Chapter 3 - Chapter 2: Preparations

There was an easy and time-tested way to kill the baron.

He would always take a walk, alone late at night and that made the perfect time to strike.

All you had to do was find the correct timing.

But, I had other plans.

In every stage of the game I coded, there were hidden scenarios for hidden rewards. And there was one for the tutorial too.

The hidden scenario for this stage was killing the Baron while people were watching, the more people who witnessed his death, the better.

After I located the Baron's manor, it was already late into the night, and I didn't have anywhere to sleep.

My situation would be like this, until I finished the tutorial and got more gold coins, so I just found an alley near the manor and slept.

I had some gold coins that I got from just starting the game, but those weren't going to be used for shelter. They weren't even going to be used on food or water.

I could get water from fountains on the side of buildings, and I can last a few weeks without food. Knowing this, the plan was to spend the 100 silver coins I have on materials to kill the Baron.

When I looked at the manor the next day, I got to enjoy the beauty of my creation. It was around the size of a mansion, made of stone, and had two towers. The top of the lower half was pyramids and the top of the towers was cones. There were a lot of windows and a few doors leading into the mansion. Inside the windows, you can see maids and butlers cleaning for a party that was going to be hosted tonight.

It was going to be a masquerade ball, which is a pretty common tradition among the royals during this time.

I originally coded the party to be tonight, for anyone willing to try the hidden scenario, but in the entirety of the game's lifetime, only a few people killed the Baron this way, most of them getting caught.

I knew all the ins and outs of this manor, and this city. After all, coding this game was my life's work.

This knowledge was going to help me immensely with my plan.

After enjoying the manor, I went to find everything I needed to assassinate the Baron.

The first thing I did was go to some shop and buy some pliers and a knife.

It wasn't that hard to find what I wanted as those items were pretty common. But those items cost all 100 of my silver coins, which meant my plan needed to go well.

Now that I got everything I needed, the second part of the plan was going to be much more difficult.

I waited until it was just two hours before the ball began.

In the front yard of the manor, many royals were arriving. Beside them were their servants.

The servants were free to roam around the city when their masters were at the party.

Everyone, including the servants, were wearing masks.

I was right outside the manor, hiding in one of the alleys. After tracking the royals for a bit, I found my target. The servant I needed was the one of Countess Maria.

Since Countess Maria was going to be the target for the next stage, attacking her servant was going to be best.

Another reason I targeted her servant was because it's always going to be male.

And I happen to be a male.

One hour before the ball Countess Maria's servant left the property of the manor. I started following him around and he ended up at a tavern.

He was eating food and I waited for him to finish.

By the time he finished his food, the ball already started and time was ticking.

He started walking through the city, exploring the place. I decided I had a perfect opportunity.

I pretended to accidentally bump into him while walking.

"Oh I'm sorry," I bowed to him and said.

"It's okay." The servant replied, "Actually can I ask you a favor?"

"Go on."

"Do you know any bookstores near here, I'm trying to find a book for my daughter?"

"Well I know one that has several books, you're going to have to keep walking forward, take two rights then a left." I pointed at the directions. "It's not going to look like where a bookstore would be, but you just have to keep walking forward after the left. You may have to go through what seems like a forest to get there."

"Thank you so much for your help," the servant bowed at me.

Of course, the directions I gave him weren't to a bookstore.
