Chapter 40 - Chapter 40: Find That Human

Chapter 40: Find That Human

What followed was simple, at least for Ryuji.

All he had to do was lie in the study and wait for Kocho Kanae to feed him.

The others had much more to consider: Rengoku Shinjuro had to arrange the move, and Himejima Gyomei had to think about the security detail.

Kocho Jiro had to consider whether Ryuji was suitable son-in-law material... and so on; everyone had a bright future ahead.

His days of recovery passed with unexpected tranquility. Kocho Kanae would come every day to feed him and give him medicine; she would still blush occasionally, but it had become quite natural.

"He can already exercise after only two days? This... this defies medical logic!"

Kocho Kanae watched Ryuji exercising shirtless in the courtyard, rubbing her eyes in disbelief.

With a slight blush, she looked at the calm Kocho Jiro beside her. "Father, could there be some kind of internal injury or something?"

"Don't worry... I used Red Ginseng. The medicine you fed him was mixed with Red Ginseng water."

Kocho Jiro spoke softly, as if reminiscing. "Besides, I've seen more than one person with even greater resilience than him."

"Huh?"

Kocho Kanae was stunned. Resilience even stronger than Ryuji's? Was that even human?

"Many years ago, in Huaxia, I saw with my own eyes a man who had been hacked by mountain bandits until he had only one breath left. He was on the verge of death."

Kocho Jiro shook his head. "I was young and arrogant back then. At a glance, I concluded he couldn't be saved."

Hearing a story, Shinobu Kocho stopped looking at Ryuji's robust physique and immediately asked with wide eyes, "And then, Dad?"

"And then? Then I got schooled..."

Kocho Jiro's lip twitched. "An old man used just a small piece of Red Ginseng, combined with some techniques I couldn't understand at all, to literally pull that man back from the brink of death!"

He shook his head:

"I wanted to become his disciple, but he made me practice Zhan Zhuang for a month. Then he shook his head, said I had no talent, and sent me away."

Thinking of this, Kocho Jiro still looked somewhat indignant. "To this day, I still don't understand what practicing Zhan Zhuang has to do with studying medicine. It's simply baffling!"

Listening to this story, Ryuji felt a strange sense of familiarity.

It felt as if he had heard a similar plot somewhere before.

But for the life of him, he couldn't recall it.

It wasn't that Ryuji wanted to eavesdrop on gossip, but rather that his senses seemed to have become much more acute.

"System, settle today's practice."

[Ding! practice settlement complete. Session duration: two hours. Training program: Marine Injury Recovery Training (Zephyr's Recruit Manual Standard).]

[Completion: Good.]

[Reward: +5 cultivation points. Due to the host strictly following "Zephyr's Recruit Training Manual" for scientific training, an additional reward is granted: +5 cultivation points.]

Looking at the ten additional cultivation points, Ryuji's lip twitched. As expected, more work meant more gain, and less work meant less!

This System is quite upright!

Forget it. Once his injuries were fully healed, he would definitely train relentlessly until his legs went weak!

He was going to rake in those cultivation points!

For now, the recovery training would at least speed up his healing to some extent.

"Thank you, Kanao."

Ryuji took the towel handed to him by Kocho Kanae and wiped the sweat from his body.

His streamlined physique was like forged steel, without a single ounce of excess fat.

It was, after all, a body that had been praised by Doma.

To be honest, although Doma was evil, his aesthetic taste was impeccable—well, specifically his taste in beautiful women.

As for works of art, like Gyokko's pots, that was a matter of individual taste.

"By the way, System, what does that 'Promotable' status mean?"

Ryuji asked in his mind.

[Rank promotion increases the rate at which you acquire cultivation points.]

?

Wait a second?

"It couldn't be what I'm thinking, could it? Does this thing take a cut?"

Ryuji cursed in his mind through gritted teeth, "You're not taking a commission, are you?"

[Yes.]

