Iris had expected the change to be obvious.
It wasn't.
By the time she finished the installation, the Blackstone Wall looked almost exactly the way it had before.
That was the strange part.
There were no metal structures sticking out from the top of the wall. No strange machines humming along its surface. No obvious weapons mounted between the dark stones.
The sentries had simply become part of it.
Iris stood a short distance from the wall and stared.
If she had not known where to look, she probably would not have noticed anything at all.
The Blackstone Wall remained the same imposing structure it had always been, dark and solid, stretching around Velaris in a massive circle. Its surface was uneven in places, giving it the appearance of naturally formed stone rather than something constructed by a System.
But now, hidden among those stones, were hundreds of sentries.
Eyes in the wall.
That was what they felt like.
