The library was a silent tomb, populated by rows of towering mahogany giants that reached for the ceiling. Leon's flashlight swept over the spines of thousands of volumes, the dust dancing in the beam like tiny, frantic ghosts.

Irons was a narcissist, a man who lived to be surrounded by things he considered "refined." Leon moved past the common stacks and headed for the partitioned wing—the Gothic heart of the library. If the red tablet existed, it would be here, nestled among the Chief's most prized obsessions.

He pushed a rolling ladder into place and began a surgical search of the top shelves. His fingers brushed against a row of heavy, hardcover art albums. One of them—a grotesque volume on medieval torture—sat a fraction of an inch deeper than the others.

Leon shoved it back.

Click.

The shelf groaned, and a hidden wooden panel retracted with a dull thud, revealing a crawlspace. Leon scrambled inside, finding a small, airless storage room dominated by a single oil painting: a demon sitting on a throne of human skulls.

Directly beneath the demon's feet, the Red Relief Tablet was embedded in the stone. Leon pried it loose, the weight of the three "keys" finally complete in his hands.

He didn't waste a second. He bolted back toward the East Wing, retracing the path Noah had radioed earlier. When he pushed through the double doors of the Antique Room, the sight made him skid to a stop.

The mahogany desk had been flipped, reinforced by heavy chairs to create a small, circular bunker. Noah sat with his back to the door, his rebar resting across his knees, his eyes snapping open with a lethal alertness that only faded when he recognized Leon's silhouette.

Noah raised a finger to his lips.

Leon crept closer. Inside the "fortress," Claire was curled on the carpet, her arms wrapped tightly around Sherry. The girl was asleep, her breathing even, though her small face was still stained with the salt of her tears.

The three of them sat in the quiet for a few minutes—a rare, fragile pocket of peace in a world that had gone to hell.

"You should sleep for a minute," Noah whispered, his voice a low vibration. "We don't know what the next floor looks like."

"Yeah," Leon breathed, leaning back against the desk. Fatigue hit him like a physical blow, and he let the darkness take him.

A muffled sob from Sherry woke them an hour later. The girl was squirming in her sleep, the nightmare finally catching up to her. Claire woke instantly, stroking Sherry's hair until the girl's blue eyes cleared.

"Big sister Claire..." Sherry whispered.

"I'm here, honey. We're all here."

Leon and Noah stood up, stretching out the kinks in their backs.

"You get them?" Claire asked.

Leon pulled the three tablets from his pack—blue, yellow, and red. "Let's go. Chief's Office. Now."

They formed up. Leon on point with the handgun, Claire and Sherry in the middle, and Noah bringing up the rear with the rebar. It was a tight, disciplined formation that kept the girl shielded on all sides.

They encountered a stray zombie at a hallway bend—a former officer with half his face missing. Leon dropped it with a single, clean shot to the forehead before Sherry could even scream. Two more lunged from an open doorway, but Noah moved like a blur, the rebar whistling as it crushed their skulls before they could even reach the middle of the pack.

Sherry watched them—the way Leon changed magazines without looking, the way Claire's eyes stayed sharp, the way Noah's back never wavered. She found a strange, new courage in their shadow. If these three were with her, maybe the monsters weren't so big after all.

They reached the Chief's desk. Leon stepped up to the wall mechanism, pressing the blue and red tablets into their slots. He hesitated when he picked up the yellow one.

Claire saw the flicker in his eyes. She offered a tired, mischievous smirk. "What's the matter, Leon? Can't bear to let it go? Who gave you the shiny one?"

Leon's face went a dusty red. "Ada... Ada Wong. She's FBI."

"Ada Wong?" Claire arched an eyebrow. "Who's that?"

Noah looked over his shoulder. "Is she pretty? Why'd she give a rookie something this important?"

"She... she's very pretty," Leon stammered, his brain momentarily short-circuiting. "She's capable. She's helping the investigation."

THUMP.

The sound of a heavy, metal-shod boot hitting the floorboards echoed from the far end of the hall.

THUMP. THUMP.

The war drum of the god of death. The Tyrant was back.

"Move!" Noah hissed.

Leon slammed the yellow tablet into the final slot.

Click—Rumble.

The wall ground open, revealing a lit passage. They swarmed inside, Noah pulling a heavy lever on the interior wall as they crossed the threshold.

BOOM.

The stone wall sealed shut just as the Tyrant's shadow reached the door. They stood in the dark, holding their breath, listening to the muffled thud-thud of the giant pausing on the other side.

A few heartbeats passed. The footsteps began again, fading as the monster resumed its mindless patrol.

"Who was that?" Sherry whispered, her voice trembling.

Leon gave her a small, forced smile. "Just a big dummy. We're winning at hide-and-seek, Sherry. Don't worry about him."

They looked around. They weren't in a sewer—not yet. They were in a corridor of opulence that put the rest of the station to shame. Scarlet wool carpets, antique armors, and dozens of stuffed animal specimens staring with black glass eyes. This was Irons' true sanctuary.

At the end of the hall sat a sleek, modern metal elevator.

The doors slid open silently. As they stepped inside, a pungent, clinical stench hit them—the smell of formalin and high-grade chemical preservatives.

The elevator began its long, smooth descent into the heart of the Hive.
