Chapter 16 - 16) Broken Feathers (2) BONUS CHAPTER

Hawkgirl looked downwards, the ringing in her ear finally fading, replaced with a rhythmic shake. The shake got louder and louder before Hawkgirl realised it was footsteps.

Baradoosh stomped towards Hawkgirl, fitted out with reinforced riot armour and a large shock maul held in both his hands.

Behind Baradoosh, five anthropomorphic gorillas wearing their own tactical vests with strength-enhancing gauntlets, along with utility belts carrying sonic grenades.

They form a semicircle around Hawkgirl, still dazed from her fall, using her mace as a means to keep standing. Baradoosh cracks his neck and puffs out steam from his nose.

"It's nothing personal, Hawkgirl, at least not for us. It's simply business." Baradoosh announced, tapping the head of his shock maul against his hand.

"Eat shit, dickface!" Hawkgirl retaliated, spitting out blood to the side.

Hawkgirl dashes towards the outer rim. swinging her mace in a wide clearing strike. One gorilla ducks, while the other slides under. With a large barge, Baradoosh uses his shoulder plating to parry her mace, leaving her wide open.

The gorilla that slid dashed towards Hawkgirl, punching her skin with his gauntlet, making Hawkgirl drop to one knee. The other jumped towards her, hooking her across the face. Her face spun from the force, but she countered immediately. She spread her wings wide, swinging around, using them to bash one of them away. The other gorilla leapt towards her, and with an underhand throw, her mace launched into his chest and sent him into the opposing wall before recalling it to her hand.

From behind, a gorilla jumped, punching the back of her skull, making her faceplant into the ground. She got up quickly, but with a wide swing of his shock maul, Baradoosh sent her flying into the alleyway.

A gorilla charged forward. Hawkgirl swung vertically with her mace, which the gorilla sidestepped before countering with a hook to her chin. Using that momentum, Hawkgirl swiped her elbow, striking the gorilla across the face.

Hawkgirl slashed upwards with her mace; before connecting, a gorilla came flying over the other, striking her perfectly in the face and sending her tumbling backwards onto one knee.

Before she could get up, she was sent upwards with a knee to the face while the other gorilla dashed next to her, slamming her to the ground with his fist.

As the gorilla walked towards her, she threw her mace and watched as it flew past his head. Before the gorilla reached her, she recalled her mace as it slammed into the back of the gorilla's head. As the gorilla started to fall, she kicked him across the face into the side wall before getting back up to her feet.

A pair of gorillas charged towards Hawkgirl; one knelt, and the other used him as a board to jump his knee, colliding with Hawkgirl's face. The other continued its charge, grabbing onto her leg to push her down.

Hawkgirl spread her wings, putting the gorilla's attempt to a halt. She lifted her hands and clasped them together, slamming them down into his back. The other gorilla dashed to protect his friend before being slammed against the wall with Hawkgirl's wing.

Baradoosh charged forward, crashing into Hawkgirl and sending her flying into a car outside the alley.

Coming from her side came a gorilla; Hawkgirl swung her mace, directing it towards its face. The gorilla raised its hand, blocking the strike with its gauntlet, but the force was too powerful, and its feet scratched across the floor. As he finally stopped, he lunged forward, landing a punch directly on her torso, sending her flying into a bus stop.

She slowly got back up, blood flowing out of her nose and dripping from her helmet.

Baradoosh didn't waste any time and started to charge again towards Hawkgirl, who just in time rolled out of the way. Baradoosh left destruction in his path, breaking through the entire bus stop and sending the car in front flying into the air, a loud crash being heard only moments later.

Hawkgirl dashed towards Baradoosh, swinging her mace. With ease, Baradoosh grabbed her wrist, stopping the attack before slamming his shock maul into her hip, with the sound of her ribs cracking.

"For a legendary warrior, this is pathetic." Baradoosh taunted.

"Fuck you!" she screamed at Baradoosh, responding with a headbutt.

Baradoosh steps back, holding his now bloody nose, swinging his shock maul downwards. Hawkgirl spread her wings over herself, bouncing the maul away. She swung her mace sideways, Baradoosh barely catching it before it struck him. Hawkgirl grabbed the nearby streetlight and ripped it off the ground, swinging it across Baradoosh's face, heavily denting the streetpole.

A gorilla sprinted towards Hawkgirl. She quickly turned around and swung her mace, hitting a fire hydrant like a baseball, and with a perfect strike, the gorilla collapsed to the ground.

Sliding across the roof of the car next to her, the gorilla kicked Hawkgirl across her chin. As the gorilla landed on the ground with one powerful kick, she sent him crashing through the car, unconscious on the floor in a bed of shattered glass.

Every move she makes is now costing her heavily. She's exhausted, breathing hard and heavily. The blood from her nose was a mix of new and dried.

From behind, Baradoosh grabbed Hawkgirl by the throat, lifting her off the ground with ease. Her mace drops to the floor. She claws at his grip as she chokes, trying to get even an ounce of air while her vision starts to fade.

Just before he can crush her windpipe, a plasma shot scorches the pavement next to Baradoosh.

Satanna walked towards Baradoosh with elegance. She was calm and smiling, gesturing at Baradoosh to release his grip.

"Be grateful he wants you for himself," Baradoosh exclaims, releasing his grip.

Hawkgirl instantly grabbed her mace, preparing to fight again as Satanna slowly clapped towards her grit.

"I must say it was a fine performance; you put up quite the fight against my friends here, but I can't figure out why, out of every hero, he chose you. He could've chosen anyone he wanted, but he wanted to play with you."

"How am I supposed to know why he chose me? I didn't exactly ask to be picked!" retorted Hawkgirl, spitting out more blood.

"Still a fiery spirit, I see, but what is a hawk without its wings? You know he predicted this. He knew you would be on your final leg around this time," Satanna replied.

"Where is he!?" Hawkgirl screamed, a snarl on her face.

Satanna's smile widened. "Oh, he's busy, dear. After all, someone needs to entertain the audience." She gestured at the city. The loud sirens and smoke from the explosions are still flowing through the wind.

Satanna removed her coat, all lady-like, revealing a belt of sonic grenades and her plasma gun humming.

"Everyone back away; let me have a try at our little birdie here," Satanna ordered. She wants Hawkgirl all to herself now.

Hawkgirl forces herself upright, barely steady.

"Let's see how much fight a poor little bird has left now it's faced with a feline," she mocked, licking her claws.
