Chapter 42 - her mood swings

Jay's mood swings that day were off the charts.

From the moment she woke up, the mansion seemed to sense her unpredictability. One second she was smiling and humming quietly, the next she was pouting, frowning, or sulking over the tiniest thing.

Keifer, of course, followed her around like a mischievous guardian angel—teasing, holding, and taking care of her every step of the way. But today, her sulks had a dangerous streak.

It started at breakfast.

Jay poked at her toast, scowling. "You didn't pour my tea right," she complained, eyes narrowing at him.

Keifer laughed lightly. "I poured it exactly the same way I always do."

"I don't care! Today it's wrong," she sulked, arms crossed.

He smirked. "You're dramatic."

"I am not!" she shot back, glaring. "You don't understand me!"

Keifer leaned closer, lowering his voice teasingly. "Oh, I understand perfectly. You want me to fix everything for you, don't you?"

Jay's cheeks flared pink. "I might want that!"

He chuckled and brushed a kiss across her temple. "It's done. Tea is perfect. Mood improved?"

She huffed. "Not yet!"

By mid-morning, the sulks had escalated.

Jay leaned against the doorframe of the living room, arms crossed. "So… if you didn't meet me, I bet you'd be doing all these things for some other girl," she muttered, a pout tugging at her lips.

Keifer froze mid-step, raising a brow. "Some other girl?"

"Yes! Don't look at me like that!" she snapped, shoving his shoulder lightly. "I just… I just… I can't believe you're this perfect and you only gave it to me now!"

He laughed—a low, teasing chuckle that made her cheeks heat up. "Jay… only you. Always you."

Her arms tightened around herself. "Promise?" she asked, biting her lower lip. "I mean… if you ever think about anyone else… I'll sulk forever!"

"I'll take that risk," he teased, leaning in to kiss her softly. "But you're mine. No one else."

Jay's pout deepened. "You better mean that! Because I'll make you pay if I ever see a hint of attention for someone else. You'll regret it!"

Keifer laughed, brushing her hair back and pressing a soft kiss on her nose. "You're impossible."

"And you love it!" she shot back, trying to glare but failing miserably as her lips twitched into a small smile.

By afternoon, her sulking got more… creative.

She refused to talk to him unless he called her "Princess."

She deliberately took longer walks around the mansion just to see if he would chase her.

She sulked silently in the kitchen, arms crossed over her chest, while he offered chocolate, then teased, "You look better when you smile."

She stormed into the study when he tried to hand her files, saying, "I don't want your help today!" only to peek and notice him grinning behind his papers.

She deliberately dropped her pen on the floor, making him bend awkwardly to pick it up, then glared, "I didn't mean to!"

Through it all, Keifer never left her side. He teased gently, laughed, kissed, and whispered low reassurances—never breaking her fragile moods, only wrapping them in warmth and care.

Even later, when she flopped onto the couch dramatically, pouting, Keifer knelt beside her.

"So… if I ever disappear," Jay whispered, voice soft but suspicious, "you'd find someone else to take care of? Someone else to tease, to kiss, to…" She trailed off, flustered.

Keifer leaned closer, brushing her cheek. "I won't do anything for anyone else, Jay. Only you. Ever. Got it?"

Jay's eyes glistened with a mix of frustration and relief. "You better! Or else…" she said dramatically, hands on her hips.

Keifer chuckled and lowered his lips to hers, pressing a soft, teasing kiss. "Or else what?"

She pressed her forehead to his. "Or else… I'll sulk for the rest of my life!"

"I'll survive," he whispered, laughing softly. "As long as I get to kiss you through it all."

Her pout softened, but her eyes still sparkled with mischief.

"I'm never letting you forget this," she muttered.

"Please don't," he said, wrapping his arms around her. "It's adorable."

Jay leaned into him, finally letting herself relax. Her sulks, her pouts, her tiny jealous thoughts—all of them melted away in his arms, replaced by the warmth and safety only he could give.

And Keifer, as always, stayed right there, teasing, protecting, loving… utterly devoted to her, only her.
