Chapter 4 - The kiss

Me and Athena sit in the field eating lunch.

"This reminds me." Athena smiles. "The other day this creep came and stole one of my hotdogs, can you believe that?"

I take a deep breath. "That sounds interesting."

"Hey Atlas." I turn to look at her, for some reason she is blushing. "We have been engaged for a long time, so I was just wondering." She looks hesitant. "Um, do you wonna kiss?"

What? What! What happened to I'm not going to tell you how I feel cliché? If I deny her, I would ruin our relationship, but if I accept I will wake up tomorrow as a girl. Yeah after weighing my options it is obvious. I shouldn't kiss her.

If only I was faster, because, as I was deep in thought, she had long since closed her eyes, pecking me on the lips.

My eyes widened, that was the first kiss I was awake for, and it was stolen by this flat chested, no good thief.

She smiles, placing her fingers to her lips. "I love you." Those three words break so many boundaries, enough to make my legs act before my brain, carrying me off to the distance.

I arrive before the back of the school panting. That trooper, how dare she tell me that. This must be a trick, yeah a trick, she is trying to distract me from hunting the hero.

I clear my throat, wiping my lips with my sleeve. I can't be dissuaded now, if I do then I lose, and my soul will be destroyed.

I drift through the next classes till I arrive back at the dorm. Athena stands in front of the door crying, she tries to wipe away the tears, but they stream down like rain.

"Athena." I reach out, but she pushes my arm away.

"I showed my heart to you, and you run away. Why, why, tell me why." She opens the door faceplanting on the bed.

I set down my gun, sitting on the table that separates the beds. What does she see in me? I should lie, just to make her happy again.

"I," I add a dramatic pause, "didn't know how to react, because truth is." One more dramatic pause for good measure. Now these three words are tough. "I love you, too." I hope my voice didn't crack with me saying that.

She turns her tear soaked face to me. "Do you mean it?" She sits up wiping away her eyes. "Then kiss me. I won't believe it, until you kiss me." She closes her eyes.

The way she puckers those vulnerable lips, makes my head spin. Not my dreams, I mustn't let my dreams fade, remember the BBB's, remember. Why is it every time I try to think of those big bouncy mountains, I see Athena's face. Is this a spell, did this woman cast a spell on me?

Leaning in we kiss, only for an instant, all I could handle was an instant. If I were to continue it feels like my heart would burst. Falling back onto my bed I stare at the ceiling. I can't sleep, her magic is messing with my mind, I can't close my eyes without seeing her face, or remembering the feeling of her soft lips.

Maybe she cast the spell on herself as well, as she just stares at me. Through the night I don't get a wink of sleep, by morning I was surprised to find out I was still me. Athena coughs standing up and stretching.

"I got such a good sleep." She lies.

"Same." I lie.

We walk to our first class drowsily, and distracted. I spend the whole class daydreaming about that soft kiss. When the next class came around I found a chance to sneak off laying down outside. Is it just me or is the sun warmer today, and the flowers, were they always so beautiful? My mind drifts off as I slip into sleep.
