Rowan said nothing more but Nora tugged his hand again and he followed her.
Meanwhile, Ray and Mira fell into step behind them as they made their way back through the dark streets toward the inn.
Eve was still awake when they returned.
She was sitting up slightly against the pillows with a half-eaten piece of bread in her hand, and she looked toward the door the moment it opened
But to her surprise, she noticed Nora coming through first.
Then Rowan stepped into the room behind her.
Seeing this, Eve went completely still.
The bread she was holding fell from her fingers and Her amber eyes moved over her son's face slowly,
"Rowan." Her voice came out barely above a whisper.
Rowan crossed the room in a few strides and dropped to his knees beside the bed.
He didn't say anything.
He simply reached out and wrapped both arms around his mother's thin frame, carefully, as though he was afraid of breaking her, and then he pressed his forehead against her shoulder.
