Chapter 7: How Power Is Measured in
Ash
Morning in Bhasmanagar began with bells.
Not temple bells.
Warning bells.
Because in this world, sunrise meant
creatures moved.
The eastern watchtower rang three times, slow and heavy. Smoke rose from the outer
ruins where the old market once stood. A
demon beast had crossed the boundary line
during the night. Parashuram stood on the broken wall, looking over the city
Below him, people were already awake.
Merchants rolled wooden carts. Beastkin
carried water from the underground wells.
Blacksmiths reopened their forges using demon bones as fuel. Children practiced basic Prana breathing taught by monks from the ruined Ashvattha shrine.
This was how life continued
Not in peace.
In preparation.
The Three Forces Inside an abandoned hall that once served as a court, Parashuram drew three circles in ash the stone floor.
"This world is sustained by three forces," he
said
He pointed to the first.
Prana.
The force of life. Used by healers, monks, beastkin, and those who mend rather than destroy.
Second circle.
Manas.
The force of thought. Used by sages,
Illusionists, scholars, and those who reshape reality through knowledge
Third circle,
Rudra.
The force of destruction. Used by warriors,
denon lords, gods, and anything bom for
conflict.
"Most beings can awaken one," Parashuram
continued.
"Some rare ones awaken two."
"Those who touch all three are either saints...
or disasters."
Kälavajra looked at the circles.
*...Which one do I use?"
Parashuram studied him for a long moment.
"You don't draw from any of them."
Silence filled the hall.
Ishira frowned. "Then how is he fighting?"
Parashuram replied slowly, choosing each
word.
"He doesn't borrow power.
He imposes intent."
Training Without Mercy
Parashuram did not teach techniques first.
He taught stance.
"Stand as if the world is trying to erase you."
Kälavajra tried.
He fell
Again.
Parashuram struck him on the ribs.
Not to injure
To destabilize.
"You fight like someone who expects to
survive."
Kälavajra coughed, forcing himself up.
"In this world," Parashuram said quietly,
"you fight like someone who has already died."
From that day onward, Kälavajra stopped
training to win.
He trained to endure.
The Caravan
To survive, Bhasmanagar needed supplies.
Medicine,
Soul crystals
Demon organs
So they joined a small caravan heading
toward Rudrakant Forest, a mana saturated
zone where demon beasts nested.
The caravan consisted of
A dwarf engineer named Korrin, who built
weapons from demon bones.
Two beastkin scouts from the eastern plains.
Three human mercenaries.
And one old man who walked with a wooden
staff and never spoke unless spoken to.
No one asked his name.
He helped carry wounded people.
That was enough.
Rudrakant Forest
The air changed as soon as they entered.
Heavy
Dense
Mana pressure pressed against their lungs.
The scouts raised their hands.
Something was wrong
The ground moved.
Then it broke
Bone insects erupted from beneath the soil..
Hundreds. Thousands. Demon-class swarm.
They devoured everything.
One mercenary was pulled down screaming
as insects crawled into his mouth and eyes.
Korrin lost both arms trying to shield a child.
One beastkin ignited his own Rudra to burn
the swarm around him.
He didn't survive.
Ishira rushed forward to heal-
A demon beast lunged and bit through her
shoulder.
Blood sprayed across the roots.
Kalavajra froze.
His breathing stopped.
Not from fear.
From overload.
This wasn't battle.
This was extinction.
Then something inside him shifted.
Not anger,
Not power.
Intent.
His body moved.
Spear pierced one.
Then another.
Then ten
His movements were silent.
Precise.
Wrong.
Parashuram watched.
The forest itself recoiled.
By the time it ended, the ground was layered
with black husks.
Half the caravan was dead.
The forest was silent again.
Aftermath
Ishira survived.
Barely.
Kälavajra sat beside the corpses long after
the others left.
Hands shaking
"I killed them," he whispered.
Parashuram corrected him.
"No."
"They died because the world exists"
That night, Kälavajra did not eat.
Did not sleep
He stared at his spear..
Thin cracks had formed along its surface.
Not physical.
Something deeper
Something conceptual.
It had wounded demon flesh.
Something it should not have been able to do.
Far Away Naraka
In the throne realm of obsidian and bone,
Kalantaka opened his eyes.
A faint burning sensation spread across his
chest
A small scar remained,
Not healing.
Not fading.
He touched it slowly.
"...Interesting."
End of Chapter
That night, Ishira whispered to Kälavajra while:
treating her wound.
"Do you regret saving me?"
He answered honestly..
"No."
"But I think..."
I regret this world"
Parashuram stood outside the ruined hall,
staring at the burning horizon.
And for the first time since awakening-
He realized the one who would end this era...
Would not be a god.
Would not be a demon.
It would be someone who hated the world
enough to reshape it.
