I couldn't take another second of it, lying there in that stupid hospital bed with my leg screaming like it wanted to fall off and Mom hovering over me like some kind of broken record going "Danny honey please just stay put, the doctor said one wrong move and you're done walking forever you hear me you're done" and I swear she said it five times in a row while I stared at the ceiling counting the cracks because if I looked at her I was gonna lose it completely.
Sky was out there somewhere with that psycho Dollmaker probably thinking I'd given up on him already and here I was doing exactly that by not moving so yeah I swung my legs over the edge even though the pain hit me so hard my vision went spotty and I had to grab the rail just to keep from face-planting right there on the linoleum.
