I woke up with a smile on my face. Sunlight spilled through the curtains, illuminating the flowers Carina had placed beside the window bI stretched beneath the warm blankets and stretched my hands and I was met with the empty space beside me. My eyes flew open.
"Where was Hades?" I thought. His side of the bed was cold. He had been gone a while. Disappointment settled in my chest.
I rolled onto back and stared at the ceiling with a sigh. I knew he had responsibilities but I wished he had woken me before leaving. Even if it had only been to kiss me goodbye.
I pressed my fingertips to my lips.Then immediately snatched my hand away as though I had caught myself doing something embarrassing.
"Get a grip, Iris."
I was not going to spend the entire morning thinking about Hades. I had some important things to do. My smile faded.
I had tried to push those questions aside since returning to Iron Claw, but they hadn't disappeared.
