Chapter 122 - ch 122 Approaching

RUMBLE!

ROARS!

Lightning tore through the darkest clouds, illuminating the night for a brief moment, flashing the silhouettes of tens of millions of demon beasts rushing in one direction.

Deafening thunder shook the air, as if the roars of the beasts weren't loud enough to do so.

Xue Hui's pupils dilated, a killing intent flashing in his eyes. Up in the skies was the gigantic Silao Grande, its sheer size making it look as though it was advancing incredibly slowly. But in reality, the enormous beast was moving fast enough to catch up with the demon beast horde below.

Xue Hui let out a huff as his spiritual energy burst forth. With the halberd in his hand, he flew higher into the air at blinding speed, leaving a streak of light in his wake as he reached the skies above the Silao Grande.

The cries of the beasts grew louder as they noticed Xue Hui hovering above them. Xue Hui ignored the thunderous roars, his attention zeroing in on the Silao Grande, more specifically, on a spot behind its nape.

Gritting his teeth, Xue Hui channeled an enormous amount of soul force, causing his body and the halberd he was holding to emit an intense glow. Crackling sounds could be heard as overwhelming power condensed around him.

With a fierce expression, Xue Hui pulled his arm back, firmly gripping the shaft of his halberd as its tip pointed straight toward the enormous beast.

"AHH!"

"WOOSH!"

Yelling at the top of his lungs, Xue Hui thrust his halberd forward, causing the air around it to contract before exploding outward. A beam of light as thick as a bucket shot from the tip of the halberd, streaking through the air at lightning speed.

PIERCE!

Laced with the power of the Origin of Piercing, the beam of light tore through the air, headed straight toward the back of the Silao Grande. It pierced through its tough hide like a needle sinking into skin.

CRASH!

RUMBLE!

The Silao Grande let out a deafening howl as its enormous body plummeted to the ground, having lost its ability to glide through the air.

The impact caused the entire area to tremble violently, destructive winds ensuing, uprooting trees and tearing through the surrounding landscape. Massive cracks snaked across the earth as small mountains and towering cliffs nearby collapsed from the sheer force.

Xue Hui scoffed as he watched the Silao Grande's enormous body awkwardly crash into the ground.

"Looking down on me? You ain't enough," Xue Hui scoffed. The Silao Grande had sensed his presence miles away before he even entered its sight, yet it had deliberately ignored his existence, seemingly believing that he posed no threat to it.

A mistake that cost the giant beast its ability to move through the air. What Xue Hui had done a moment ago was target the muscle responsible for its flight. Using an acupuncture technique, Xue Hui numbed the said muscle, rendering it unable to channel any spiritual energy.

The entire St. Ancestral Mountain shook as the Silao Grande struggled to its feet. It let out a furious roar as it gazed at Xue Hui murderously.

Its fury frightened the attacking demon beasts, prompting them to quicken their pace, heading straight toward the city wall.

Xue Hui's gaze shifted toward the direction of Glory City. A solemn light flashed through his eyes. The survival of Glory City was at stake in this war.

Glory City, City Wall.

Atop the wall stood the demon spiritualist experts of Glory City, their resolve remaining firm, with brave expressions etched across everyone's faces.

On one part of the wall stood Xiao Ning'er, Chen Linlin, Ye Ziyun, Nie Li, and their friends, all wearing varied expressions.

"D-do you think Master is going to be okay? H-he's going up against the boss of the demon beast horde alone. I-I'm kind of worried about Master's safety."

Yue Ling's question broke the intense silence in the group. They all turned to look at her, making the shy girl sputter in embarrassment from the sudden attention.

They then shifted their gazes toward the direction where they believed Xue Hui was fighting against the Silao Grande.

"He'll be fine. Xue Hui is kind of a freak of nature. I'm pretty sure by now, he's making that Silao Grande regret ever showing its face in our Glory City," Jing Ya said in her usual monotone voice.

Her words drew chuckles from their group. They could easily imagine Xue Hui making the Silao Grande cry, just like he had done to Shen Han.

"Yeah! Boss has got this in the bag. What we should be more concerned about is disappointing him. Just imagine when he returns carrying the dead body of that enormous beast, only to see Glory City flattened by the attack. Boy! That would be embarrassing." Mei Lin interjected, placing her arm across her chest and looking visibly worried at the thought of them failing.

Xiao Ning'er placed a hand over her mouth to stifle a giggle, finding Mei Lin's reasoning a little funny.

