Chapter 34 - Chapter 34: Loki’s Second-Rate Magic? Not Worth a Hit!

Karl's appearance caused major changes in the Battle of New York.

For one thing—

The Chitauri Leviathans destroyed by Karl alone numbered in the dozens.

Even in the Chitauri's hands, there weren't that many of those warships to begin with.

Losing dozens in one go made the Chitauri hurt badly.

Because of that, the Chitauri commander aboard the Chitauri Mothership refused to accept it.

He was furious.

"Damn it! Why would a weak fringe planet have something like this?"

"Any one of them is probably on the level of the Black Order."

The Chitauri commander couldn't help but curse viciously.

Not to mention that monster who wiped out dozens of starships alone—

Even the Avengers seemed to have the strength of the Black Order.

How were they supposed to fight this?

"That damned bug Loki—an idiot—he didn't provide a shred of intelligence!"

"What use is he, exactly?!"

The Chitauri commander raged again.

But soon, he forced his anger down.

Rage was useless.

Then he opened a direct link to Loki.

Loki's image appeared on the comms.

"Loki, our deal has a problem."

"A powerhouse is blocking our army. You need to go kill him," the Chitauri commander said.

"That's not what we agreed on."

"That's your problem."

"I'm responsible for opening the Portal. You're responsible for occupying Earth."

"If you can't do it, that's on you."

"And I think that 'someone' wouldn't like seeing this happen."

A sly, malicious smile curled at Loki's lips—pure schadenfreude.

The Chitauri commander's anger surged, but he kept it from boiling over.

"What will it take for you to act?"

"Aren't you the so-called greatest sorcerer of the Nine Realms? Why are you cowering in front of an Earth sorcerer?!"

The Chitauri commander provoked him deliberately.

"I am the greatest sorcerer of the Nine Realms! No one can call themselves a sorcerer in front of me!"

"I am a god! I fear no one!"

Loki exploded with fury.

"Then what are you waiting for? Move!" the Chitauri commander coaxed.

The Loki who'd been raging a moment ago suddenly wore that same sly smile again.

"Do you take me for a fool?"

"Your problem—why should I solve it?"

"If you want me to act, fine. I want eighty percent of the spoils afterward."

"And you're going to pull the Avengers away no matter the cost. I'm not interested in being attacked from both sides."

At last, Loki showed his truly vicious face.

"Eighty percent? You're insane!"

"And you want us to draw the enemy off—then what do we need you for?!"

The Chitauri commander snapped.

"Are you agreeing or not?" Loki said coldly.

The commander's expression shifted again and again.

Only after a long while did he speak.

"Fine. You win. Deal."

He cut the connection immediately.

After the comms ended, a cold smile appeared on his face.

"Just a pawn…"

Two blossoms bloom—let's speak of the other branch.

Loki had no idea there were so many schemes aimed at him.

Feeling pleased that his calculation had worked, Loki was smug.

Then his expression turned hard.

"Hmph. Someone dares call himself a sorcerer in front of me? I want to see who it is!"

With a cold laugh, Loki piloted a Chitauri aircraft toward the battlefield.

Very soon,

he saw Karl unleashing attacks.

The Eldritch Whip in Karl's hand was like a world-ending lash.

One crack—and dozens of Chitauri fell.

Loki's heart jolted.

"How is the power this strong? Is this guy really a sorcerer?"

"So there really are sorcerers on Earth…"

Loki watched with his scalp tingling. This magic looked even more terrifying than Asgardian magic—by more than just a little.

Fortunately,

Loki loved to shout that he was a sorcerer, but in truth he was more of a spellblade—half sorcerer, half assassin.

The magic he mastered was mostly support-oriented; it really wasn't as good as his two daggers.

At the very least, his daggers could break through Thor's defenses.

So at this moment, Loki's thoughts raced.

If that guy really was a sorcerer, then this would be easy.

Loki licked his lips and waited for the right moment.

And sure enough, the Chitauri also kept their word.

Large numbers of Chitauri troops appeared and directly lured several members of the Avengers away.

Only Karl was left, cleaning up fodder soldiers by himself.

"The chance is here!"

Loki's eyes lit up, and his entire body vanished into thin air.

This was Loki's strongest ability: invisibility.

Even an existence as powerful as Odin found it hard to guard against, which showed just how formidable this ability was.

Loki quietly relied on this ability to slip right up close to Karl.

Once he was within a certain distance, excitement filled Loki's face.

With his daggers in hand, he stabbed straight at Karl.

But then he saw—

Karl, as if he had foreseen it, turned around directly.

He smiled at Loki.

Both hands shot out, and in an instant he clamped Loki's two daggers between his hands!

"What?! That's impossible!"

Loki's face changed drastically.

Even Thor couldn't evade his ambush—how did this guy notice?

"What's impossible?"

"I noticed you a long time ago."

"Did you think the sorcerers of Kamar-Taj are as fake as a 'sorcerer' like you?"

Karl laughed.

Loki's invisibility really was impressive.

Unfortunately for him, he didn't understand space at all.

Before space, nothing could hide.

Loki's movements were as conspicuous as the sun in the dead of night. Karl had noticed him ages ago.

He just hadn't expected this guy to actually dare to ambush him.

As he spoke, Karl swung his palm and slapped Loki away.

At this moment,

Loki still wore a look of disbelief.

Why?

Why had his magic been seen through?

How was this possible?

He was just a mere Earth sorcerer—how could he possibly pierce Loki's invisibility?!

Loki grit his teeth.

He left an illusion behind on the spot, and once again quietly circled to Karl's back, trying to ambush him.

However—

Karl didn't feel like playing with him anymore.

He spun around and drove a fist into him.

Loki flew dozens of meters away.

"Damn it! Impossible! A mere mortal!"

"A mere mortal—how could you see through my magic?!"

Loki screamed in disbelief.

The few sorcerers nearby looked at him as if he were an idiot.

This kid—

Had he gone stupid?

How abnormal was Karl?

This was someone who could rival a Master Sorcerer.

Noticing you—wasn't that perfectly normal?

And yet he was still shouting like this. It was ridiculous.
