I swear to God those next few days felt like Mom had moved into my apartment without asking and turned the whole place into her personal guilt-trip headquarters. She started the morning after the cancer bomb with coffee already made and my suitcase half-packed on the couch, talking a mile a minute while I stood there in my boxers rubbing sleep out of my eyes. "Daniel, just come stay at the penthouse. It's not forever, it's until I kick it or you fix things with Sky, whichever comes first. I'm dying, remember? You're really gonna make your dying mother beg?" I snorted and grabbed the mug from her. "You're laying it on thick already and it's not even eight a.m. I said I'd think about it, not that I'd let you kidnap me." She just smiled that evil little smile and kept folding my shirts like I hadn't said a word.
