The message was sent, Lin watched the screen for a heartbeat, then set her phone aside. No edits, no elaboration.
Yeh saw it and froze. She read it again and again, her heart was racing, unsure how to reply. She had imagined this moment, yet never expected it so plainly spoken. She typed, deleted, hesitated.
Finally, a single word:
Yes.
Lin saw it, and asked nothing more. She did not need to. She was coming to Yeh.
A few days later, Lin landed in Bangkok. Warmth wrapped around her as she stepped out into the evening air. She took a taxi, watching the city unfold. She had not imagined returning so soon, or in this way.
Arriving at Yeh's apartment, she knocked. The door opened, and their eyes met.
Silence stretched, long and bright.
Lin set her suitcase down. "I'm here."
"Welcome home," Yeh said softly.
Everything was exactly as before. Yeh closed the door and handed her a glass of water, naturally, as if she had done so a thousand times.
"Was your journey smooth?"
"Yes."
Quiet fell between them.
"How long will you stay?" Yeh asked directly.
Lin held her gaze. "Six months."
Yeh's breath caught faintly. "Really? How about your work?"
"I have arranged."
A pause.
"How is your story?" Lin asked.
Yeh looked surprised. "Still writing the ending." She spoke gently. "Perhaps… a happy ending."
Lin smiled faintly. "And what would that be?"
Yeh hesitated. "I am not certain yet."
Lin stepped closer. "I come here not for work, I have come to change my life."
Then, she continued: "To share it with you."
As the words left her mouth, she felt a weight lift from her shoulders. She looked at Yeh and smiled, softly and truely.
Yeh's breath hitched. "Are you here… because of me?"
Lin stepped forward until they stood inches apart. "Yes. Because I want to be with you, truly with you. Not as friends."
She had never said it aloud before.
Yeh stood motionless. "Are you certain?"
"Entirely."
Yeh reached out, her fingers wrapping gently around Lin's wrist, lightly but sure. Lin leaned closer.
"Let me first," Yeh whispered.
She drew near and kissed Lin—softly, tentatively, a question and an answer all at once.
And Yeh knew: this was her first kiss, given to the person she loved.
