Chapter 12 - SURVIVAL 4: ORDINAL NUMBER

"You are a mysterious girl who torments my confused feelings"

"What is this thing?" her classmate asked.

"A castle, perhaps," she replied as she gazed up at the castle.

He turned to her and laughed. "Why are you undisturbed to see such a thing?" he sounded confused with a soft laugh.

"We should get used to seeing strange things because we're here on a strange planet," then she smiled subtly.

She just noticed that his vibe seems different now. Yesterday he was preoccupied, but now he's talking to her.

"Why are you talking to me?" She questioned him suddenly as he raised his left hand and protected his eye from the sunlight.

He turned to her. "Is there something wrong with that?" He also has a sense of humor. But she just narrowed her eyes at him. "Okay. The truth is, I don't know either. But when we fought the monster last night, my memories were in turmoil. I felt a sudden feeling that urged me to do something important."

"Important? What is it?"

He looked away. "I still don't know, but the one solution to know that important thing is to know you more."

She raised her eyebrow. "You don't know me? But do you remember that I am your classmate?"

He nodded his head in agreement. "I know it's weird. Everyone's weird. This memory of ours is confusing us from illusion to reality. Just after the monster died, it's like someone whispered to me to be close to you. And I guess, nothing's wrong with that since we were in the same class wearing the same uniforms of our school." He remarked with a reassuring smile.

She didn't know what she should feel. Happy? Annoyed? Frustrated? But she was sure that she was puzzled with him.

"Why do I remember you?" she was confused.

"You know me?"

"Yeah, but all I know is that you're a classmate."

He sighed. "Too bad. I thought I'd know my name," she sighed at what he said. "By the way, do you know what the name of our school is? 'Cause I don't, how stupid of me."

She peered at her necktie and his polo pocket. It has a circle and the logo of a school, but it does not have the name of the school. Strange and impossible without a school name, but only a logo.

"I don't know either," she answered.

"Really? So, it's not just me. But what I remember about the name of our school is that it starts with the letter V. I'm a hundred percent sure of it, and it's a public school."

He even remembers that detail.

"You know…" he stared at her. "You're a mysterious one."

"H-Huh? Me, mysterious?" She was a little confused and even pointed to herself.

"The moment when I woke up inside the glass capsule and found myself floating in the middle of nothing, you just glared at me and calmly scanned the galaxy while everyone panicked and shouted for help. You also defeated the monster using your head. You analyzed the situation and observed the weird behavior of the monster. And now, you're expressionless upon seeing this castle thing in front of us. You weren't even shocked."

He laughed again after finishing his statement.

What's so funny about that? Was she that strange to him?

She's annoyed because she wants to know more about who she was, but she doesn't know how to do it herself.

"And lastly..." He has another message. He stared at her again, so she also stared into his brown eyes. She just noticed that was his eye color. "Everywhere I go, I feel incomplete. I feel there's something that I missed. I feel that I can't live when I lose that significant thing. And when I started talking to you, I felt that you would be the key to finding that thing." R-Really? Was that how he thinks of her? "You are a mysterious girl who torments my confused feelings." His gaze prevented her eyes from averting from him as he continued his phrase with a question. "Just who are you?"

They were both stunned as they stared at each other. As much as she wants to answer his question, she doesn't know either.

The coolness of the breeze was whispering in her ear. Her long hair caresses her cheeks, her dark blue skirt sways, and her dark blue necktie dances through the wind. His brown eyes, pointed nose, thin lips, messy hair, and medium-tone skin. As she looked at his physical attributes, it made her think that he had foreign blood. She was just about to ask him about it, but then they both had no definite memory at all.

"Oh, wait. Why don't we give each other our nicknames in the meantime?"

He's right, it's hard when someone doesn't have a name.

"Hmm…" She stopped for a moment. "You know you're also mysterious to me. It's like there's something about you that I want to know. And if you're weirded out by me, I'm weirded out by you too."

"Hahaha! I think we have mutual feelings."

"Mutual feelings?" She turned her eyes away because of what he said.

He nodded and clasped his hands as if to say he was innocent. "No, not that. I mean, we're both confused with each other."

She calmed down because of that. She thought that maybe he thought of her as someone who was snobbish, just like how she perceived him. "I'll think about what to call you," she said.

"All right, I'll wait for that," he replied with a smirk.

It was fun to talk with him. He has a sense of humor and seems sociable, different from her impression before.
