Chapter 25 - Horikita Suzune Wants to Become Leader

Ryunosuke accepted the "gift" of meat from Megumi without hesitation. In his heart, he noted this debt of gratitude and promised to repay it someday.

Seeing how heartily Ryunosuke ate, Megumi asked in a slightly worried tone, "Akasaka-kun, are you having money difficulties?"

As soon as that sentence came out, Megumi immediately regretted it. She just remembered that Ryunosuke had said their class points this month were zero, so it was natural if he didn't have money.

Seeing Megumi's awkward expression, Ryunosuke waved his hand as a signal that he didn't mind, making the girl breathe a sigh of relief.

Megumi felt a bit sorry seeing her benchmate enjoying that very simple free food set so heartily. She then offered, "If Akasaka-kun needs points, I can lend you mine. You can return them next month."

Ryunosuke shook his head and waved his hand rejecting that offer. In his heart, he felt amazed.

(Truly a perfect woman! No wonder in my previous world, many people called her "Saint Megumi". She's very kind, finds it hard to refuse other people's requests, beautiful, and her body proportions are ideally above average.)

(A girl this good, with an extraordinary personality, if not for her thin presence, she would surely already be fought over by many men.)

However, strangely Megumi's almost undetectable presence seemed not to apply to Ryunosuke.

Was it because he was a transmigrator?

On the other side, Megumi was also thinking the same thing. The man before her was the first person who had never ignored her. Since childhood, even her parents and older brother often forgot about her. Once when shopping, they just left her at the supermarket. They only realized at dinner because the number of utensils was one short.

Megumi was used to being ignored. Since elementary school she had no friends. She once disappeared for a day and night without anyone noticing, until finally she came home by herself. Her parents had even once tied a rope from their waists to Megumi's hand when going out so she wouldn't get lost again—an incident that instead got them arrested by police for being mistaken as kidnappers.

Only Megumi was forgotten. That's why she greatly appreciated Ryunosuke, the only person who noticed her presence from the start.

In Megumi's somewhat pessimistic thinking, she felt perhaps Ryunosuke was the only person who could become her life partner later. Because who else could see her?

After finishing lunch, the two walked together back to class. Ryunosuke didn't expect to become close friends with Megumi this quickly. His original intention was indeed to approach this girl because her unique ability was very suitable for spying on situations.

As soon as they entered class, they were treated to the sight of Suzune and Yousuke competing for the leader position. More precisely, Yousuke was being yielding, while Suzune unilaterally wanted to seize the Class D leader position.

Suzune hit the table, tossed her long black hair, and stared at everyone with full confidence. "I think Class D can't continue like this. We need a leader, and I feel I'm the most suitable person."

Koenji who was combing his hair looked at Suzune while leaning his feet on the table. "An interesting suggestion, Lady. I don't mind you becoming leader, after all to me there's no difference because I won't listen to you."

Suzune who felt offended was just about to retort, but was stopped by Ayanokouji. "Horikita, just let it go. That person has no intention of competing, he's not a threat to you. Don't waste time on him."

Suzune then turned to look at Yousuke, the person who technically had the most support in class.

Yousuke smiled bitterly. "I have no ambition to become leader. I just want us all to get along and rise to Class A together. So, I abstain."

Yousuke's resignation triggered protests, especially from Kei who publicly was already Yousuke's girlfriend. Kei stood up and berated Suzune without mincing words.

"Horikita, what qualifies you to be leader? I admit your grades are slightly better than mine, but so what? With your antisocial personality, you want to lead us to Class A? Don't joke around."

Suzune frowned. "I need to correct you, Karuizawa-san. Your grades are ranked 32nd, while my grades are ranked first. The gap in our abilities isn't 'slight,' but very far."

Kei's face turned bright red with anger. "That's why you don't have friends! You stiff woman!"

"What business is it of yours if I don't have friends? Besides, I don't need friends." Suzune replied coldly.

Kei was left speechless from annoyance. Yousuke immediately tried to mediate so the debate wouldn't heat up.

Finally, with Yousuke's withdrawal and no other candidates, Suzune successfully became Class D's leader officially. Although many were dissatisfied and most likely wouldn't follow her orders.

Ayanokouji let out a long sigh inwardly.

(So troublesome... I just want to live peacefully, but Chabashira-sensei instead threatens me with student expulsion if I don't help.)

On the other side, Ryunosuke and Megumi were already sitting calmly in their respective seats, completely unconcerned with that leadership drama.

For Ryunosuke, as long as it didn't make money, it wasn't his business.
