My friend invited me to accompany him on a mission to appease a girl whose life he messed up six years ago. He had not seen or heard from her since he pushed her out of his apartment into the rain at 2:30 am on a Wednesday in the month of August.
Reluctantly, I agreed. We barely talked as we drove for about six hours on the journey to her abode. While in transit, I wondered why he acted the day he did and I tried to understand why he chose me for the mission. Occasionally, he sighed without saying a word. Not even the soothing sounds from the car stereo could calm him down.
Finally, we got to her apartment. Fortunately, we met her. Strangely, she was not surprised to see us. In fact, she prepared his favourite meal and asked us to eat before stating why we came. I couldn't conceal the anxiety that was choking me up when my friend washed his hand and started eating. I declined the offer.
When he was done eating, he took the plates to the kitchen and tidied them up. During the time of his absence, she asked me why I accompanied him and told me to leave. Even though her voice was calm, I knew that it was an order.
My friend returned from the Kitchen, held her hand and led her into the bedroom. She followed him without any form of resistance. Just before they entered the room, she stopped, looked at me sternly then closed her eyes.
