Chapter 24 - The Origin of a Hero

Silence returned to the arena, which had been transformed into a desolate wasteland of jagged ice, but it was a heavy silence, charged with the sickening sound of breaking bones and the hiss of frost covering everything. Izuku Midoriya stood with agonizing difficulty, his knees trembling from exhaustion and pain, his broken fingers colored a grim shade of dark purple and black—a testament to the immense sacrifice he was making just to stay in the battle. Opposite him, Shoto Todoroki still stood, but his "armor" of ice had begun to weigh him down, turning into a freezing cage. Frost completely covered his right side, his white hair was dusted with snow, his movements had become noticeably slow and heavy, and his breath escaped as thick white plumes in the freezing air.

In the front rows of the stands, Madara sat in the posture of an expert observer, chin resting on his hand, his obsidian eyes tracking every tremor in Todoroki's body. He didn't just see a match between two students; he saw an internal conflict tearing a soul apart. (He has reached his absolute limit,) Madara analyzed coldly. (The cold is eating his bones, and his mind rejects the only solution available to him. He is slowly committing suicide in the name of pride, but I see the spark... it is there, buried beneath layers of ice and hatred.)

Todoroki lunged again, sending a wave of ice that was much slower and weaker than his previous attacks, his body screaming for heat. He stopped suddenly, his left hand rising involuntarily toward his scarred face, as if his body were trying to ignite the fire against his will to save his life, but his mind suppressed it at the last second.

"Why... why won't you give up?" Todoroki shouted, his voice trembling, tears freezing on his cheeks. "You are completely broken! Why go this far for me?"

Midoriya countered the attack with his head—literally headbutting the ice—blood streaming down his forehead and mixing with sweat. He screamed with a torn voice that pierced the frost of the stadium and reached the depths of Todoroki's soul:

"Because I want to be a hero! Everyone here is giving their absolute best to achieve their dreams... and you're still joking around with half your power! You haven't even scratched me yet! I am still standing!"

Todoroki froze in place. The words hit him harder than any punch. Memories of his painful childhood, his mother's sad face, and his father's cruelty all swirled in a mental storm. The cold was beginning to physically paralyze his limbs, and his vision began to blur.

"I... I reject his power..." Todoroki whispered, his voice vanishing in the wind.

"It's not his power!" Midoriya screamed, tears pouring from his eyes, refusing to watch his opponent die from the inside out. "It's YOUR power!!"

Those words were the key that shattered the shackles. Todoroki suddenly remembered an old scene, a warm voice amidst the hell, his mother's voice saying: "It's okay to be a hero... You are not a prisoner of his blood. Become who you want to be."

Suddenly, the air pressure in the stadium changed violently.

FOOOOOM!

A massive pillar of fire erupted from Todoroki's left side. It wasn't normal fire; it was a torrential flood of red and orange flames that melted the accumulated ice in a single second, turning the freezing arena into a boiling oven. Thick steam rose to cover the sky, and the heat reached even the upper stands, forcing the audience to shield their faces.

In that moment, while the crowd screamed in awe and Endeavor roared with manic joy from his seat ("SHOTO! Finally!"), there was only one person smiling a calm, satisfied, and terrifying smile.

Madara Uchiha.

Madara closed his eyes, enjoying the blast of scorching heat that hit his face, inhaling the scent of burning as if it were a fine perfume.

(Finally...) Madara thought, satisfaction filling his dark heart. (The dragon has awakened. That heat... that raw anger... Now you are no longer a cold, boring statue. Now you are worthy of being my prey. Burn everything, Shoto, and let me see how bright you shine before I extinguish you.)

The two collided in a final explosion that shook the foundations of U.A. High. "One For All" against "Fire and Ice." Cementoss and Midnight intervened at the last second with cement walls and somnambulist gas to prevent a catastrophe, but the explosion was too powerful to be fully contained.

When the dust settled and the steam faded, Midoriya was lying out of bounds, unconscious, his body shattered, but with a smile of relief on his face. And Todoroki stood inside the ring, half his costume completely burned away, panting heavily, his heterochromatic eyes burning with new life and a different self-awareness.

After a mandatory break to repair the destroyed arena and repour the concrete floor, it was time for the second match of the Quarter-Finals. The match everyone was waiting for, to see how the "Monster" would deal with "Speed."

Madara Uchiha VS Tenya Iida.

Iida entered the ring knowing the mission was nearly impossible. He had seen what Madara did to Monoma, he had seen his fire in the race, and he had seen how he spoke with the confidence of a warlord.

(I cannot match him in power, nor in destruction,) Iida thought, adjusting his engines and tightening his leg muscles. (My only chance, my only hope, is blinding speed. I must knock him out of the ring before he blinks, before he thinks about using his fire. One knockout blow at maximum velocity is my ticket to win.)

"START!"

Iida didn't wait a single moment to test the waters.

"RECIPRO BURST!"

Iida detonated his engines to their absolute limit from the very first second. The exhaust pipes on his legs turned red hot, and he vanished from sight completely, turning into a blurred blue line of pure speed. He launched himself at Madara like a human missile, aiming a super-powered engine kick directly at Madara's chest to push him out of the ring with sheer momentum.

The audience gasped as one. "Too fast! He can't be seen!"

But Madara didn't dodge. He didn't move from his spot. He didn't even raise his arms to defend in the first instant.

In the fraction of a second before impact, Madara focused Chakra into the soles of his feet. He condensed his spiritual and physical energy, binding it to the concrete floor as if invisible steel roots had sprouted from his feet and anchored him deep into the earth, turning his body into an immovable stake.

BAAAAAM!

Iida's supersonic kick collided with Madara's cross-guard arms, which he raised at the very last microsecond.

