Chapter 42: The Architect of the New Age

The reconstruction of the Lower Sector of New Seattle began not with a grand speech or a military parade, but with a miracle of physics. Under Carson's direct mental command, the Sol-Invictus descended to a dangerously low orbit, its massive "Trans-Matter" beams working in reverse. Usually, these beams were used to deconstruct cities; now, they were being used to heal them. Massive structural beams of "Self-Healing Smart-Steel" were lowered into the slums, reinforcing the crumbling skyscrapers that housed millions of the "Ghost-Washers."

Carson sat in the command throne of the Dreadnought, his nervous system linked to the ship's Think-Tank through a neural bridge fueled by his 31st Strand. He was no longer just a warrior; he was an architect. He was rewriting the city's power grid, physically ripping out the Hegemony's "Tribute-Vines"—which drained the people's Qi to power the Upper Sector—and replacing them with his own Synthesis-Cores.

"The people are calling it the 'Green Dawn,' Sir," Aura said, displaying a live feed of the streets below on the throne's primary HUD. People were emerging from their hovels, weeping as they touched the silver roots that were now purifying their air and providing free, high-density energy. The pervasive scent of grease and rot was being replaced by the smell of cedar and rain.

"Hope is a dangerous currency, Aura," Carson muttered, his eyes scanning the data-streams of the surrounding sectors. "If I can't protect this new world from the inevitable retaliation, I've just given them a reason to hate me when the lights go out again."

Suddenly, a red alert flashed across the holographic tactical map. A small, high-speed courier ship was jumping out of warp at the edge of the sector, carrying the Imperial Golden Seal.

"Incoming transmission from the Emperor's Second Son, Prince Valen," Aura warned. "He is known as the 'Diplomat of Blood.' He doesn't fight with blades, Sir. He fights with contracts. Be advised: his ship is unarmed, but his presence is a Level 14 Peak of the 'Stilled-Mind' path."

Carson leaned back in the throne, the cold steel of the Star-Shedder resting against his leg. He knew this move. The Hegemony had two hands—one that crushed (Kaelen), and one that bribed (Valen). The Emperor was shifting his strategy from annihilation to assimilation.
