su Yu had once said.

A second-stage Genetic Lock could only be forced open in combat pushed to the absolute extreme — with no way back, staring death in the face, burning through every last shred of reason to break through.

"It seems..."

Welt tightened his grip on the staff, his palm damp with sweat from the strain.

"...that in the next Rift incursion, I too will have to stand on the front line, hunting through piles of Honkai Beast corpses for a chance to break past the ceiling of this body."

A tremor across the snowfield broke his train of thought.

The Lava Honkai Emperor's outer shell had been torn open by [Edge of the Void], but Honkai energy's monstrous self-healing ability was already stitching its wounds shut at incredible speed.

It roared and forced itself bodily through a gap in the gravity net, its enormous form — radiating heat enough to obliterate everything in its path — crashing down toward Welt's position.

Facing that impact bearing down on him from point-blank range, Welt didn't retreat a single step.

The dark crimson orb atop the staff suddenly blazed with a light ten times more intense than before.

All gravity collapsed inward on that single point.

A sphere the size of a fist, absolute and utterly black, took shape above Welt's open palm.

The instant nearby light drew close to that black sphere, it warped and was swallowed whole.

[Quasi Black Hole].

Compared to the black holes he'd conjured in open space back in his prime, this one's scale and mass were laughably small — like a child's toy by comparison.

But here, in this Data space, it was more than enough to handle a single Honkai Emperor.

Welt gave his wrist a flick.

The black sphere drifted forward, weightless.

In the microsecond it made contact with the Lava Emperor—

there was no earth-shattering explosion.

Only a bloodcurdling sound of accretion.

The blazing twin blades wreathed in flame, the impenetrable lava armor, even the very sound waves of the Honkai Emperor's dying roar — all of it was pulled taut, compressed, and dragged into the ever-expanding pure black sphere.

A few seconds later—

silence settled back over the snowfield.

At the rim of the massive crater, only a few smoking black fragments remained — the sole proof that a terrifying monster had ever stood there at all.

The Synthetic Black Hole dissipated.

Welt planted the staff in the snow and caught his breath.

His calculation had been correct.

Given the right timing and positioning, a Synthetic Black Hole's power was enough to erase a Honkai Emperor instantly.

But swap the opponent for a Judgment-class Honkai Beast, or one of those Herrschers standing far above even that—

and this pocket-sized black hole's mass wouldn't come close to being enough.

The gap in combat power between a [Honkai Beast] and a [Herrscher] was never something that sheer numbers could close.

It was a fault line running straight through the laws of physics themselves.

"To forge iron, one must first be iron oneself."

Welt drew a deep breath of cold air, flecked with ice crystals.

In his past life, in the Honkai world, though he had inherited both the name and the core of a Herrscher of Reason, that body's compatibility with Honkai energy had been so poor that he'd never once managed to unleash a hundred percent of the core's power.

The core's backlash had ravaged his cells without pause, every single moment.

And yet it was precisely those near-death experiences — on hospital beds, on operating tables, gritting his teeth to rise again and again after being declared beyond saving—

that had tempered, like steel forged over and over in a blistering furnace, the terrifying resilience of spirit and force of will he now possessed.

Precisely because of that—

after he later boarded the Astral Express and became a Pathstrider, he had grown vastly stronger.

Because his foundation had been laid, brick by brick, with countless deaths.

"A pity, though."

Welt looked down at his own hands.

"This world has no Aeon, and no Path called Trailblaze to lean on."

"All I can rely on now is this core — born from a Reversed Tarot Bond Awakening, drawing power straight from the outermost branches of the Imaginary Tree."

He gazed at the red orb atop the staff.

"For now, all I can do is use it to approximate — to recreate that power as best I can."

The wind across the snowfield seemed to pick up.

Welt was about to call for Ai to end this baseline test.

In the lab, Tesla's voice, thrumming with barely restrained excitement, suddenly boomed from the sky of the entire Data space.

"Hey, hey, hey! Joachim!"

Her tone was pitched abnormally high.

"Don't think beating up one data-forged training dummy means you're done! I saw those couple of moves just now — you're not nearly satisfied yet, are you?"

At the console, Tesla watched the figure who had just hacked into the system and settled into the neighboring backup interface chair, a grin stretching nearly ear to ear.

"Perfect timing! I went all out today and brought in a top-tier gold-medal sparring partner, just for you~"

Her giddy tone practically shouted, 'Hurry up and fight already, I want to watch the fireworks.'

Welt frowned.

A gold-medal sparring partner?

