Chapter 4 - Chapter Four- Silver Eyes in the Shadows

The palace stirred with the first rays of dawn, golden light spilling across marble floors. Most omegas were still asleep, their chores scheduled later. The Alpha moved silently through the corridors, a predator in human form, senses alert to every movement.

His silver eyes swept the hallways, measuring, calculating. Every footstep, every whisper, every breath, it all carried meaning. One omega, in particular, had caught his attention.

Lyra.

He had dismissed her publicly, made his decision clear, yet something about her defiance lingered in his mind like a thorn. She had not begged, had not cowered, had not broken. Instead, she had stared back, sharp and unyielding, and the thread that bound them… flickered.

A low hum of instinct stirred in him. The bond was subtle, barely awake, but it whispered against his senses, tugging at him in ways he could not ignore.

She is strong. Stronger than I anticipated.

He lingered near the central hall, pretending to inspect a tapestry while his eyes followed her. Lyra moved quietly, blending with the omegas, yet her presence was impossible to ignore. Even without overt power, she carried a subtle fire, a defiance that made her unpredictable.

He noted the slight tension in her shoulders, the careful way she adjusted to avoid notice, the tiny flush on her cheeks as she passed her friends. The bond stirs, he thought, tracing it like a faint thread of heat.

The Alpha's wolf growled low in his chest, mirroring his own awareness. She is awake. She feels it.

He did not move closer, did not confront her yet. Patience was a weapon. Observation, a sharper one. Let her reveal herself. Let her grow… and let the thread pull harder before she even realizes it.

As he walked past servants and omegas carrying buckets and brooms, his eyes never left Lyra. Every motion she made was a calculation, every glance toward Aria and Finn a clue.

She was hiding something.

Training, he guessed. The way she carried herself, the subtle tension in her movements, the precision in her steps.

He allowed himself a small, controlled smile. Bold. Defiant. Smart. Dangerous.

The Alpha adjusted his cloak, walking past the corridor where she had been, careful to remain unseen, yet deliberately leaving a faint trace of his presence. He wanted her to sense him, wanted the pull of the bond to whisper against her nerves, wanted her to feel his awareness without fully understanding why.

Patience, he reminded himself. She will rise, and when she does, I will be ready.

His silver eyes lingered on a shadow slipping into a quiet alcove, the corner where she would always hide, train, and prepare. A faint pull of the thread tugged against him, subtle but undeniable.

So, the bond begins to stir. And she has no idea.

A soft sigh escaped him, almost involuntarily. Lyra was clever, stronger than expected, and her defiance… it intrigued him more than he would admit.

The Alpha's wolf rumbled low, mirroring his thoughts. Careful. Do not overstep. But do not ignore her. She is part of this palace's future—and mine.

He moved on, leaving Lyra unaware, her training undisturbed, for now. Yet the Alpha knew one thing with absolute certainty:

She was rising.

And the thread between them would not stay dormant for long.

Patience was his, but curiosity… curiosity was a fire he could not fully extinguish.