The force was immense; the air exploded around them, and the ground beneath Madara's feet cracked and shattered in a wide circle, gravel scattering everywhere.

But... Madara didn't budge a single millimeter. He didn't slide back. He didn't fly into the air as everyone expected.

Iida's eyes widened behind his glasses in terror and shock. (Impossible! With my maximum momentum... he should have flown into the stands! It's like kicking a mountain! How can a human absorb this momentum without moving?)

"Good speed..." Madara whispered from behind his arms, his eyes—the Sharingan with three tomoe—spinning slowly to meet Iida's panicked gaze, reading every twitch in his muscles. "But momentum without a solid base... is just suicide."

Before Iida could retreat or recharge his engines, Madara moved.

It wasn't a magic move, nor fire that burned everything. It was pure, perfect Taijutsu.

Madara grabbed the leg Iida had kicked with. With a fluid rotational movement, utilizing Iida's own weight and forward momentum, he twisted his body and threw him into the air as if tossing a sandbag.

Iida lost his balance, but he fired his engines mid-air to try and return and correct his trajectory. "I won't end here! I can still fight!"

Iida landed and attempted a barrage of rapid, consecutive kicks.

Thwack! Thwack! Thwack!

Madara parried the kicks with his palms and forearms with surgical precision. He was reading the trajectory of every kick before it launched, moving his body the bare minimum needed to dodge or block, conserving his energy while draining his opponent. He looked like a martial arts master toying with a novice student desperately trying to land a hit.

"Your movements are too linear, Iida," Madara said coldly, ducking under a high kick that nearly took his head off, his black hair swaying with the air current. "You are fast, but you are exposed. Speed means nothing if your opponent knows your destination before you arrive."

Madara seized a small opening in the exhausted Iida's defense.

He lunged forward with blinding speed, delivering a focused open-palm strike to Iida's chest, and simultaneously, he kicked with the ball of his foot directly into Iida's calf, precisely where the sensitive engine exhaust pipes were located.

CRACK!

The sound of metal crunching. Iida's right engine stalled immediately, and his balance collapsed entirely. The palm strike to his chest sent him flying like a broken doll, tumbling several meters backward to fall out of bounds, rolling on the ground clutching his leg in pain and frustration.

"Tenya Iida is out of bounds! Winner: Madara Uchiha!"

Madara stood up, adjusting his collar indifferently and brushing imaginary dust off his shoulder, while the audience looked at him with silence and newfound awe. He didn't use fire. He didn't use the "magic" he used on Monoma. He defeated the fastest student in the school with pure martial skill, supernatural stability, and a deep understanding of kinetic dynamics. He proved he wasn't just a "powerhouse quirk user," but a complete warrior.

After Bakugo's violent and difficult victory over Kirishima in their match (which ended with Kirishima collapsing under a relentless barrage of explosions that penetrated his hardening), the shape of the Semi-Finals began to form with terrifying clarity.

Semi-Final Match 1: Shoto Todoroki VS Fumikage Tokoyami.

The plan was clear for Tokoyami. "Dark Shadow" is a terrifying opponent, especially if he could attack before the light grew too bright. Todoroki entered the ring still panting slightly from his epic fight with Midoriya. His clothes were torn, and his body suffered from frostbite and minor burns resulting from the sudden activation of fire after years of suppression.

"Dark Shadow! Speed attack!"

The shadow rushed to end the match, exploiting Todoroki's obvious exhaustion. Todoroki was forced to use his left side (fire) to keep the shadow at bay, realizing ice alone wouldn't suffice. However, due to not using fire for years, his control was poor and energy-consuming. He released random, overly large bursts of flame to keep Tokoyami away. The shadow screamed in pain and retreated, but Tokoyami was smart, maneuvering to make Todoroki drain more precious energy.

The fight lasted longer than anyone expected, turning into a battle of attrition. Todoroki firing, panting, trying to cool down with ice, disrupting his body temperature balance, then firing again. In the end, Todoroki managed to corner Tokoyami with a massive wall of fire, forcing a surrender.

Todoroki won and advanced to the final, but he was completely exhausted. His knees were shaking, his face pale, and sweat poured off him. He had consumed a massive amount of his energy reserves before the final battle.

On the giant screen, the final bracket appeared, and the audience boiled with anticipation.

Finalist 1: Shoto Todoroki.

Semi-Final 2: Madara Uchiha VS Katsuki Bakugo.

In the dark entrance tunnel, minutes before the match, Madara and Bakugo's paths crossed.

Bakugo was seething with excitement and anger mixed with focus. His red eyes sparked, and his hands popped with small, involuntary explosions from the sweat and tension.

"Oi, you weird-eyes," Bakugo growled, standing in front of Madara, blocking the path with his broad chest. "I saw your fights. You're strong, I admit that, and I rarely say that. But don't think your tricks will work on me. I'll blow you up, and I'll blow up that arrogance plastered on your cold face, and I will be Number One! Neither Todoroki nor you will stand in my way!"

Madara stopped and looked at Bakugo with a very calm gaze, completely contrasting with the blonde boy's frenzy.

"You are too loud," Madara said in a quiet voice, and walked past him without looking back, as if passing a rock on the road. "I hope the sound of your explosions is louder than your screaming. Don't disappoint me, Bakugo... let me enjoy myself a little before I extinguish you."

Bakugo froze in place, veins in his neck bulging with rage and insult. "Extinguish me?! I'LL KILL YOU!!"

The two entered the arena under the roar of a crowd that couldn't believe what they were seeing. Madara, the calm "King" who hadn't been scratched yet. And Bakugo, the raging "Beast" who crushed everything.

Madara stood in his usual spot, and slowly raised his hand to signal Bakugo with a simple, provocative finger gesture: "Come."

Bakugo smiled a terrifying grin full of teeth.

"DIEEE!!!!"