Aside from the handful of researchers down here in the Anti-Entropy basement, who else could possibly patch directly into a top-secret, core-level holographic device like this?

A low hum.

Fifty meters ahead, out on the snow—

the spatial data stream twisted and reassembled violently.

Countless strings of blue code cascaded down like a waterfall.

When the code faded—

a figure had appeared there out of thin air.

He was wrapped head to toe in a loose black hooded robe.

The hood was pulled low, and across his face he wore a featureless, pure white mask — utterly blank, without a single marking.

In one hand he held an ordinary standard-issue alloy longsword, tip pointed to the ground.

The figure stood there in the wind and snow without a single telltale motion of gathering strength.

He simply raised his sword hand lazily, pointed the tip at Welt, then turned his palm upward with insufferable arrogance and crooked a finger — come here.

The sheer, unconcealed provocation in that gesture nearly spilled out across the entire Data space.

Welt pushed up his glasses, which had begun to slide.

His gaze swept up and down over the mysterious figure in black.

"Tesla," Welt said, his voice calm, though the pressure behind it over the comm channel left no room for evasion. "Who is this?"

"Oh, don't worry about who it is!"

Outside, Tesla was practically hopping with impatience.

"Consider this an unrestricted arena right now! Cut loose, throw out every black hole and every void-sundering thing you've got, and go at it with this guy properly!"

Welt didn't press for more.

If Tesla was talking like this, he'd already guessed, with fair certainty, who stood before him.

That bastard kid who'd pulled off a jaw-dropping vanishing act at the abandoned recycling plant.

He'd slipped back into home base without anyone noticing, and hacked straight into this simulation pod besides.

The kid wanted to feel out exactly where he stood now.

"Well then."

Welt's fingers slowly tightened around the grip of the staff.

The dark crimson light at the tip of the staff suddenly flared white-hot.

"Then go ahead and prepare to be torn apart, completely, by gravity."

Before he'd even finished speaking—

the snow beneath Welt's feet vaporized instantly.

He didn't reach for any of the flashy techniques that required a long charge-up.

Instead, he went straight for the purest, most lethal gravitational suppression.

The staff pointed.

Within a thirty-meter radius of the black-robed figure—

the gravitational coefficient was forcibly wrenched fifty times higher, instantly.

The air let out a teeth-grinding crack.

The snow on the ground was crushed flat into an ice sheet as hard as steel, which then caved in on itself, forming a perfectly symmetrical, massive crater.

The black-robed figure's body sank sharply, knees buckling involuntarily.

But—

just that one buckle.

The very next second—

Welt felt the gravitational field he'd applied — one powerful enough to crush a main battle tank into a pancake—

meet with a wildly unreasonable counterforce, one of the exact same nature.

It felt like forcing two supermagnets of identical polarity together.

The gravitational binding on the black-robed figure was completely canceled out, reduced to zero, in half a second flat.

He even used the residual momentum from that cancellation to leap lightly out of the massive crater, landing squarely on its rim.

The hand gripping Welt's staff went rigid for a moment.

"What—"

A flash of pure shock crossed his dark gray eyes.

In this world—

someone capable of perfectly canceling his gravitational suppression with an equally pure gravitational field, in so short a span of time—

and with that particular signature of energy fluctuation, that all-too-familiar way an Authority operated—

there was only one possible answer.

Star of Eden.

A second one.

An identical Star of Eden.

The shock in Welt's eyes faded quickly.

Soon, a smile surfaced on his face, tangled up with equal parts exasperation and fighting spirit.

"Heh."

He chuckled under his breath.

"I should've known. There's no one else who could pull off an identical ability like that except you."

Welt raised the staff once more, his gaze turning colder than the Siberian ice and snow around them.

"So you crawl back from the jaws of death without so much as a hello, and can't wait to sneak into the simulation pod to test out old Uncle Yang's strength, is that it?"

"Well, if you want to play—"

The dark crimson Imaginary energy around Welt's body surged wildly, blowing straight past the threshold of his first-stage Genetic Lock.

"Then it seems I'll have to dig out some real skill I've kept in reserve — otherwise you lawless young people really will end up looking down on me!"

BOOM!

The words had barely left his mouth when two visible, translucent ripples of gravity — like two beasts charging headlong — slammed into each other at the center of the snowfield.

There were no flashy visual effects, only the raw, ruthless crush of pure physical law.

The sky of the entire Data space seemed to tear apart.

The mutual pull of two extreme gravitational fields refracted light so severely at the center of the battlefield that it created a massive visual blind spot.