Ryuji's fists hardened, as tough as steel!

Damn!

"Phew... fine, take your cut. I want to see the specific commission rates."

[The host does not have the authority to view this. Please quickly promote to Fleet Admiral.]

Seeing this, Ryuji nearly ground his teeth to dust. Fleet Admiral? You've got to be kidding. He was still just a private, not even a Commissioned Officer. Reaching Fleet Admiral would take until he was seventy or eighty!

My god!

"Ryuji-kun, it's time to go. Everything in the house is packed."

Kocho Kanae spoke softly to Ryuji. Beside her, Kocho Jiro was instructing the Kakushi Members to be gentle, while Shinobu Kocho was excitedly haggling with a Shinobi about whether she could skip the blindfold.

"Coming."

Ryuji called back, put on his blindfold, and was carried on a Shinobi's back while holding Kocho Kanae's hand.

While Ryuji was heading toward the headquarters, a Blood Battle for Lower Rank positions was taking place within the Infinity Castle.

"Oh my, why is no one challenging me... This is no fun at all."

Doma sat on a high perch, watching two Lower Ranks fighting for their lives below, and let out a bored yawn.

He looked at the dark figure standing in the distance with arms crossed and asked loudly:

"Hey, Akaza, why are you standing so far away? Aren't we friends? I'm so heartbroken..."

Akaza merely glanced at Doma without a word, looking at the Lower Ranks fighting in the arena with disdain.

Too weak.

"Hey, Akaza..."

Just as Doma was about to say more, Kibutsuji Muzan, sitting in the main seat, said coldly:

"Silence!"

The entire Infinity Castle instantly fell silent.

Beside him sat a Biwa woman with her eyes covered by her hair, gently plucking the strings of a Shamisen.

"Doma, that human you gave blood to has escaped the curse and did not turn into a demon."

Muzan suddenly appeared behind Doma and whispered, "How much blood did you give?"

Doma leaned backward, looking up at Kibutsuji Muzan. "Very little blood, probably about ten milliliters or so..."

Kibutsuji Muzan didn't speak further, but after a moment of silence, he said, "Find that human."

"Is this a mission?"

Doma asked curiously, "Then can I ask for help?"

Muzan looked at Doma, feeling somewhat helpless. Why were his subordinates all like this?

Not to mention those useless Lower Ranks.

Among the Upper Ranks, Kokushibo was a collaborator—powerful and reliable. Akaza was both obedient and useful. Then there was this Doma, who, although infuriating at times...

...was quite strong and could bring in money.

Ah, right, and Gyutaro, whom he had catalyzed with blood, was also quite good!

He just didn't know what was wrong with him, insisting on being friends with Akaza. Sigh, whatever... "I will speak with Akaza and have him cooperate with your actions!"

"As you wish, Lord Muzan!"

Doma gave a smiling bow, then looked at the victorious Lower Rank in the arena, his lips curling upward.

He looks quite good... black long hair with ends tinted in rose red and blue-green, with pairs of yellow squares adorning his cheeks.

A long black coat and white-lined trousers, very fitting as well.

Most importantly, he has a pleasant smile on his face.

He looks just like a girl... "Very well, Enmu. From today on, you are Lower Rank One."

Like an unscrupulous boss, Kibutsuji Muzan appeared before Enmu, injected him with some blood, and carved the characters for 'Lower Rank' into his pupils.

He wanted to carve the number as well but noticed that Enmu seemed unable to withstand it... so he could only carve a simple horizontal line.

"A waste of time..."

Muzan sighed in disgust and then vanished from the Infinity Castle.

Buzz!

The sound of the Shamisen rang out, and all the Upper Ranks vanished instantly, as if they had never appeared in the Infinity Castle at all.

"Ah, so this is the Master's blood! It really is... like a dream..."

Enmu collapsed to the ground, twitching as veins bulged all over his body, yet that sickly smile remained on his face!
