Chapter 4 - Wizard Academy

Li Xi had no doubt that if he answered even slightly incorrectly, repercussions he did not want to see would absolutely appear.

Hundreds of questions in a row made Li Xi, whose nerves were taut, exude a cold sweat as he answered. He hadn't expected these beings to know so much about Earth. There were even some detailed questions that he wasn't clear on; he could only search his memory like a drowning man clutching at a straw.

"I am very satisfied with your answers."

Finally, the interrogation ceased. Li Xi cautiously let out a long breath. But as his mind slightly relaxed, a beam of light shot from the Wizard's hand, hitting his forehead. A torrential surge of memory violently rushed into his consciousness. Li Xi's eyes instantly rolled back, his body convulsing as he helplessly received the implanted data.

The two Wizards watched the twitching Li Xi with an apathetic gaze. They perched calmly, but the volatile energy fluctuations around them spoke of their private communication. It was just that Li Xi couldn't see it, and even if he could, he wouldn't know what it signified.

"Hoo."

Li Xi gasped for air, trying to forcibly suppress the wave-like tremor in his heart. These forcibly implanted memories included an introduction to this extraplanar place and the reason for Earth's metamorphosis. They gave him a simple explanation of what happened, along with the written language system of this world, so Li Xi could now communicate fluently.

The dimension he was currently in was called the Wizard World. These were a group of beings who had pushed power to its zenith, terrifying life forms that could navigate the Universe and tear through the starry sky! Earth was torn apart simply because of an accident.

Space is not static; it behaves like the surface of a sea, sometimes with tides rising thousands of meters high. The Wizard World—inscrutable to Earth humans—possessed a mass infinitely large. One day, the space between the two experienced a tidal effect and reached a trough.

The Wizard World, in a draconian and unreasonable manner, tore apart space. The shallow space barrier was unable to withstand its mass and was ripped open, causing the two worlds to converge. Earth was like an ant facing Mars, powerless to resist. Earth was directly torn into fragments by the powerful gravity, its doomsday occurring with no subjective premeditation. It was not the first planet to be captured, nor would it be the last.

"You probably understand the situation now, right?" the Wizard asked.

"Respected Lord Wizards, I understand," Li Xi answered. He knew Wizards were beings who could destroy worlds with two words. Saving half of Earth's life was merely for the sake of promoting diversity—Wizards view low-level life forms as slaves.

Li Xi was supposed to be a sacrifice for that Apprentice in the basement—a quotidian occurrence in this world. But unexpectedly, an extraplanar power was transmitted to Li Xi through a temporary Space Channel. He had evolved into a higher life form with the potential for further growth, changing his situation from a lamb to the slaughter to one who could resist his quagmire.

It's just that he didn't think this coincidence would attract two Formal Wizards. There are as many evolved life forms in the Wizard World as motes of sand in a desert.

"Just one day ago," the Wizard explained, "the great Purple Flame Saint Mark Wizard decreed a Saint Mark. Because of your people's intellectual development, you have been granted the rights of second-class native residents. You shall not be used as slaves."

Li Xi almost burst into tears of joy. He had survived by the skin of his teeth.

"Other humans will soon be arranged into new towns. As for you, we have determined you are not contaminated. You can stay at Purple Flame Academy and choose to become a Wizard, or leave for a new town. The choice is yours."

Li Xi knew that "judgment" was the interrogation he just endured. If he had been slow to answer, he would have faced a lightning strike. He realized the Wizard must have used a mechanism he didn't understand to gain knowledge of Earth. It was terrifying!

"I...."

Every time Li Xi opened his mouth to say he didn't want to stay, he saw the Wizard opposite him gently stroking his staff. That gaze reminded Li Xi of a cold knife at his throat.

"I choose to stay at the Academy and become a great Wizard!" he shouted with the speed of someone yelling for help. After shouting, Li Xi was almost spent. He could feel the threat of death receding.