"Mei Lin, I don't think Xue Hui would be that disappointed in us if we ever failed to protect Glory City. I think he would be relieved as long as we're all safe. He'd be satisfied with that," she reassured, making Chen Linlin nod in agreement.

Their talk drew the attention of Nie Li's group, prompting them to join in.

"You guys really think that Xue Hui dude can handle that giant beast by himself? They say it's as big as a mountain. I don't think one person is enough to fight it."

Lu Piao interjected, looking absolutely terrified as he cowered behind Xiao Xue's back.

Xiao Xue's eyebrow twitched in irritation as she drove her shoulder into his face, making his head snap back.

"Lu Piao, get a grip on yourself. Stop acting like a coward. If you're so afraid, why didn't you join the evacuation instead of staying here, shaking in your pants? You're just embarrassing yourself," she reprimanded, making Lu Piao's face turn red.

"Xiao Xue, I'm not afraid. I'm just curious and asking questions. Heck, I'm even irritated that Xue Hui dude didn't bring us along to fight that giant beast. If we were there, I'm sure that giant beast would have long been turned into giant stew. Right, Nie Li?" Lu Piao protested, his words muffled as he pinched his nose, trying to lessen the pain.

Nie Li, on the other hand, simply shrugged his shoulders, looking uninterested.

"I'm not. That Silao Grande is an empire-destroying demon beast. Even ten Legend rank experts facing it together would have a hard time injuring it. With my current strength, I'd just be a burden and wouldn't be able to do anything against it."

Nie Li's words brought home the seriousness of the matter, their hearts pounding in their chests as they were reminded of how dire their situation was.

That's when Chen Linlin jolted in surprise. Everyone noticed this and looked at her in confusion.

Chen Linlin ignored their questioning looks as she closed her eyes, looking very focused.

"Soul communication technique," Nie Li muttered in recognition, making Xiao Ning'er and the others realize that she was talking with someone.

Then her eyes snapped open, glistening with surprise. Her face shifted through different emotions before finally settling into a look of determination.

Chen Linlin then gathered her soul force, using it to amplify her voice so everyone could hear her.

"LISTEN UP! Hui-Hui has made contact with the Silao Grande and successfully held the beast back, stopping it from advancing further. He's currently fighting it as we speak. Get ready! The demon beast horde is closing in on us!"

Her words were like a bell ringing in everyone's ears. One by one, the demon spiritualists took out their weapons and gathered their soul force, causing the air around the top of the city wall to tremble as enormous power condensed around them.

Noticeably, the newly birthed Legend rank experts all possessed Legend rank weapons, evident from the formidable aura coming from them.

What many didn't know was that, over the course of months, Xue Hui had been using the Dao Book of Forges and Manifestation to create Legend rank weapons, which he had given to everyone after the Shen Han incident.

Not only that, Xue Hui had also gifted them a demon spirits with dragon bloodlines, strengthening their combat prowess by leaps and bounds.

Unfortunately, only a few, such as Nie Li, his friends, and the Legend rank experts, were able to receive demon spirits with God-level growth rates and dragon bloodlines due to the limited time and number of demon spirit crystals they had. The rest had to settle for demon spirits with extraordinary or even normal growth rates, albeit with dragon bloodlines.

In the distance, the towering beam of light atop the tallest city wall let out a soft hum as inscription runes floated around it. This was a sign that the Essence Blood Tempering Array was ready to absorb and refine essence blood.

"Be careful out there, guys. No matter what happens, make sure to keep yourselves alive," Chen Linlin said in a concerned voice before leaping toward where her grandfather was. She would be his shield during the attack.

On the ground stood the brave fighters, their expressions grim. They all stood in formation as they waited behind the city wall for the demon beasts to force their way in. Their task was simple: to kill any beasts that managed to breach the city wall.

One of them was the young fighter from the Divine Family. He, among the other fighters, had decided to stay behind to defend the city. It was a brave decision he had made on his own. But even so, his body wouldn't stop shaking from fear. This was his first time experiencing a demon beast horde, very different from his usual job of guarding the north gate. If he were to be honest with himself, he was extremely terrified, as was evident from his trembling hands.

"You're afraid?" Old Man Kuon, who was standing beside him, asked.

The young fighter nodded, not even trying to hide how scared he was.

"It's fine. Everything will be fine once the battle begins!" Old Man Kuon laughed heartily. His voice was loud, attracting the eyes of everyone. "White blade enters, red blade comes out. At that time, there'll be nothing to be afraid of!"

The young fighter didn't fully understand what Old Man Kuon meant by his words, but somehow, he felt that the meaning behind those words would become clear to him soon enough.