The black-robed figure — Su Yu, in truth — didn't stay put to trade attrition.

He knew perfectly well that in a straight contest of gravity-manipulation experience, he stood no chance against this old monster who'd spent a lifetime toying with black holes.

So he chose the most direct way to break the deadlock.

Close combat.

Su Yu's figure slipped through the gaps in the gravitational field like a ghost.

Spiritual power at the threshold of third-stage left not a single wasted motion in his movements.

He swung that ordinary alloy longsword through the air in sheer, screaming arcs of sword-light.

Clang!

The alloy longsword and the Star of Eden staff crashed together with tremendous force.

Sparks scattered in every direction.

Welt held the staff with one hand, blocking Su Yu's momentum-laden slash without giving an inch.

"Your angle of force is too rigid."

Welt's voice came from behind the staff.

He gave his wrist a flick, and the Star of Eden burst instantly with a force of repulsion.

Su Yu's longsword was flung violently aside.

Almost in the same instant, Welt's right leg lashed out in a precise side kick, aimed straight at Su Yu's ribs.

This was no wizard who only knew how to cast spells.

This was a veteran who had crawled through the razor's edge between life and death for over a century, whose close-combat skills were every bit as brutally refined.

Su Yu's reaction was lightning-fast.

He used the momentum from his sword being knocked aside to wrench his body around mid-air, dodging that lethal kick.

"Uncle Yang, that kick was aimed straight at killing me!"

From behind the mask came Su Yu's voice, cracking with mock complaint.

"On a battlefield, the enemy won't go easy on you just because you're wearing a white mask!"

Welt pressed the advantage relentlessly, step by step.

Every swing of the staff carried the lingering distortion of gravity in its wake.

The two of them traded blows at close quarters across a snowfield battered again and again by warping gravity, its ground now webbed with countless collapsed cracks.

The clash of sword against staff came as dense and relentless as a downpour.

Su Yu's greatest advantage lay in his higher spiritual power ceiling — third-stage spiritual power gave him the edge in reaction speed.

Welt's advantage lay in decades upon decades of brutally refined combat experience, and an exquisitely precise mastery over the Star of Eden's Authority.

He could always deflect Su Yu's fierce assaults at minimal cost, then, in that split second when Su Yu's spent momentum hadn't yet given way to fresh force, land a thoroughly infuriating gravitational tug.

Outside, in the lab—

Tesla stood before the console, eyes bulging like bells as she watched the high-pressure readings on both pods spike wildly across the screens.

"Oh my god…"

Tesla murmured to herself.

"These numbers… this neural feedback speed… the deflection angle of that gravitational field…"

She turned to look at Einstein, whose expression was equally grave.

"Birds-nest head, are you seeing this?"

"It's not just Joachim! Under that kind of high-pressure state, his precision in micromanaging gravity is actually exceeding his real-world limits!"

She pointed at the other screen, the one displaying Su Yu's data.

"And that bastard kid — what's going on with that spiritual power level of his? Last time we ran a scan, he was nowhere near this class. What in the world happened to him?!"

Inside the Data space—

the two figures separated after a violent clash, both pulling back at once.

The hand Su Yu used to grip his longsword trembled faintly.

The webbing of his thumb had split open, simulated blood streaming from the data-rendered wound.

Welt's chest heaved violently as well.

He pushed his slightly crooked glasses back into place.

Not a single patch of unbroken snow remained beneath either of their feet.

The air around them had, from the repeated wrenching of gravity, taken on a shrill, keening whine.

"Now that was satisfying."

Welt looked at the black-robed figure across from him, a genuine smile curving at the corner of his mouth.

"But let's end the feeling-out process here."

He raised the staff over his head.

"Let's settle this with a single move," Welt said, his eyes turning sharp as blades. "Let's decide it once and for all."

The black-robed figure straightened up.

He tossed aside, without a second glance, the alloy longsword now bent and dulled from the brutal clashes.

He raised his right hand — the one likewise holding a Star of Eden.

From beneath the mask came a crisp, clean answer.

"Exactly what I was hoping for."

In that moment, their two voices seemed to overlap, echoing together across the dimension-spanning Imaginary Space.

"Star of Eden—"

"Zeroth Power."

"Unleash!"

BOOOM—!!!

Two spheres of pure black, far vaster and far deeper than the one used against the Honkai Emperor earlier, took shape above their palms.

Then, with a force fit to shatter heaven and earth, they hurtled toward the very center of the battlefield.

