Chapter 1 - A efficient dog

An Efficient Dog

In a small village surrounded by green fields and narrow muddy roads, there lived a dog named Bruno. Bruno was not very big, nor was he especially fierce. His fur was light brown, his ears always alert, and his eyes sharp with intelligence. What made Bruno special was not his strength, but his efficiency. He did everything with care, planning, and purpose.

Bruno belonged to an old farmer named Raghav. Raghav was poor but honest, and he depended on his small farm for survival. He grew vegetables, kept a few chickens, and stored grains in a tiny shed near his house. Many animals roamed the village at night—foxes, rats, and sometimes thieves. Raghav could not afford fences or guards, but he trusted Bruno completely.

Every morning, Bruno woke up before the sun. He walked around the farm quietly, checking every corner. If he sensed danger, he barked only once or twice—never wasting energy. He knew when to be silent and when to act. Unlike other dogs that barked all night for no reason, Bruno saved his strength for real problems.

One night, a group of rats tried to enter the grain shed. Instead of chasing them wildly, Bruno blocked the exit quietly. He waited patiently and scared them away one by one. By morning, not a single sack of grain was damaged. Raghav noticed this and smiled. "You are smarter than many people," he said, patting Bruno's head.

Bruno was also efficient with food. He never overate or fought with other dogs. If he was given food, he ate only what he needed and saved the rest. Sometimes he even carried extra pieces to the puppies near the well. The villagers began to notice his behavior. Children admired him, and elders spoke of him with respect.

One day, a thief entered the village late at night. He had observed Raghav's house and thought it was an easy target. When he stepped into the farm, Bruno noticed him immediately. Instead of barking loudly and alerting the thief, Bruno quietly followed him. As soon as the thief tried to break the shed lock, Bruno leaped forward and grabbed his leg. Startled and scared, the thief fell and screamed. Bruno barked loudly now, waking the entire village.

The villagers ran out with sticks and lamps and caught the thief. Everyone praised Bruno for his cleverness. "Any dog can bark," one villager said, "but this dog thinks."

After that night, Bruno became famous in the village. People brought him food and treats, but Bruno remained the same—calm, alert, and efficient. He never became proud. He continued guarding the farm, helping the weak, and living a simple life.

When Bruno grew old, his steps became slow, but his mind remained sharp. He trained a younger dog by example, teaching him not by noise but by action. Raghav took care of Bruno till his last days, grateful for the loyal and efficient friend who had protected his life and livelihood.

The villagers learned an important lesson from Bruno: true efficiency is not about doing more, but about doing what is needed at the right time, in the right way. Just like Bruno, an efficient life is a quiet one—full of purpose, wisdom, and responsibility.
