Chapter 3 - Chapter 3: Friendship

Within the cluttered basement, a white-haired girl with green eyes was sleeping soundly on a chair while hugging an egg tightly. Even with the constant sound of the machinery and the TV, she didn't show any signs of waking up soon.

However, in truth that didn't last long. Though her experiment had succeeded and she had created life, she hadn't turned off the 'Incubator'. The giant machine consumed way too much electricity, and with all the other machines on top of the Incubator, it was only a matter of time before the lights went out.

ZAP—

As the electricity went out, all the machines turned off immediately and pulled the basement into a deep darkness. The girl, who was sleeping soundly even among all kind of annoying noises, woke up suddenly when the lights went out.

"No I didn't save my progress! Uwaah!"

Waking up scared, the little girl leaned forward and ended up falling from the chair, hitting her face flat against the floor and breaking her glasses in the process.

"AUCH!"

Holding up tears, the little girl held her reddened forehead with one hand while wincing in pain. She wasn't a sporty kid and wasn't used to pain, so she was only barely able to stop herself from crying.

As she stood up, she noticed a strange, blue liquid dripping to the ground. When she looked down, what she was saw immediately froze her expression.

The egg she was holding had cracked at some point, and it had been leaking that liqud for a while now.

"...uh..."

Her eyes slowly reddened as she looked at the broken egg she held in her arms. Her expression still hadn't changed when tears began to stream down her face, slowly, her face turned grief stricken. Crying and sniffling, the little girl hugged the broken egg tighter.

"Friend... I'm sorry."

As she cried, a strange sound caught her attention. Slowly looking away from the egg, she saw the sink she had installed to keep her hands clean between experiments. Strangely, the faucet was was vibrating.

Confused and tearing up, the girl walked slowly towards the sink cautiously, as if expecting a snake to come out of the faucet and bite her.

"What?"

However, what came out of the faucet was not a snake, but simply water, or at least it looked like simple water at first. For some reason, the water didn't go down the drain despite it being unclogged, and it made a small puddle in the sink. And even more strange, there was a small, little glowing sphere in the middle of that puddle.

"What is—Woah!"

As she reached with her hand and touched the sphere, it suddenly began glowing brighter and it flew up. The water concentrated around the sphere and changed shaped, starting as a ball and slowly elongating as nerve-like formations extended from the sphere outwards. The girl stared at the weird happening with awe.

When the water stop changing, it had taken a shape similar to that of the polyp stage of a jellyfish, with the strange addition of a fish-like tail with thin, almost invisible long tendrils and a visible, glowing nervous system. The jellyfish-like little creature flew up and down around the awe-struck girl as if excited.

As the little creature flew closer to her face, one of it's many tiny tentacles extended forward, touching the girl's tears and absorbing them. When she felt the cold yet comfortable touch of that tiny tentacle, the girl had a strange but sudden realization.

"Wait are you...Friend?!"

As if reacting to the name, the little creature flew even closer and snuggled against the little girl cheek, before flying down towards the egg she still held and extending a few tentacles into the cracks, extracting some remaining liquid that had stayed inside.

Overcome by emotion, the little girl smiled brightly as if her previous grief had been a malicious lie, and cupped the flying jellyfish with her hands, as if worried she could crush it. In response, it circled once in place before settling down in her palms, it's body relaxed while it's 'head' was kept raised and looking at her.

Excited, the girl suddenly began spinning while laughing happily, visibly startling the little jellyfish, which barely managed to stay in place by gripping to her hands with it's tentacles.

"You were born successfully! Oh I'm so, so happy!"

Twirling with a beaming smile, she sat back at her chair and kept spinning for a moment before stopping and holding her little Friend up high. The little jellyfish seemed dizzy, but it 'looked' back at the girl.

"I'm Konye! Let's do many fun things together, Friend!"

As if answering to Konye's joy, the little creature began glowing brighter and emitting a humming-like sound. Konye was marveled as she looked at the light spectacle, and became even more amazed when she realized her hands were feeling warmer.

"So pretty!"

While she was amazed by her little creation, she suddenly heard footsteps above her. Realizing something, she panicked a little and stood up, hiding the little jellyfish behind the Incubator, and putting her finger on her lips as if signaling it to stay silent. Friend, apparently understanding, stopped producing the humming-like sound and stopped glowing.

The hurried footsteps soon reached the basement door, which was hurriedly opened. A man descended the stairs with a heavy expression on his face.

"Dad I—"

Before Konye could say anything more, she was hugged tightly. Her father, a strict but equally doting man, was hugging her while on his knees, as if holding back tears.

Konye didn't understand what was happening or why her dad was acting like this, but she could at least understand he was scared. She didn't like seeing her dad like that, so she was quick to hug him back.

"I'm so glad..."

"What are you talking about, dad?"

He hugged her tighter, as if afraid to let go of his daughter. Aware of the isolation habits of his daughter, he soon realized something.

She was not aware of the danger they had been in, of how they could have died today. And if he was grateful it was the case.

"Nothing princes, it's nothing at all"