These were two Synthetic Black Holes in the truest sense.

In the instant they collided in midair—

there was no explosion.

No light.

No sound at all.

Every scrap of environmental data — the snow's code, even the virtual sky and clouds around them—

was ground down into tiny pixel fragments beneath the two extreme devouring forces, then mercilessly drawn into the point of collision.

The enormous gravitational vortex born of that collision began pulling both Welt and Su Yu inward, even from where they stood far apart.

In the last second before total annihilation—

Welt stopped resisting.

He let his data-stream body drift toward the black hole.

His gaze cut through the warping space, settling on the black-robed figure being drawn in from the opposite side.

The wind had already torn the hood from the black-robed figure's head, and the featureless white mask had shattered under the gravitational pull into scattered fragments of code, dissolving into the wind.

That familiar face was finally revealed, unhidden at last.

Across the rim of the collapsing black hole, the two of them exchanged a smile.

Ding—!!

A long electronic chime sounded through the lab.

The indicator lights on both pods switched simultaneously from combat-red to a soft, disengagement-green.

The hatches slid open upward.

Welt ripped the sensor patches from his temples and sat up out of the gel-filled pod.

His face was pale from the intense data load his brain had just processed and expelled, but his eyes shone with an unusually bright light.

Tesla, Einstein, and a handful of researchers who'd come to watch the excitement immediately crowded around.

"So, so? How was it?" Tesla couldn't wait, tossing a dry towel straight at Welt's face. "The gravity algorithm data didn't skew off, right?"

Welt wiped his face haphazardly.

He didn't answer Tesla's question about the algorithm.

He pushed up his glasses, a few drops of gel still clinging to the lenses, and looked through the glass curtain wall toward the open backup pod next door.

"Was that him?" Welt asked, though he already knew the answer.

"Heh." Tesla planted her hands on her hips, her pretty face plastered with an expression that all but shouted, 'I saw right through it from the start.'

"Told you so. There's no way that cockroach-tough bastard kid was going to die that easily in some busted Rift."

She pursed her lips.

"He snuck in here half an hour ago. Specifically told us he still had some other business to handle first, that he'd come back later for a proper meeting with us — and went on and on about it, drilling it into us."

Tesla rolled her eyes in disdain.

"Told us not to breathe a word of it to anyone. Said he wanted to prepare a huge surprise for that white-haired girl, Kiana."

As Welt listened to Tesla's grumbling, the hand clutching the towel paused for a moment.

He glanced at the electronic clock on the wall.

"I see."

A flicker of realization crossed Welt's eyes.

So Su Yu had woken from that certain-death situation before he had, and had already made his escape one step ahead of him, no less.

"In the end, I'm still one move behind, it seems."

Welt shook his head with a wry laugh.

In truth, during that battle in the Data space just now—

Welt didn't feel he'd lost unfairly.

He might not have possessed a Eye of Deconstruction, but his keen intuition told him—

that young man's spiritual power had reached a genuinely terrifying level.

That sense of pressure, effortlessly wielded in a battle fought through consciousness itself; that absolute mastery over the micromanagement of energy—

that was probably what Su Yu had called [third-stage Genetic Lock].

Not to mention, the kid had also cultivated Tai Xu Sword Qi, a technique specifically meant to temper the spirit.

In a contest this purely about consciousness and data, Su Yu was practically a hacker running some kind of unlimited-health cheat.

Or rather—

he, Welt Yang—

with a frail body that had only just awakened a first-stage Genetic Lock, relying on that incomplete, imitation power of a Path simulated through an Imaginary core—

had gone toe-to-toe with a third-stage spiritual power freak — full meter, and shamelessly wielding a second Star of Eden besides — fighting him to a dead standstill, and forcing things into a mutually-destructive double-black-hole finish.

That, in itself, was proof enough of the terrifying depth and strength this former Herrscher of Reason still carried.

"Heh heh."

Welt tossed the towel onto the rack beside him.

"Looks like I need to get back to training in earnest, too."

His voice carried the stubborn refusal to yield that only comes from having weathered a lifetime of hardship.

"When the day Honkai truly descends finally comes, I have no intention of being left in the dust by you fast-running young people."

Welt turned and walked back toward the pod, still exhaling wisps of cold air.

"Tesla, save and back up the data we just collected, quickly."

He looked at the red-haired woman by the console.

A fire burned in his eyes, a hunger for greater strength.

"Let's continue. This time, I want to try going up against an Emperor-class Honkai Beast."
